I heard a lot of promising stuff with LR2 including the local adjustments that is quite similar to Capture NX's U-point technology.

For 99usd, not that bad. There should be a 30-day trial version right. (Sorry to lazy to go to the site).

Also, I'm not sure if it really matters if you try to DL from Adobe, but the Int'l license is different from teh US license.

I watched a few online videos over at (http://www.photoshopuser.com/lightroom2/) about the improvements and the new features seems fantastic. Many of which i didn't know i need them.
Only thing i would have wanted that didn't make it was the ken burns effect on slideshow module.

Installed the trial copy to my PC... Unfortunately, it doesn't run (nothing happens after that trial/buy dialog box pops out). LR2 needs 1GB of ram of run, my laptop has 1GB as well... Not sure why...

Does this mean i have to change laptops? :(

trial works fine on the mac.
i enabled the 64bit (just because the option is there), don't know if it makes any difference though on RAM 4GB below.

Anyway, for version 1 users who would like to upgrade, it's wise to keep the previous version installed as the upgrade version searches for a version 1 installation and its serial number present on your hard drive. Both versions can coexist happily on your system. You can import your previous catalog safely on version 2 and all your presets are automatically imported, including custom-created ones!

LOL, 1GB mem requirement means you'll need to max out XP's (and you laptop's) mem to 3GB. If not, you'll have a lot of coffee breaks in-between your edit clicks. :Grin: LR is a loser for bare-bones, 1GB systems. More so if your laptop is running on IDE-type drives. :(

I have a sata HDD running with 2GB of RAM and local adjustments can be a pain. I'm using it with a wacom and from what I have experienced, it is not as intuitive as PS, but then I guess that's the trade off when doing non destructive editing...

or am i doing it wrong?

I find the LR interface to be a lot easier to use than PS (CS2)... No need for separate layers and such.

Want to improve Lightroom performance when using the local adjustment? check this out (for PCs and laptops running on nVidia cards only). I tried it and it really works, no lags on the brush tool anymore!!!

I don't know if this has been raised in this thread already but I have some questions and observation regarding Lightroom. Has any of you experienced an increased in yellow when increasing the contrast? I noticed this especially when editing sunsets. the white reflections on the water shifts to yellow when i try to increase my contrast. I observed that this is only evident when editing sunsets.

i also noticed "yellowing" when using lr2. i usually adjust clarity/vibrance/point curve in my pics and lately when i got them developed, i was surprised that certain areas went yellowish even though the exported jpgs dont look yellow when viewed

It's interesting to note that activating a secondary display without one overlays a resizable window on your display. Am using a windowed Library mode set on the left hand display while am developing some of my pictures. I really need that secondary display for optimum Lightroom 2 workflow.

Might be the way Adobe Camera Raw renders the colors. Try downloading the latest camera profiles of adobe. I prefer them much more than the default colors ACR 4.4 renders.

The Photoshop Lightroom 2.1 Update is a significant improvement in terms of speed even on a lowly first generation MacBook. Working with the brush tool with the Auto Mask feature now happens in realtime. In terms of speed it was like working with version 1. Kudos to Adobe for making their latest Photoshop apps faster than before!

I read somewhere that lightroom 2 requires more memory than it's previous version. A minimum of 1gig ram for 8 megapixels and below and 1.5gig ram 8 megapixels above.

Yeah I forgot that Aperture uses VRAM nga pala. I'm using a 2.2Ghz MBP 2GB RAM on Leopard. I just miss the real snappy-ness of LR1, and I think it's also because my RAW files are 25-30MB each.

Oh well, I'll get more RAM sometime.

Lightroom 2 is what I call a killer app. Tested the dual monitor setup with my new HP LP2475w 100% Adobe RGB monitor running in portrait mode with no drivers under Leopard on my MacBook. Response times is very good even with such a lowly "Intelgrated" (pardon the pun) graphics card. Man I need to sit on a bar stool to edit in portrait mode :)

It's fairly easy Randy. Just push a button on the stand to release the lock and extend the monitor all the way up, then rotate it clockwise. Even better, it has a quick-release VESA plate at the back so you can mount it on an industrial monitor arm that clamps on your desk.

The beauty of Lightroom is that your current state of "edits" are listed as instructions. You won't lose work nor will it ask you to save even if you quit the program. The only time you need to save is if you are exporting the image as jpeg, psd, tif, etc. Go to File - Export.

or alternatively, right click on the image you'd like to export (or alternatively use command+click in Mac).
