Did anyone go to the Gawad Kalinga event right across Mall of Asia? It was my first time to go to Mall of Asia today so I brought my uncle and cousin to take some black and whites with me. I then learned about a big event by Gawad Kalinga so I immediately bought a ticket and started shooting. Though my onbjective was to shoot black and whites, I did manage to get a few with a digital.

indeed, it must have been a great place to do some candid shooting. yes i was there during some of the activities. my company, prudentialife plans inc., is one of the major partners of gawad kalinga and last friday, we sponsored a mass for all these children from various GK communities. here are some of the shots. 2 lang because i was actually there to play guitar for the choir during the mass! hehehe. so these were "takas" shots.

shot with the 50mm full open at f/1.8. the lighting was tricky inside the cavernous church. i was trying to avoid the flood of sunlight streaming from the massive side doors. was practically lying on my back on the shrine's central nave, shooting up at these wonderful kids.

i know, i know. mga bata na naman....hehehe:)

You might want to be a volunteer photog for Gawad Kalinga. I used to shoot for them when I was still in Manila. Normally, this is volunteer work if you have some spare time. Let me know if you're keen. I can introduce you to the point persons. :)

Melvin... ako interesado to volunteer, but I'll be available only during my vacation in January next year... and I will also be based in Iloilo. In any case, I would be interested to shoot for GK during said month in Iloilo or nearby provinces (Visayas).

I was trying to look for some shots about Gawad Kalinga and im glad i found this forum, though this is a year ago but hope you still read this.

First of all, I would like to thank you for your support in the work of Gawad Kalinga through some of the pictures you have posted in this site. I can only hope that you have been able to inspire more photographers to take there shots in GK.

I've personally hope to join your ranks in the field of photograpy. Ive only been exposed in the basics but have always aspired to learn more about the field as i know it would greatly contribute to my own work in GK.

Anyway, i hope someday you could also visit some of our GK communities to share to other people the photos of hope of our country. As we in GK believe that all should be involved in the work of uplifting the poorest of the poor, given our own talents and abilities...

GK will hold its annual GK Bayani Challenge in Mindanao from April 13-18. Its actually a race to build a house for 1 week. So everyone has to stay in the Village for a week.
