hi guys,

i'm a newbie here... and in the world of DSLR in general :) (though been a P&S shooter for quite a few years now). anyways just wanted to ask something that might sound dumb... (tried searching about it on the forum to no avail :() but... what is the proper storage position of a DSLR on a camera bag? you see i recently bought a Canon EOS 350D and bought a samsonite trekking series bag for it but the only way it can fit on it is if i place the camera vertically on its side. however as i was browsing the net for other camera bag, i saw that the DSLR are being stored with their lense pointing downwards.... which brought me to my question earlier. any info on this is much appreciated. Thanks! :)

as long as the padding is sufficient you can store the camera in any configuration you want. i usually stow the camera on the base first or face frist depending on the lens im using. usually its the lens im using that will dictate how the camera is stowed.

by the way the forum doesnt allow aliases for screennames, kindly use your real name thanks

Hello. Just a friendly reminder to PM the mods your real name as per the forum rules.

Is your samsonite bag specifically for cameras or just an ordinary bag?

It really depends on the bag's design. Those that have lenses that point downward are usually designed for easy access. There are a few where the camera is in a "normal" position (as if you laid it down on a table...) as well. I think what is important is that the bag is well padded and that the lenses and other doodads inside don't move around too much so as to avoid possible scratches and damage. In other words, go for one that has a snug fit.

Oh okay, I suggest you get one specifically for cameras. Worth it to protect your investment. :)

Imho, as long as the bag is padded, any position will do. Just make sure it stays that way after roughing the bag up. Avoid your other bag contents to bang-up with your main cargo.
