ADVANTAGES:
Price
Small/Compact
Excellent handling
Lightweight (35 grams lighter than the 50mm 1.4)
Smooth manual focus
Extremely fast auto focus
Full frame compatable/APS-C sweet spot advantage
Decent magnification and minimum focus distance
Good bokeh for price (and with only 7 non circular aperture blades)
Great all around first "Prime" lens
Low distortions of any kind
Cheap filters
DISADVANTAGES:
Not as sharp as some primes wide open and stopped down
Not as "bright" as some primes fully open (2.8 vs. say a 1.4 min aperture)
Flare can be an issue
Some barrel distortion full frame, minimal on APS-C however
49mm Filter size a bit uncommon
