hi all,
I also need help.. I am thinking of buying filters for my Sony H9. Does anyone here know if step-down rings or 74mm filter are available at Hidalgo or other camera shops here. I am considering ebay, but I have never tried it though. Any thoughts on these would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :-)

Get a cheap one then remove it when you shoot, yes - I believe it should be there only to protect your lens :D

When I shoot outdoors I add the UV filter and remove it when I shoot indoors.
I'd rather have a scratched filter than a scratched lens
Can you shoot and protect your camera at the sametime with the front cap on? just a thought..:)

if you invested thousands buck for a lens, why buy cheap  accident may happen anytime that you might drop your gear whatever careful you are... i'm not saying its 100% damage proof but imagine if the front element comes first to the ground then its better to see a broken filter :)
