View Full Version : What Goals Have You Set?
Jo Avila 10-09-2006, 03:25 PM I remember a promise I made myself when I graduated from college. I told myself that one day I would shoot the yearbook photos of my alma mater. I managed to achieve that goal within two years.
Does anyone else have any personal photography goals that they would like to share?
Nono Felipe 10-09-2006, 03:39 PM After the Blue Eagles won the 2002 UAAP championship title I told myself that the following season I would shoot them from the best seat in the house: courtside. Did that twice in the 2003 season and since 2004 have been shooting each and every Blue Eagles game, save for a couple.
raul_echivarre 10-09-2006, 05:24 PM Funny how some would define that by the number of "L" lenses they'd acquire over the next couple of months or years :)
Seriously, all I really wanted to do was take "nice" pictures.
Nobody ever warned me that "nice" was a BIG word of various permutations that's going to keep me awake at night.
Nick Tuason 10-09-2006, 07:46 PM I want to be as good as the main man, Jo Avila!
orlando_arcelao_jr 10-09-2006, 08:09 PM Funny how some would define that by the number of "L" lenses they'd acquire over the next couple of months or years :)

Ahahahaha! Couldn't agree more Raul! :)
jose_deluna 10-09-2006, 08:15 PM Back in the 80's... I had that dream of "shooting" and pressing the trigger without hurting or killing anyone... without destroying LIFE.
Now, I have realized that dream... I am shooting to capture and promote LIFE.
Earl Gonzalez 10-09-2006, 08:22 PM My goal is to be the best! And if I cannot be the best of the best; I'd settle at least to be one of them. :)
jose_deluna 10-09-2006, 08:31 PM My most recent goal... to put up my own photography website by early next year... TING! Para maging one-click away lang ako sa aking mga mahal sa buhay...
levi lacandula 10-09-2006, 09:02 PM to hold a photo exhibit... realized that last mar 2005:)
im aiming to put up a simple website... crossing my fingers (early next year):)
Ronnel Cuison 10-09-2006, 09:14 PM I plan to be as big as the biggest name in advertising photography here and abroad. I wanna earn millions and not peanuts. Then I'll have my own art and photo exhibit when I retire. Nothing is impossible!
don_garchitorena 10-09-2006, 09:43 PM ayaw ko magpromise..... baka mapako
being new to photography, still a long road ahead for goals... i'll get back to this thread once i get hold of my photography-related goal:)
Tammy_David 10-09-2006, 09:50 PM Graduate from College cause it's taking me forever!!!
Photo related goal. January 2005, I decided I wanted to be a photojournalist and December 2005, I got published in Newsbreak thanks to luck. I still have a long way to go though *sigh*
Teejay Joson 10-09-2006, 09:53 PM Indonesia, Thailand, India and other Asian countries ay nagpapa-tournament na sa professional tennis, i hope someday magkaron din sa pinas (since i like tennis sport a lot and an average player).
then, if that time comes (matagal pa for sure), siguro naman medyo marami na kong alam sa photography... so it means, i hope i can be one of the photograhers to cover that tournament. definitely, i'll do my best.
Jo Avila 10-09-2006, 09:57 PM Does your wife know this? :D
I want to be as good as the main man, Jo Avila!
joseph_acapuyan 10-19-2006, 07:02 PM Being also new to photography, learn and improve the skills needed, maybe someday make it as a profession.

Sandro from Lightform Photography Club congrats nga pala from winning first price in Old and New Dubai photo competition. :)
ann_francisco 10-23-2006, 10:46 PM still figuring out what i want to do with my life... so i guess that's my goal for now..
Sonny Thakur 10-23-2006, 11:38 PM Levi,
Thanks.
Orlando,
#4 is the least of my concerns. I have a few scandanavian friends and they look like pornstars so I guess I have that part set. :)
zandy_marantal 10-23-2006, 11:41 PM Wow! Congrats Sandro!
Care to post that winning photo?
nolan_empalmado 10-23-2006, 11:50 PM when jo avila shot my wedding i told myself that one day i would cover important events.
2 years later i got back into photography.
since then i've shot both my kids' cs deliveries (despite the fact that i hate the site of blood), i've shot both their baptisms, both their first birthdays...
a few months after my first kid's birth i got published shooting some sports (hardly seems as important as the milestones above but it's there under other good stuff :) )
now i'm just taking things as they come shooting the eagles when i can.
James_Limsoc 10-24-2006, 12:22 AM For me my goal as a wedding photographer is to be able to produce photographs like the works of the people I admire in this field such as Dino Lara, Pilar Tuazon, Lito Sy and more. Of course my clients should be able to appreciate my work. Fame comes secondary for me.
michelle go 10-24-2006, 02:11 AM for now i want to make classic greeting cards out of the black and white portraits i took of my dogs. i plan to sell them come christmas time and some of the earnings (that is if they sell) will be given to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). i eventually plan on becoming a good pet photographer. i'm a work in progress =)
winky_valerio 10-24-2006, 02:30 AM I have several levels set to my mind. Just started out photography with a PnS a few months back, luckily achieved level 1 in no time coz one of my pic was featured in a daily newspaper, now I'm off to level 2. I'm will not dreaming of the impossible such as make a history in photography. Just a more decent recognition/award would definitely be the last level , at sana maging 1st photographer na makilala sa family namin and lastly, sana maging raket ko photography pag may decent cam na...hehehe
eric espenida 10-24-2006, 09:55 PM For me, my main goal before the year end is to buy a new Canon S3 IS digital camera, so that i could start learning basic photograpgy and camera handling, though for now im not planning to make photography a career, i just goin to take it step by step, i hope this forum will help me gain more information about this hobby..
arlene solis chua 10-24-2006, 10:05 PM to win the WORLD PRESS PHOTO OF THE YEAR 20?? then the Pullitzer award 20??
thats my goal not a wish...hehehehe!!!!!
Manuel Garcia 10-25-2006, 09:36 PM for me ,no plan at all. I just want to be an amateur , photography for me is just a hobby (retirement hobby) no business, if want to earn money from photgraphy ,not by shooting picture but selling equipment may be. " insha Allah":)
Jo Avila 10-26-2006, 11:59 AM It doesn't have to be a professional goal.
It could be something else. Some photographers enroll in my class simply because they want to take better pictures of their children.

Buddy Arancon 10-26-2006, 12:09 PM to be able to attend one of sir jo's classes before the year ends. :)
and also to shoot at my heart's content. :)
Fol Rana, Jr. 10-26-2006, 12:22 PM I guess the first goal that i set was to be recognized and earn from this hobby without giving up my corporate work. so far, everything is working perfectly and i have been managing to combine work (banking) and passion (photography) for the past 6 years.
next goal i have set is to be instrumental in bringing photography business in the philippines to a higher level. very vague yet but slowly working on it.

Ria Vallesteros 10-26-2006, 12:26 PM I've been wanting to get a photo published in a magazine and I've done that. And someone has asked to use my photos for a newspaper article to come out soon. I'd love to be sent on a travel story where I'd do both the writing and photography.
Edwin_Martinez 10-26-2006, 02:00 PM main goal? dont know, hopefully my photos will lead me there....
ana_mamangun 10-26-2006, 04:48 PM during my last 2 years in college, I wanted to take photos of the most memorable places in UPLB, that was suppose to be my grad gift to myself. For some reason I did not get to spend time plus I did not have my own camera then (until now actually!) The story board was already in place and its still is up to now. Sad lang what happened to LB because of Milenyo... Hay I dunno if my memorable spots are still existing or just plain memory na lang... I heard the hanging bridge is no longer hanging...
Pero still, i have to work on this project... I plan to fill up our walls at home with my photos (and my husband-to-be's photo's as well).
Siguro, this is my ultimate lifetime project... fill my home with frames of moments in our lives thru photos... there! my goal. :)
Sonny Thakur 10-26-2006, 05:02 PM Ana,
I'd love to also be able to fill up the walls in my room with photos. All black and white... all film :D

Darryl Ong 10-26-2006, 05:13 PM my goal is to take (most of them) photo that when somebody sees it they will say " ang galing" ... not something like " ai i can do that also!" hehehe i think most people underestimate the craft,,,
Darryl Ong 10-26-2006, 05:15 PM short term goal,,, take a photo of close friends ( something that is really good, ) 8 x 10, b&w, give it to them as christmas presents :)

Manuel Garcia 10-26-2006, 07:20 PM It doesn't have to be a professional goal.
It could be something else. Some photographers enroll in my class simply because they want to take better pictures of their children.
I think that is what i am doing , taking picture of my love ones. I enrolled in Photo school because of that....salam.....
Nick_Espino 10-26-2006, 07:42 PM There were 2 specific advertising work on my list (Nikon and Apple). I accomplished the Nikon ad as I did the Nikon pre-shoot with Kate Moss this year through our agency. On the other hand, I may never get to shoot Apple. Sigh.
ana_mamangun 10-26-2006, 07:45 PM Ana,
I'd love to also be able to fill up the walls in my room with photos. All black and white... all film :D
