Repost: (I don't know what happened to my first post)

Need comments on this lens. Is this sufficient to cover the focal lengths covered by the kit lens (18-55mm)?

Thanks

i posted this reply on your earlier post:
if you are going to sell the 18-55 and buy the 28-200 instead, you will lose the wide end which is useful for interiors, landscape, architecture and group portraits in tight rooms. 28 is not wide enough for these since it will be 36mm in a non-FF DSLR. if you need a telephoto, it might be better to buy a 70-300, better reach than 200 and you cover a more complete range if paired with the kit lens.

Thanks sir. Will consider your suggestion.

OT: Is it coincidental that the one who replied to my message has the same surname as mine? hehe :)

Thanks again

I agree with Sandro, you lose the wide angle aspect with the 28-200G. But if you're keeping the 18-55, the 28-200 is a good partner to it.

Hi Raffy:

I am the one who's texting you regarding the lens :)

Thanks :)

maybe the server got mixed-up because of our identical surnames, that it automatically erased your original post.
i agree with raffy, if you're going to buy the 28-200, don't let go off your kit lens, you'll need that for sure. just avoid dusts when changing lens.

I agree with Sandro's suggestion about retaining the 18-55 and getting a 70-300 instead for a telephoto. This is what Ken Rockwell suggested when he did a review on the 18-55mm lens.

if you decide to sell your kit lens, sell it to me. tx,

may bidding na ba? :-)

i rather sell 18-55 kung di mo bibilhin ang 70-300mm.

teka rephrase.

ok na rin yun kung if you kept your 18-55 then add 70-300 e ayus din dahil wala kang overlapping ng lente mo. i mean yung 55mm and 70mm.

one more thing, 28-200mm is a "travel lens" as what most of the photogs call it. sa madali't salita if that applies to your personal need at madalas kang magtravel e oks na oks ito.

:-)

Really want to get a speedlight, kahit SB-600 for a tight budget.

Don't worry Sir Yuri, I attended a wedding as a guest with Pat Dy as the main photog and also told me to get an SB-800 hehe.

What I have now is just the kit lens and a 1979 Nikon Series E 50mm f/1.8 prime which i got from my dad's SLR :)

i agree, you'll need both. Kasi pag mahina ang ilaw, or indoor, or especially when you use flash, the 18-55mm will be less prone to vignetting as compared to the 28-200mm zoom, kahit na sabihin mo you shot at the same 28mm zoom range. Vignetting happens when the background of the subject gets significantly dimmer. Actually dapat wala diperensiya, pero parang meron.

the 28-200 cannot replace the 18-55. other than the zooming power, the 18-55mm is a superior lens under challenging light conditions. Yung 28-200, that's relatively good for outdoors.

same experience as with Noel.

the 28-200 is wonderful for outdoor shots... but indoors and even with flash, it's just so-so.

Hello again sirs and madams:

I finally decided to keep my kit lens and get a speedlight. Now I am contemplating on a 70-300mm 4-5.6G lens.

Would like to ask for your inputs on this :)

Thanks :)
