I am trying to catch up with a 6 months photo file backlog and below were some hummingbird shots done about 3-4 months back. I have a backyard feeder but the hummingbirds comes in at unholy hours (weekdays, early in the morning and late in the afternoon) and oftentimes the feeder gets in the way. If I want better shots, I usually go to the University of California Santa Cruz Arboretum where they have a hummingbird trail (birds as close as a few feet if you will just stay quiet and motionless most of the time).
In my area, only two common types - the Anna's hummingbid (1st 2 pics) and the Rofous (last 2 pics).
enjoy,
gil

Wow, great photos. Capturing birds in flight is tough; I'm sure this little guy is even harder. I have tried seagulls, they're already pretty tough, haha. :D

Amazing Captures :) I wish to capture them as well :)
I find it amazing that they can flap their wings so fast they still stay blurred in the pics :)

Thanks Fidel. They hover when feeding and with adequate AF from your camera, should be a comfortable capture after some practice. I have taken some using a prosumer (see below from Panasonic FZ20). The problem, I don't think we have hummies in the Phil.

Thanks much Earl, Reyno, Marton,
Actually freezing the wings is easier with a high sync flash which I don't have but I haven't tried also built-in flash.
