View Full Version : [NSFW] thread warnings
Tantin Tolledo 08-27-2008, 12:01 PM I would like to suggest that posters of images that might not be safe for the office environment to post with [NSFW] on the title.
[NSFW] is a common term used now to describe images / posts that are:
Not
Safe
For
Work
It would save members the embarassment of opening up a link then a colleague or boss, or young kids would see it accidentally.
Of course, we cant expect Mr. Porn Poster to do this for us.
Whatcha think?
Tantin Tolledo 11-20-2008, 04:23 PM i got owned for clicking on a thread here. It was kinda unpleasant to bear. Cant blame anybody since i clicked it.
But it would be nice if folks posting pics with slight fleshy exposure to put these letters [NSFW] in the thread title. or at least in the first line of the topic content. Sort of fair warning especially for folksl like me who access the net in the office.
randytamayo 11-20-2008, 04:35 PM ^ I agree. Current threads in this category would be the "L Word" and "Curvilinear" something. :D
Winston Baltasar 11-20-2008, 08:19 PM May I suggest, for the sake of clarity, the thread starter write "For Adults Only" or "Warning - Nudity" because not everyone will remember what "NSFW" means.
Derick_Gamboa 11-20-2008, 08:35 PM May I suggest, for the sake of clarity, the thread starter write "For Adults Only" or "Warning - Nudity" because not everyone will remember what "NSFW" means.
In the same token with the intent of the OP, this is very clear.
Al Gonzales 11-20-2008, 09:44 PM May I suggest, for the sake of clarity, the thread starter write "For Adults Only" or "Warning - Nudity" because not everyone will remember what "NSFW" means.
i agree... NSFW would make it a bit more confusing for others... but i agree that some kind of warning could be placed...
giancunanan 11-20-2008, 10:59 PM I agree that some kind of warning should be used. I think the "[NSFW]" will probably catch on if used regularly. "Warning: Nudity" is more commonly used on the net.
nap_alcedo 11-20-2008, 11:09 PM Agree..We have to give an explicit warning that will not require reading this thread as a prerequisite for being able to understand what "NSFW" means...If this current thread is buried and a new thread with the letters "NSFW" appears, I personally might click on it because I don't understand it's meaning and it will make me curious...:)
bingpena 11-20-2008, 11:36 PM …oh but i doubt a thread title with a "Warning - Nudity" on it will ever stop us "guys" from clicking on it  besides the boss might see it and will probably insist on clicking it
bongbajo 11-21-2008, 01:41 AM Or should there be a special site for not so decent photos and posts?
Cheers!
Christian L. Sangoyo 11-21-2008, 01:53 AM I agree with this one, specially since even "normal browsing" is not even allowed in our office. Tago mode parati. =P
Lei Sarmiento 11-22-2008, 01:47 PM Guilty! Sorry for not posting a PG / NSFR warning for the L word thread. I was going to add in a ratings warning but I totally forgot it.
Jo Avila 11-25-2008, 04:31 PM I thought that NSFW also stood for Not Safe For Wife :D LOL!
vincentirvingvillanueva 11-25-2008, 10:46 PM Hahah. Nice one.
Kidding aside. I think this is a really wonderful idea.
I thought that NSFW also stood for Not Safe For Wife :D LOL!
JonathanLui 02-09-2009, 05:31 PM I noticed that a lot of the threads in the Portraiture, Fashion, Glamour, Nude (http://digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=40) forum are not tagged with "NSFW" or "Warning" tags.
IMHO, "NSFW" is enough. NSFW is "Not Safe For Work", which I feel can include non-nude photos, i.e. Bikini-shots, suggestive nudes, photos of a violent or offensive nature, etc. Basically anything you won't want your boss to catch you looking at.
No need for specific tags, unless poster wants to.
This rule should be stickied to the Portraiture forum, and added to guidelines. A sticky post titled: "Please add [NSFW] to your post-title if your post is Not Safe For Work" should be enough, with more explanation in the thread itself.
Another option is a subforum under portraiture, but then we don't want to treat those posts as different in importance from the regular ones. We do not want to censor or push them away from view, rather we want to be forewarned in case we are surfing under more restrictive environments.
Lance_Aquino 02-18-2009, 10:11 PM I think there should be an alternative to "NSFW." Newbies or totally innocent beings like me would just say, "What in the world is NSFW?" then click on it. Phrases like "Mature content" (or "PG13" just kidding) might work.
rueltacuycuy 03-03-2009, 06:23 AM We should also put a bar on what pics are under the NSFW category.

First of all you are not supposed to browse forums inside the office unless you're working as a web developer or a research annalyst.
Or you can browse any websites you want if your name is Chuck Norris.
Thank you
danielmanicad 05-28-2009, 10:07 AM I agree 100% with the OP.
…oh but i doubt a thread title with a "Warning - Nudity" on it will ever stop us "guys" from clicking on it  besides the boss might see it and will probably insist on clicking it
Then the warning will be for guys who will stop upon seeing the warning.

I do not know why but I thought of wrestling the first few times I saw NSFW. :D

I don't think that is the point. And besides, how about those at home, with kids around them? I am sure they would appreciate warnings placed in titles.

Nice Sig Tard.:) made me laugh.. Browsing non work related stuff is always againts the code of work ethics no matter what content they may be..not safe or safe for that matter. I guess the best way to go is..just keep your guard whenever browsing out at work... always get your fingers ready at Alt+F4. :)

as the president of our company-sponsored photography club, i, together with our members were given special permissions to view photography sites like DPP. In return, when we are called in to shoot for our company materials, whoever is free has to shoot.
Quid pro quo so they say.

I don't thinkt we are communicating here. We were talking about browsing internet sites at work and not at home.
Thank you

Just have some questions.
1. Is your photoclub SEC registered ? does it have a juridical personality ?
2. Did your company president ratified your company policy allowing you to browse photo websites ?
3. If your answers are all YES then your company president is the main man !
Thank you

Man if I were your boss then we don't need to talk about browsing websites. You can do whatever you want as long as your job is done.
+ I can probably sponsor some of your photo equipment.
BTW I'm using a Nikon
End of the story
rannydaroya 05-28-2009, 02:22 PM NSFW = First I thought it is about cars, like NEED FOR SPEED. hahaha :D
adrianrodriguez 05-28-2009, 11:17 PM NSFW = First I thought it is about cars, like NEED FOR SPEED. hahaha :D
precisely: Need For Speed most Wanted (NFSW)

Exactly! That's what I've thought when i first saw the 'NSFW' thing.
I still wanted to use a label that even a first time DPPer can understand. But then again, I still have to work out on 'ordinary' model shoots. I'm not jumping in to the fleshier shoots, yet. :)
Bambit Gaerlan 05-29-2009, 11:00 PM I have so many clients from Oz I thought NSFW meant New South Effing Wales :D
