I use the on-camera flash on my point and shoot to trigger a slave flash. The problem is, the on-cam flash causes unwanted highlights on the subject. I've tried putting several layers of tracing paper over it. It has helped some, but there are still visible highlights on my shots. Is there anything else I can do that won't involve buying new equipment?

Jp, try an old pringles cap as a diffuser or a thick bond paper. :)

Make sure it's the "old" type. Not the new clear one.

You can also try to cover it with a strip of film negative.

or deflect the light either sideways or upwards. duct tape & aluminum foil will do.

newbie here....

how will the slave flash still work if you "divert" the light from the onboard flash? diba the slave flash only activates from the reflected light of the onboard flash?

Tim: I guess that would depend on how sensitive the slave flash is to the source light.
