CULTURE OF PEACE
The Province of Lanao del Norte is inviting all Region X artists to join the 2008 Painting Competition. This year’s competition has a theme “CULTURE OF PEACE”. The artist is encouraged to explore and present his ideas and concept regarding the theme given. It is through this competition that we hope to change the views of all Filipinos and tourists that Lanao is a safe and peaceful place to visit and live.
1.Official entry forms are available in all Tourism offices ( all Tourism Offices in Region X ).
2008 PHOTO CONTEST
“CULTURE OF PEACE”
SUBJECT
Entries must focus on the modern day Lanao del Norte espousing the great development on peace, order, progress, social and economic awakening amongst its people.
As the pillar of the founding anniversary celebration the province, the organizers would like to promote the culture of peace as the central that is devoid of commercialism.
Subjects may include the anything about Lanao del Norte and its people that gives relevance and meaning to the theme, participants of a local event, spectators in the sidelights, or any objects of interest or art related to the theme.
All Photographs must have been taken from January 01, 2008 to June 10, 2008.
MECHANICS
The contest is open to all photographers, amateurs and professionals. There is no limit to the number of entries to be submitted.
Photographers can use either film or digital cameras. Prints submitted shall be 11x17 or 12x18 inches, without borders, and no distinguishing marks on the front or back side of the photo (like watermark of name or signature). Participants are free to choose to have their prints made.
The submitted entries must be frame-mounted, on black background (like illustration board) with display hooks at the back.
Those submitting digital entries are required to submit the:
1.RAW or original, unedited file of each photograph, along with the edited versions of the images, to be saved in a CD.
2.Those submitting entries taken with film shall also submit negatives, but if digital enhancement was done, then the digital file shall also be submitted.
Film negatives will be returned after the contest. This is to verify that the submitted entries have not been digitally manipulated beyond necessary.
All entries of each photographer, including CD and/ or negatives, shall be covered and sealed or placed inside an envelope (like an x-ray film envelope), sealed with tape. Only the photographer’s name shall be written on the outside of the brown envelope. Each photo should have the following information taped at the back: title, camera & lens used. Do not write your name at the back of the pictures.
The prints and the CDs submitted shall become the property of the organizer/s.
DIGITAL ENHANCEMENTS
Participants can digitally enhance their pictures but post-processing should be limited only to the usual darkroom techniques. Particularly, enhancements allowed shall be limited to:
1.Color correction brightness and contrast control of entire image (e.g. levels, curves); or part of it (dodging or burning) cropping, resizing (enlarging or downsizing) and image rotation.
2.The use of cloning or “healing brush” is not allowed.
3.No digital filters are to be used. No details shall be erased from (except in the case of cropping) nor added to the photograph.
4.No photo composite (digitally combining images or HDR) allowed.
CRITERIA FOR JUDGING
Entries will be judge to the following guidelines:
a.Originality- 30%
b.Uniqueness-40%
c.Over-all Impact-30%
DEADLINE OF SUBMISSION
Deadline of submission of entries shall be 5 p.m. of June 15, 2008. Submit entries at the Provincial Tourism Office, Pigcarangan, Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
AWARDING DATE AND PRIZES
Awarding shall be done on July 4, 2008 at the Mindanao Civic Center Stadium. Winners will receive the following prizes:
GRAND PRIZE P 20,000.00
SECOND PRIZE P 15,000.00
THIRD PRIZE P 10,000.00
Consolation of P 2,000.00 each for 10 entries
COPYRIGHT
Copyright of the photos will remain with the photographer, but the organizer/s, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte and the sponsoring entity/ies shall have the right to publish the pictures for promotional purposes, provided the photographers’ byline shall appear beside the pictures. Should third parties will have interest in publishing the entries, they shall contact the photographer.
