View Full Version : underwater slr camera case at aperture
cholodelavega 10-13-2006, 10:23 PM i saw one at aperture and im planning to get one for our trip to pagudpud this november and im planning to take underwater shots but im still hesitant because it's like you put the camera inside the "salbabida" and is made up of plastic. This is just the underwater camera case i can afford (P3500 or P4000 yata).... the question is, do you think it's tough enough to keep the water inside? nakakakaba din kasi baka mamaya malunod ang oly ko :D
enjoy_gaw 10-14-2006, 12:15 AM i haven't used one, but it's something i'd try myself. As long as you stay within the specs of the manufacturer i think it should be safe, but i'd recomend a test dive first, perhaps with some paper mockup of your camera.
cholodelavega 10-14-2006, 12:41 AM that's a good idea. or maybe tissues so that it's really visible if water penetatrated the case :)
Carlo R. Lopez 10-15-2006, 05:47 PM honestly those cases were designed to use the camera in very wet environments like kayaking, white water rafting or even doing some shots in heavy surf as well as rain shots. it was not intended for totally immersing in water such as snorkling even though the manufacturer specifies it.
cholodelavega 10-15-2006, 07:33 PM oh... why can't it be totally immersed in water bro?
Alden Arellano 10-15-2006, 08:37 PM oh... why can't it be totally immersed in water bro?
Because of pressure that will make water seek the weak points in the housing's seal. The greater the depth, the greater the pressure. But as mentioned previously, if you use it accdg to specs there is not much to worry about. Hope this helps.
Dwight Alejo 10-15-2006, 09:16 PM wheres aperture?
thanks.
manny.talavera 10-15-2006, 09:28 PM Aperture trading is located at Banawe St., Quezon City, here is a link to their website http://www.aperturetrading.com/
The plastic housing is also available at InfoMax, I think they are rated up to 3 meters depth.
Dwight Alejo 10-15-2006, 09:37 PM thanks for the info Manny.

marco malaca 10-16-2006, 06:46 PM hi cholo,
whats is the brand name of the case for the camera?
im also interested in getting one.
tnx!
Norman_P._Aquino 10-16-2006, 07:19 PM Your SLR is too expensive to be put in some sort of a Ziplock for underwater use. It may protect your camera from splashes, but I wouldn't trust it underwater.
Regards,
Norman

norman, you hit the nail on the head! im not going to risk my expensive investment. all it needs is a snag on a coral and goodbye. also remember that tiny things on the surface like nails, bangka wood splinters, rocks etc will compromise the fragile seal of the bag. i wouldnt risk it for total immersion
cholodelavega 10-30-2006, 07:00 PM marco, i forgot the brand but if you go to aperture, it's on a stand that's near the lightmeters i think. :D
eric_javier 10-30-2006, 07:56 PM Ewa marine brand, I see those and tested with some divers, actually i see it at 90 feet.
It survive, but like they said, i will not trust them to put my DSLR there.

Princess Jarlyn Young 10-31-2006, 08:30 PM hi there,
if you can find the thread with the title anilao..., which was contributed by ariel.. *not sure.. she dives and uses a trustworthy underwater equipment for her camera.. she is also the sole distributor of her underwater case for her 350d in the philippines.
probably you can ask her if the one that you would like to buy is reliable or not. =)

GelbertAplal 10-31-2006, 09:28 PM me I was looking at the U-AX housing, any one has an idea if this casing is worth it? I dont really plan to use it diving, I just want to do some shoot on a pool or have my cam protected when shooting wet :)
caloy_samson 10-31-2006, 09:40 PM will you be wiling to test your d70s at 3 atm?
not even 2:)
migsguerrero 10-31-2006, 11:14 PM lol, trust a 5K plastic bag with a 50K+ slr? use at your own risk after all you can always buy a new camera.
sheelah_uy 01-12-2009, 04:09 PM I think I saw that bag too... I'd like a case but I wouldn't risk my baby in that thing...
I saw that Anilao post. Do you have her site or contact number? I don't know what site you were referring to but I'm interested in buying something for my d60... (sorry... amateur lang po... heehee)
