Hi, I'm new to this group. Has anyone noticed a shutter lag in E-410 when shooting in priority modes, even in broad daylight? I experimented by shooting from one of the scene modes (fast/action) and duplicated all the exposure settings into Aperture and Shutter priorities and Manual, and to my disbelief it took the camera about a second until it finally closed the shutter. It was so slow even at 1/1000th of a second that what I got was actually the last frame when I tried to pan it at 1/1000th in shutter priority. Has anyone ever worked on the E-410? Thanks.

By the way, photography is my hobby but I'm more of the point and shoot for the last couple of years, so I'm graduating from a casual shooter. I bought the E-410 because it was cheap ($406.99 with lens kit from dell.com, free shipping) and it' handy. I used to have the Pentax K100D and a DA 40/2.8 and flash but the Pentax was too heavy and it was a pain in the neck.

that shouldn't happen josel. have you noticed it in all shots in P mode or some shots? i would suspect the lens isn't focused yet that's why it won't fire. anyways -- go to wrotniak's page (http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/43/e510-sett.html) on the E-410 and see if you've set your camera the right way. :D update us. :D

I have a hunch that it's not shutter lag but AF lag. Maybe you're pointing to a no-contrast subject

have you check the Anti-Shock option? maybe it was set to 1 second or more.

I do have an E410 and I don't experience shutter lag. Sometimes though, focusing is difficult it prevents you from getting the shots you want on times you wanted it shot. Well probably becuase I use just the kit lenses and E410 only have 3 AF points. It was a bit more problematic on the 70-300mm.

I have done some panning shots with the E410 and the cam performed sufficiently.

Thanks, Jon. No, it's not the focus. I thought it was initially. I tried shooting from one of the scene modes (Sport/Fast Shutter) and it went ok, faster than I could even start panning the frame to see if there really was a lag. The results were ok. Then, I tried duplicating all the exposure settings into manual, shutter and aperture modes (even Program) that is when I noticed the lag. I did it again and this time I panned the camera (after releasing the shutter) to see which frame it will capture, and it was the last one indeed. That's weird, the camera was quick in scene modes but with same settings, was slow in priority modes, even Program.

Thanks Toto. I did the panning only to prove to myself that the camera was taking the last frame. Well, yeah mabagal nga ang lens that came as kit. I think it's the Anti-Shock, thank you Francis. I didn't know what it was for. I just click on it. I thought it was the built-in shake reduction, but of course the E-410 doesn't have one. Para saan ba iyon? Sorry I didn't read the manual, I also panned through the pages.

The Anti-Shock thing with Olympus means MIRROR LOCK UP. It flips the mirror up when you press the shutter the first time, takes the photo with the second press of the shutter. It's best used for longer exposures and macro work to prevent whatever vibration caused by the mirror flipping up and down.

When I used the E-500 a couple of years ago, I thought the Oly had in-cam IS, the user's manual was so poorly written that I never deciphered what "Anti Shock" really is until I took the lens off and see what was happening.

Thanks, David. I did had the anti-shock set to 1 second. No wonder the lag felt like a second.

oh i remembered i had that enabled in my E-500 years ago, i thought that was some sort of in body IS or something. haha! though i don't remember it not having an effect in A and S modes. anyways, hope you visit wrotniak's site (linked it on my first post), all the function and settings of your E-410 will be explained and i'm sure you'll have a grand time with your camera. :)

Wrotniak should be paid by Oly for the documentation... The OEM documentation is virtually useless.
