no you can't, digiprint or canon or epson. the printer doesn't understand the file format.

Isn't it the software that converts the file to a printable format? DPP prints raw, Zoombrowser prints raw, even google's picasa prints raw.

i should have said, straight from the camera, without software. submitting CR2/NEF files to Digiprint, the machine won't recognize what it is. With software, you can print from your computer to a printer.

You're a RAW shooter. You're at san mig by the bay and you see this beautiful lady staring at a beautiful sunset. You grab a pic of her. You chimp. It was a lovely photo. The only pickup line you can think of involves showing her the printed photo. You run inside MOA to digiprint and have it printed. Run back out and still find the lady there. She gets the photo, you get her number.

NOTE: this is a fictitious scenario and did not happen to me. :D

Thanks for the clarification. :)

Another OT question. The canon camera has a direct print function which allows printing directly from cam to a Canon printer. Am I wrong in assuming that it will print raw captured image? Does epson have a similar functionality?

If you were in this situation, then why complicate it? Just set your camera to shoot RAW+JPEG, or straight JPEG, so you can have it printed right away. :D

It's called PictBridge. I don't think it will print a RAW format image, for reasons already stated below. PictBridge is designed for direct printing -- that is, without a computer, straight from camera to printer. So, it won't print what the printer doesn't understand.

That's still complicated Louie. :) Show it to her then either ask for her email for you to send the softcopy (after PP if you want) or ask for her number to meet again someplace else (a date) and make the excuse of giving her a print copy. :D

Wow. Pro moves! Hahahaha! :D
Yea, it IS still complicated. I was trying to find the "easy" solution to his dilemma while trying to keep in mind what he wants -- the print -- which is certainly not easy at all. Haha.

But this would work just as well, and will give you an excuse to fish for contact details! (email+number maybe.)

Do let us know how it goes in the "field". Haha!

@ Rom Flores, how about this?

If your cam supports shooting JPEG + RAW (meaning you will have two images of a shot -- one for each format), then that's the way to go. You can go to any commercial printer to have the JPEG file printed (assuming their units can read your memory card).

OT: I like the scenario, but the circumstances and outcome is a bit of a challenge. Lots of what-ifs, like:
- she does not appreciate her picture being taken without her consent
- her companion (e.g., boyfriend, father, brother, bodyguard) arrived just as you get back to the scene
- you thought that the lovely photo was sharp on cam lcd, but ended up blurred on regular lcd/crt screen, and, horror of horrors, on print
- you find out that "she" happens to have a Y-chromosome in"her" genes
-etc

Bordering on the fictitious, yes. But it has the makings of a storyline for a tv ad -- like "Kodak moments". :):):)
