View Full Version : Now Out and Final: Lightroom 2 randytamayo 07-29-2008, 04:13 PM See here: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshoplightroom/ David Tong 07-29-2008, 04:16 PM Woohoo! Output sharpening, dodge/burn, multi monitor!!!!!!! Wonder how much the upgrade will cost in SG... hmm randytamayo 07-29-2008, 04:19 PM ^^ David, it ought to be 99USD (converted to SGD) :) David Tong 07-29-2008, 04:21 PM Stupid me, it's web-downloadable... hehe (got too excited). The Asia/Pacific license is more expensive than the US license, though :( But I'll wait a couple of months though... Not into being a paid beta tester :P MelvinSevilla 07-29-2008, 05:09 PM I heard a lot of promising stuff with LR2 including the local adjustments that is quite similar to Capture NX's U-point technology. For 99usd, not that bad. There should be a 30-day trial version right. (Sorry to lazy to go to the site). nino_carandang 07-29-2008, 05:12 PM Multi Monitor!!! Thank You Adobe Gods! David Tong 07-29-2008, 05:57 PM 99 is the upgade, the full cost more. Also, I'm not sure if it really matters if you try to DL from Adobe, but the Int'l license is different from teh US license. lestercallanta 07-29-2008, 07:05 PM Thanks for the link Randy. The upgrade should make it on my list of purchases with my new credit card which am getting today :) enjoy_gaw 07-30-2008, 02:29 PM I watched a few online videos over at (http://www.photoshopuser.com/lightroom2/) about the improvements and the new features seems fantastic. Many of which i didn't know i need them. Only thing i would have wanted that didn't make it was the ken burns effect on slideshow module. MelvinSevilla 07-30-2008, 03:11 PM Installed the trial copy to my PC... Unfortunately, it doesn't run (nothing happens after that trial/buy dialog box pops out). LR2 needs 1GB of ram of run, my laptop has 1GB as well... Not sure why... Does this mean i have to change laptops? :( enjoy_gaw 07-30-2008, 03:15 PM trial works fine on the mac. i enabled the 64bit (just because the option is there), don't know if it makes any difference though on RAM 4GB below. lestercallanta 08-12-2008, 07:07 AM Just purchased the upgrade from Adobe earlier for a total of $111.87 (including tax). Now my Wacom is getting a workout with the local selection tool. The upgrade price is definitely worth it. Check out the Learning Center videos from Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski here (http://www.photoshopuser.com/lightroom2/). Now, back to some Lightroom 2 action, hope to post some images soon. I better pack my bags and leave!!!:D:D:D John Jolbe 08-12-2008, 07:24 AM new filter bar.. multiple monitor... graduated filter tool.. << good saving's no need to buy ND Grad filters.. LoL!!:D TFS! lestercallanta 08-12-2008, 10:34 AM Seems you're settled in your new home....... shopping on line in less that 60 days!!!! Hanep!! I better pack my bags and leave!!!:D:D:D Haha, it's not as easy as it sounds, wifey and I are still looking for work  Anyway, for version 1 users who would like to upgrade, it's wise to keep the previous version installed as the upgrade version searches for a version 1 installation and its serial number present on your hard drive. Both versions can coexist happily on your system. You can import your previous catalog safely on version 2 and all your presets are automatically imported, including custom-created ones! Nonie Villanueva 08-15-2008, 10:27 AM Installed the trial copy to my PC... Unfortunately, it doesn't run (nothing happens after that trial/buy dialog box pops out). LR2 needs 1GB of ram of run, my laptop has 1GB as well... Not sure why... Does this mean i have to change laptops? :( It has something to do with deleting the lightroom preferences http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb404835&sliceId=2 OliverSoliva 08-20-2008, 09:56 PM Installed the trial copy to my PC... Does this mean i have to change laptops? :( LOL, 1GB mem requirement means you'll need to max out XP's (and you laptop's) mem to 3GB. If not, you'll have a lot of coffee breaks in-between your edit clicks. LR is a loser for bare-bones, 1GB systems. More so if your laptop is running on IDE-type drives. :( ryan_tanganco 08-20-2008, 11:25 PM LOL, 1GB mem requirement means you'll need to max out XP's (and you laptop's) mem to 3GB. More so if your laptop is running on IDE-type drives. :( I have a sata HDD running with 2GB of RAM and local adjustments can be a pain. I'm using it with a wacom and from what I have experienced, it is not as intuitive as PS, but then I guess that's the trade off when doing non destructive editing... or am i doing it wrong? David Tong 08-21-2008, 12:02 AM Here's a nice video about the new brush. http://yanikphotoschool.com/tutorials/video_tutorials/lightroom-2-tutorial-adjustment-brush/ I find the LR interface to be a lot easier to use than PS (CS2)... No need for separate layers and such. Nonie Villanueva 09-04-2008, 11:49 PM Want to improve Lightroom performance when using the local adjustment? check this out (for PCs and laptops running on nVidia cards only). I tried it and it really works, no lags on the brush tool anymore!!! http://www.flickr.com/groups/adobe_lightroom/discuss/72157607074073712/ David Tong 09-04-2008, 11:56 PM darn intel built-in video here :( Ickhoy De Leon 09-05-2008, 01:08 AM Here's a nice video about the new brush. http://yanikphotoschool.com/tutorials/video_tutorials/lightroom-2-tutorial-adjustment-brush/ I find the LR interface to be a lot easier to use than PS (CS2)... Big help :) Nonie Villanueva 09-05-2008, 11:22 AM I don't know if this has been raised in this thread already but I have some questions and observation regarding Lightroom. Has any of you experienced an increased in yellow when increasing the contrast? I noticed this especially when editing sunsets. the white reflections on the water shifts to yellow when i try to increase my contrast. I observed that this is only evident when editing sunsets. AnthonyMontecillo 09-05-2008, 11:50 AM i also noticed "yellowing" when using lr2. i usually adjust clarity/vibrance/point curve in my pics and lately when i got them developed, i was surprised that certain areas went yellowish even though the exported jpgs dont look yellow when viewed i havent encountered this before while using lr1.4... time to search the net for answers Danny Lee 09-23-2008, 10:31 AM I don't know if this has been raised in this thread already but I have some questions and observation regarding Lightroom. I noticed this especially when editing sunsets. the white reflections on the water shifts to yellow when i try to increase my contrast. I observed that this is only evident when editing sunsets. I also encountered the same thing. Though my workaround is just increase the black/darkness of the image so that it would look natural. :D lestercallanta 09-27-2008, 07:56 PM It's interesting to note that activating a secondary display without one overlays a resizable window on your display. Am using a windowed Library mode set on the left hand display while am developing some of my pictures. I really need that secondary display for optimum Lightroom 2 workflow. Addendum: Release Candidate 2.1 (http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Lightroom_2.1) is now up. randytamayo 10-24-2008, 05:31 PM LR 2.1 is finally out. http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/ As well as ACR 5.1 diegojose 10-25-2008, 03:51 AM I also encountered the same thing. Though my workaround is just increase the black/darkness of the image so that it would look natural. :D Might be the way Adobe Camera Raw renders the colors. Try downloading the latest camera profiles of adobe. I prefer them much more than the default colors ACR 4.4 renders. lestercallanta 10-25-2008, 10:30 AM The Photoshop Lightroom 2.1 Update is a significant improvement in terms of speed even on a lowly first generation MacBook. Working with the brush tool with the Auto Mask feature now happens in realtime. In terms of speed it was like working with version 1. Kudos to Adobe for making their latest Photoshop apps faster than before! diegojose 10-26-2008, 10:04 PM I still find it quite a lot slower than lightroom 1.4 I'm gonna use my 30-day trial of Aperture and see if I'll be happier there and if I can live without the brush tool Franco Cortez 10-28-2008, 11:18 PM I still find it quite a lot slower than lightroom 1.4 I'm gonna use my 30-day trial of Aperture and see if I'll be happier there and if I can live without the brush tool I read somewhere that lightroom 2 requires more memory than it's previous version. A minimum of 1gig ram for 8 megapixels and below and 1.5gig ram 8 megapixels above. lestercallanta 10-28-2008, 11:47 PM I still find it quite a lot slower than lightroom 1.4 I'm gonna use my 30-day trial of Aperture and see if I'll be happier there and if I can live without the brush tool If you find Lightroom slow on your system, Aperture will fare no better. What Mac are you running it from? diegojose 10-29-2008, 01:47 AM If you find Lightroom slow on your system, Aperture will fare no better. What Mac are you running it from? Yeah I forgot that Aperture uses VRAM nga pala. I'm using a 2.2Ghz MBP 2GB RAM on Leopard. I just miss the real snappy-ness of LR1, and I think it's also because my RAW files are 25-30MB each. Oh well, I'll get more RAM sometime. irwin see 12-13-2008, 09:01 AM anyone had tried the new adobe lightroom 2? thanks David Tong 12-13-2008, 09:23 AM Type Lightroom in the search box, you'll find a lot of threads about it. lestercallanta 12-13-2008, 09:31 PM Merged Irwin's thread to this existing thread posted by randytamayo. Just like Google, the Search function is our friend. randytamayo 12-16-2008, 10:03 PM Update: LR 2.2 is out! I'm a Mac : http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4233 And I'm a PC: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4234 lestercallanta 12-20-2008, 11:54 AM Got the update too. Supported RAW file formats include 5D Mark II, PowerShot G10 and Leica D-Lux 4 among others. PaoZapatero 12-21-2008, 08:42 PM Upgrade time... jondechavez 01-22-2009, 11:57 PM I should upgrade my software now. lestercallanta 01-25-2009, 02:47 PM Lightroom 2 is what I call a killer app. Tested the dual monitor setup with my new HP LP2475w 100% Adobe RGB monitor running in portrait mode with no drivers under Leopard on my MacBook. Response times is very good even with such a lowly "Intelgrated" (pardon the pun) graphics card. Man I need to sit on a bar stool to edit in portrait mode :) randytamayo 01-26-2009, 01:09 PM Les, how easy is it to rotate the HP screen to landscape mode? lestercallanta 01-27-2009, 02:18 AM Les, how easy is it to rotate the HP screen to landscape mode? It's fairly easy Randy. Just push a button on the stand to release the lock and extend the monitor all the way up, then rotate it clockwise. Even better, it has a quick-release VESA plate at the back so you can mount it on an industrial monitor arm that clamps on your desk. georgearquitola 01-28-2009, 09:15 PM Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.3 and Camera Raw 5.3 is now available for download . check the site: http://labs.adobe.com/ randytamayo 01-29-2009, 10:06 PM ^ FYI. Only release candidates. :) edisonmaningat 01-30-2009, 12:25 AM I'm a fan of this LR2.0. makes everything easy for a photographer. edisonmaningat 02-02-2009, 10:13 PM It seems like that you have already done a good job. How can I save the edited pics in Lightroom 2.1? lestercallanta 03-04-2009, 09:40 PM Help!!! How can I save the edited pics in Lightroom 2.1? The beauty of Lightroom is that your current state of "edits" are listed as instructions. You won't lose work nor will it ask you to save even if you quit the program. The only time you need to save is if you are exporting the image as jpeg, psd, tif, etc. Go to File - Export. adrianrodriguez 03-04-2009, 10:24 PM or alternatively, right click on the image you'd like to export (or alternatively use command+click in Mac). lestercallanta 03-05-2009, 01:41 AM Head's up: Lightroom 2.3 (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=4359&fileID=4058) update is now available. allanreamillo 03-05-2009, 10:14 AM Lester & Adrian: Thanks a lot for the advice.
