No more updates on the Visatecs? I hear they're hiked prices when the dollar went down. I wonder how much they are now...

Last I checked, the Solo 400B which is 335USD in BHPHOTO is 23KPhp in Island - or about 7KPhp (43.75%) markup...

Thanks Chuck. I am looking at 400B Car Kit or 800B Car kit (2 heads.)

TO be honest, i would rather see the heads prices go down to par with US pricing rather than the modifiers. I am after the heads and I don't need the branded modifiers.

The HK and SG distributors are not answering emails. > : (

Do you guys have any feedback on the Elinchrome Dlite2 (or Dlite4) sets? I believe they are around 40-45K php (based on US prices).

I know there are no distributors here so if there are issues with your sets, no one can't fix it... Or am I mistaken?

ELINCHROM is one of the most reputable and sought after brands when it comes to photographic lighting. they're the Rolex of studio lights owing to it's legendary swiss precision manufacturing but alas, it has succumbed to the if you can't beat em' join em' club and when i last checked them out at a photo store here, some of their models, especially the lower Dlite series are now being made in India. not that i am biased against india but i guess psychologically, i will feel more deficient. the Dlite2 kit is 799 canadian dollars or 36,000 pesos or thereabouts in current exchange. if there are no local distributors, don't fret. there is a guy there named nico who is an absolute genius in repairing busted photographic lights and strobes. and he charges unbelievably low rates for his services.

Anyone here know where to get 6foot wide seamless paper? All they have here is 9ft. And the space a friend has is about 8ft wide. No, hacksawing the 9ft paper is not an option. Savage has 57" in their site but Aperture does not carry it.

Thanks!

I would go with Elinchrom if:

1. It was available here in the Philippines
2. It had support here in the Philippines
3. It had spare parts readily available here in the Philippines

I'd stick to brands locally available rather than go thru hair-pulling episodes (even with my 'Uno' cropped hair) when these things break down.

I wished there were more players in the field locally. Read: Elinchrom, AlienBees, etc

agree. if you are attracted to elinchrom just because it's swiss, the dlite series are made in india the last time i checked. flimsy plastic hosing too. check-out white lightning- theyre built like a tank and in my opinion is your best bang for the buck. made of aircraft aluminm and bullet proof!

Prices have gone up I guess. In the pricelist I got from Aperture, the 308S is listed at 8,300Php. Now if only DSLR and accessories prices go down like gasoline...

There are some budget lighting package that you can buy here:
http://www.discounttommy.com/Shop/Control/fp/SFV/32282/brand/SquarePerfect
SP3700 seems to have a good review. However, these might not be for heavy duty use.

Pardon me for off topic but I found this Strobist: Lighting 101 tutorial. This might also be a good reference for us who wants to start learning studio lightings.

Sean go to Island-Multi in Gamboa, Makati. If you cant go now, go next weekend to Glorietta Activity center for Photoworld Asia 2009. They should have a booth there.

Try also Aperture Trading, Makati or Banawe QC. They may have what you need from 3rd party sources (using speedrings)

Cheers!

Do I still need to buy a Standard Silver Reflector for Visatec Solo 800B to attach the Umbrella reflector? Since it's 110/120 Volts, what's the capacity of the AVR that I need to buy for the Solo 800B (500VA?) or should I just use an ordinary transformer?

Thanks.

Got it. The Standard Silver Reflector has a different usage. All I need now is a transformer/AVR. =)
