View Full Version : Jeepney ride in the Cagayan valley
Carlo R. Lopez 10-10-2006, 04:43 PM i sat atop a jeepney on the way to the summit of the chico river for some white water rafting. the 17-55 performed better than expected inspite of the very very rough roads. here are some of my shots of the people of the region

chuck_maceda 10-10-2006, 05:13 PM Nice jeep's roof perspecive Carlo!
Jun Tordillo 10-10-2006, 05:45 PM To echo TJ: oo nga ganito pa rin transport sa probinsya namin. always seating capacity...sa bubong :)
Thanks for the heads up on rooftop perspective. might try this one day pag uwi ko. I liked the Extended Family shot.
Giovanni de la Cruz 10-10-2006, 06:17 PM LOL! That's how I used to ride the jeepneys in the province. Too chicken to try that now.
orlando_arcelao_jr 10-10-2006, 06:27 PM Nice shots Carlo! Thanks for sharing! :)

wala nman bang nahuhulog? :Scared:
zandy_marantal 10-11-2006, 02:11 AM Nice captures Carlo! I like the 1st B&W and the last Sepia best.
Regarding resizing, it's very easy to create an action in Photoshop to do that in a batch.
Or you can open a Smugmug account and all you have to do is upload your pic and it will create different sizes for you all ready for hot linking :)
regards.

zandy, enlighten me how to resize by batch? also thanks for the comments. im still experimenting with converting to Bw. so far im not satisfied with the results, still very inconsistent.

Darryl Ong 04-17-2007, 09:09 AM carlo,, is cdo a great place for photography? a friend is inviting me to come with them this august,, just wondering if it's a nice place for a photography enthusiast
Donna Samonte 04-17-2007, 09:20 AM carlo,, is cdo a great place for photography? a friend is inviting me to come with them this august,, just thinking if it's a nice place for a photography enthusiast
@Darryl: Did you mean, Cagayan de Oro? Because, Carlo's thread is about Cagayan Valley, up north. My apologies for butting in...
@Carlo: Thanks for sharing, suddenly I miss Cagayan! Did you had the chance to visit Callao Cave? It's a very interesting place to shoot and the Cagayan River too plus Tuguegaro City, of course.:)
nino_carandang 04-17-2007, 09:22 AM carlo,, is cdo a great place for photography? a friend is inviting me to come with them this august,, just wondering if it's a nice place for a photography enthusiast
hi darryl,
don't know if carlo's still around to answer. CDO and Cagayan Vallery are two different places. Cagayan Valley is up north, and CDO is in Mindanao. As far as really great place for photography, Cagayan Valley is pretty decent. I was a medrep stationed in CDO once, as far as my memory serves me, CDO's just ok for photography. It's more like a big and cleaner Binondo the city itself. As for the regions around it, it's very mountainous.
HTH.
Nin
mitzpicardal 04-17-2007, 09:26 AM Nice perspective. I like the mono B&W more than the sepia tinted version.
Darryl Ong 04-17-2007, 07:39 PM @ donna and nino - i got poor geography knowledge,, thanks for enlightening me:), i remember just the other day i thought pagudpod was beside laguna:Grin:
@ nino - thanks for the info,, i guess i won't be going there,, might plan other trips,,
thanks
Oggie Ramos 04-17-2007, 08:02 PM @darryl, if it's any consolation, cagayan valley is more accessible than cdo  mga 11-12 hour bus trip from manila. donna is right, maganda rin magphoto-op dun, using tuguegarao as a starting point either going to penablanca, iguig or gattaran.

Darryl Ong 04-17-2007, 08:42 PM thanks oggie,, i guess i have to go there to find out,, just found out ( thanks wikipedia ) that it consist of 5 provinces and one of them is batanes,, which is one of the places i really wanted to go to,, thanks:)
Oggie Ramos 04-17-2007, 08:58 PM @darryl, yup, cagayan is one large region. i was surprised it includes batanes stretching from just beyond nueva vizcaya/isabela all the way north. have been to batanes twice but haven't ventured to aparri (remember the eat bulaga jingle: "mula aparri hanggang jolo..." yan ang pangarap kong gawin, hahaha). maybe next time i will go as far as aparri, either coming from pagudpod (what we can call the ilocos-cagayan loop) or straight from manila, passing by quirino, nueva ecija, nueva vizcaya. wow, bro, just typing this makes my feet itch. lakwatsero kasi, hahaha.

Donna Samonte 04-17-2007, 09:29 PM Hi Darryl and Oogie. Going up north is a fun filled trip and great photo ops. You can start going to Bulacan thru Nueva Ecija and you would want to stop at Dalton Pass - the highest point in Nueva Vizcaya, great moutains and Zigzag Road longer than the one in Baguio (pls correct me, if I'm worng..hehe). Not to mention spring waters around the mountain area. The you'll be down to Isabela where, there's so much pre-historic churches like Tumauini, Cabagan, San Pablo and Guibang (and maybe a place to stay overnight for free...just PM me about this...hahaha) also, where you can also find the Magat Dam found in Ramon, Isabela. Oh forgot to mention, the Naguilan Bridge too which I belive is the longest in the province. Then you'll reach Cagayan where you can find Callao Cave, Our Lady of Piat, etc....etc...etc.....then there's Aparri, Ilocos and of course....Batanes!
Now, what do you think of that as trip? Exhausting, yeah but FUN and EXCITING!
Welcome to Region 2!
aldrichlim 04-17-2007, 09:32 PM WOW! thats fun! :D
Darryl Ong 04-18-2007, 08:09 AM @ donna - wow you already listed a lot of nice places,, hmmm will PM you if ever i'm going to isabela,, thanks:)
@ oggie - sige bro thanks:)
Oggie Ramos 04-18-2007, 10:34 AM @donna, thanks for the heads-up. i'm vague about places in isabela though i would love to go to palanan given a chance. like darryl, i'll definitely pm you when my feet itches again. thanks again.

wow, its nice to know that you guys are interested to visit my hometown. i come from aparri. :) its a 12 hour ride from manila and about 6 hours from pagudpud, if im not mistaken.
Donna Samonte 04-19-2007, 08:40 AM @Darryl and Oggie: You're most welcome! Region 2 is something to explore about...it's seldom photographed, I guess and we have lots of great photographic sceneries.
Btw, I'm from Isabela.... just in case, you're wondering why I'm bragging about the region. :D
PS. Oggie: Palanan is a very nice place but not fully develop, you've to fly to reach the beach area, though I'm not sure if there's already a land travel to reach the place. And also, here's a hint....there's a chance of good "photo journalism" there...if you'll find the right person to ask.
Ronnel Cuison 04-19-2007, 10:03 AM Clap clap clap!!!!! Wow!
arneldelrosario 04-19-2007, 10:51 AM Glen
i am also from Aparri town proper.:)
Oggie Ramos 04-19-2007, 11:20 AM @glenn, donna, arnel,
i find it serendipitous to hear from you because i want to go back up north sometime next month, given the chance. the guidebooks are not much of help because some of these places are not explored and off the beaten path especially for tourists.
@donna, i heard so much about palanan. it is considered the philippines' real last nature reserve, owing partly to the fact that it is hard to reach and maraming npa doon. the plane going there has to be chartered or the sked is unreliable. it can also be reached by boat but i heard from a friend that one has to be really patient. it certainly is one of my dream destinations.
@glenn & arnel, it will be a great help if you enlighten us what are the must-go to places in aparri. except for big-game fishing (largely in the babuyan channel), there's not much info available in the guidebooks or internet sites. thanks guys in advance for your help.

@Oggie: Wow! that was the hint about my photo journalism...Palanan is tagged as "NPA area" since time and memorial. Should you plan to go, send me PM....
Oggie Ramos 04-19-2007, 11:36 AM @donna, i will, i will. thanks so much for the very prompt reply. isabela is off-the-radar when it comes to tourism but personally, i have no problems with that. one of my blogfriends, si wili, told me so much about isabela. his palanan stories have made me even more fascinated with going there.

jay jallorina 04-19-2007, 11:50 AM Oggie....a few weeks is insufficient to explore the wilds of palanan. the vast northern sierra madre park is a "virgin" photographer's (and mountaineer's) haven. i took have this place in my radar for a long time already....til now its just a black spot in my travel map :)
Donna...wish you were here to show us what lies in store for avid landscapers in your hometown :)
Donna Samonte 04-19-2007, 12:04 PM @jay: let me know when you plan to go, maybe I can still help in any way :) Isabela and Cagayan used to be my playground..was here and there!
Oggie Ramos 04-19-2007, 12:18 PM @jay, that much i know bro. i've been eyeing palanan for two years now. no luck. one needs at least 3-4 weeks to even dare venture there.
@donna, tama si jay. it would help us very much if you share your bits of wisdom about isabela.

masarap ang pancit sa tuguegarao. :)
daleiranon 06-03-2007, 05:56 PM Nice sharp pictures. Colors are also very nice and vibrant. I would prefer a little less contrast though, but thats just my preference.
Here's my take of the Philippines' fave transport. Its a bit soft, and background is overexposed. I just took it while walking along UP. No PP. CC are welcome.
