View Full Version : More of Tubbataha
Norman_P._Aquino 10-07-2006, 11:38 AM Here are some shots from my Tubbataha trip last year. Haven't dived since my Tubbataha live-aboard in June this year and I have been limited to looking at old underwater pictures. :0 Hoping to go under soon... Hope you like these.

orlando_arcelao_jr 10-07-2006, 01:35 PM Wow! Those are really exotic underwater shots! Galeng galeng! Great work man! :)
Norman_P._Aquino 10-07-2006, 01:37 PM Fidel, Alex, Earl, Teejay, Jimmy, Louie, Orlando, thanks for the kind comments. Jimmy, it's a black-spotted toad fish and it's poisonous. Teejay, ito na nga, walang iba. I almost went on deco dive because of that black-spotted stingray. It was at 30 meters (100 feet) and I was at around 23 meters (76 feet) along a wall when I saw it.
I carefully descended and got face to face with it. There were two more behind it. Too bad my camera had been accidentally zoomed (and I had a wide-angle lens on), which explains the panning-like effect of the background. Anyway, I wanted to linger and follow the creatures but I only had a minute left before decompression! Ayun, napilitan akong umakyat. Louie, diving is really fun and it's never too late to learn . =B)
Marton_Benitez 10-07-2006, 01:46 PM Wow! :) Great shots Norman. Really beautiful :) I love the purple shirts for some reason
chuck_maceda 10-07-2006, 01:49 PM Wow!!! Nice shots Norman. Those pricey underwater cam housing/casing are sure worth if if the output are like the ones you took. I look forward to more of your sea creature pics.

I agree with you Norman, about the sea being such a wonderful place to be in. Sayang nga lang nangyari sa Guimaras, nakakapanghinayang talaga. :(
Reyno Rosete 10-07-2006, 08:25 PM Colorful and vibrant. Well done Norman.

Clemn A. Macasiano, Jr. 10-07-2006, 08:38 PM Superb shots ! How I wish I can do that in the future. If you don't mind me asking What was your camera set up ? Can you share some details such as lens / aperture / speed / focal lenght on those shots. . . . Please .... Thanks. :) :)
orlando_arcelao_jr 10-07-2006, 08:41 PM Ang galeng talaga Norman! Kahit hindi na ko sumisid, solb na ako sa photos mo! Thanks for sharing! :)
Norman_P._Aquino 10-07-2006, 08:50 PM Reyno, Clemn and Orlando, thank you. Orlando, hindi pwedeng hanggang tingin ka lang! You have to do the real thing. =B)
Clemn, I am still using an Olympus 5050 underwater in an Ikelite housing. I am also using an Ikelite DS-125 strobe and an Inon UW-100 wide-angle lens (20mm).
Most of the wide angle shots are F4, 1/100. I just vary the shutter speed depending on available light to keep the background water deep blue. If there's a sunburst, I increase the shutter speed to about 1/200 to 1/400 depending on the light. To capture the sunrays, you need to increase the shutter to about 1/400 or 1/800.
For the supermacro shots, most of these are F8 (for greater depth) and 1/80 to 1/100. Hope this helps...

Clemn, I am far from being a master. I am still learning, like the rest. Have you dived in Tubbataha? If you haven't, you should try it, it's one of the best!

Norman
Teejay Joson 10-08-2006, 08:19 PM norman, 'just visited your site. great collections.
Norman_P._Aquino 10-08-2006, 08:26 PM did you use photoshop, great shots!
Clemn, I recovered some shadows in the second turtle photo and the Napolean wrasse shot. I cropped the pattern shot. The rest were just resized and sharpened (my in-camera sharpening is -5, since I prefer sharpening using software later). That's about it. The strobe does make wonders underwater. =B)

Norman

Actually, we were scheduled for Tuba last May but something came up. So, most probably next summer. We always dive in Apo Island in Negros Oriental, Dumaguete. But, anyway great pics Norman.
