what's your take on the Canon EF 28-135/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens? how does it compare performance-wise and in terms of shot quality (sharpness e.g) to other lenses (canon, sigma, tamron SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di LD, canon 24-70 L lens)?

I have the EF-S Version (17-85 IS USM) of this lens and find it to be one of the best all-around lenses I've ever used. It's sharp, focuses really fast, and covers all the focal length I need.

i think its a bit presumptuous to compare the 28-135 to a 24-70L or 24-105L....

but stopped down to f8 i think it holds its own....

that's my 1st lens (aside from the 18-55 when i bought a 350D). it gave me good photos. yes, stopped down it gives you the sharpness. the only reason i'm no longer using it is because of my 24-70 and 70-200 L lenses. :)

Popular Photography & Imaging Magazine gave it a recommended rating for the low-and/or mid-priced lens. ditto other magazines and websites.

I'm still using it now and I must say I'm very impressed with the quality of my shots :)
