View Full Version : bang for your wide angle buck... any recommendations?
raffyzamora 07-26-2008, 04:01 PM i'm in the market for a wide angle and would love to hear from you guys my options. obviously there's just waaaaaay to many out there with prices from ok to absurd so if you guys can help me weed out which ones stand out, giving the best value for money lens i'm here to listen:) thanks guys :)
ArthurLegardo 07-26-2008, 06:16 PM The Sigma 10-20 was my choice, it's slow but its range and image quality was what sealed the deal for me. Unfortunately, it's APS-C only so once i go full frame it will be the only lens that won't make it over.
MichaelLangner 07-26-2008, 11:18 PM I'm super happy with my Sigma 12-24. And it's full frame too. :)
RameloGusilatar 07-27-2008, 07:04 AM How much and where did you get this? So ... this could make it to full frame then? ... Thanks!

raffyzamora 07-27-2008, 11:33 AM sorry for sounding like a total noob but what do you mean by going full frame?:)

Well, you can get it in a lot of places, but I got mine in the USA for less than 600 USD.

Well, you need to do a little digging. Try to google for "APS-C and full frame" and you will get a wealth of information.
Basically, Sony is about to release a full-frame camera, which means the sensor is larger (same size as 35mm film) and so if your lens is only designed for aps-c, you'll have issues using that lens as basically your corners will be dark or at least have very unacceptable vignetting. Full frame lenses will work fine on full-frams and APS-C cameras. Most of the Sony/Minolta lenses are full frame already, but there are some exceptions.

Congrats for the purchase!:) Only problem with this lens ( Sigma 12-24)is that U cannot attached a filter ( CPL or ND8) at the front becoz of its bulbar format! U can attach a rear gel filter only:)
diegodanila 07-27-2008, 12:08 PM Just a tip if U R scouting for a Sigma lens that will work for both fullframe and crop sensor...just look for this markings DG for full frame and APS-C size sensor and film SLR. DC for APS-C size sensor only. HTH:)

I don't use it with filters anyway. :)

There's also the Tamron 11-18 (and the Sony clone). You could also try the Sony 16 f/2.8 fisheye, but it's a fisheye.
