View Full Version : On Assignment Is Back Again! DPP/Caltex/MTV
nino_carandang 05-19-2008, 10:24 AM Dear DPP Members,
DPP has partnered with Chevron Texaco (Caltex) and MTV Philippines to bring you the fourth installment of On Assignment. This fourth Assignment will be tough and it will take a special breed of photographer to handle the challenge.
The MISSION:
1. To join the MTV Philippines Caravan during the second leg of its tour around Luzon. The caravan will be led by either VJ Andi Manzano or Kat Alano or Anne Curtis. The VJ who will be going with the On Assignment will be announced later. We will be part of their show that will be aired in the month of June.
2. To photograph the different churches in Luzon, specifically in the Pampanga area including a Sunken Church.
3. To climb Mount Pinatubo and photograph the crater as well as the indigenous people residing in the area.
4. To travel to Baguio and photograph the City, the strawberry fields, tourist destinations and one of Baguio's biggest mining facilities.
Dates: June 5-8, 2008
DPP will be pre-selecting One or possibly Two Team Leaders for this trip. This means we may choose up to SEVEN members from this Forum to go on the trip.
Please take notice of the dates for this trip. The trip will start on a weekday (Thursday to Sunday) so for those of you who work, you will have to file for a leave, or call in sick - but there will be evidence that you were somewhere else. Only put your name on this list if you are 100% certain you can make the dates. Because if we choose you and you suddenly back out, the On Assignment will be compromised.
This will be a very demanding trip so if you don't think you can handle it physically, don't list yourself.
This thread will only be open until May 28, 2008.
As always, to all our members who want to go ON ASSIGNMENT with DPP let us know why you want to take up this challenge.
Cezar H. Zarate, Jr. 05-19-2008, 10:36 AM This is exciting! DPP will be the one to chooses who's who?

dave_deluria 05-19-2008, 11:48 AM Interesting OP...
I'd like to give this a go for the following reasons;
- I've been to almost all these destinations mentioned (except for the mining facilities) with a DSLR and I have a grasp on how to shoot them AND do it justice.
- I have my own hours so I can make the time for this trip.
- I've been in past OA missions so I know the expectations of the magazine.
- I also lead photo OPs on my own so I am familiar with the dynamics of shooting in a group (lead shooter, backup shooter doesn't get in the way of lead shooter).
- if "we" includes Nino, I'm dying to go on a shoot with you finally :)
nino_carandang 05-19-2008, 11:57 AM thanks dave.
as for shooting and joining the 4th OA, i will be confirming my participation soon. with the upcoming release of iCreate Philippines, i will have to fix my schedule now.
donna_lee 05-19-2008, 12:00 PM I will! =b

Tammy_David 05-19-2008, 01:00 PM I want to join! **NOT**
Uy mother, my cousin works for MTV. Have you met her!!
tonymagdaraog 05-19-2008, 02:39 PM OK yes….
As soon as I read the message I was so excited to join the events,
Though I see the pressure, physical and mental fitness to take this task plus intimidation to pro photogs, I am ready to accept the challenge.
With my current status as a serious hobbyist and a microstock photographer, I want to take a more serious task and responsibility in the world of photography. My work mostly travel photos, landscape, architecture, objects and people images which I think fit into your requirement.
Currently I’m still here in Singapore schedule to be back home in Manila on the 26th May 2008, just in time for the events(OA).
Nino Estrada 05-19-2008, 03:29 PM same pitch i gave on the previous OA's, and i'll even submit RAW files too just in case. hehe
oh well i guess i'll be missing this one again, too late for me.:)
and my vote goes to Tok Paler, im sure he can deliver great pics of anne...errr travel pics.
Larry Monserate Piojo 05-19-2008, 03:37 PM Wow! the news itself is already a challenge! hehehe... pretty exciting! pitch composing... goodluck everyone!

jose_deluna 05-19-2008, 03:53 PM Can I pitch-in?

Tok Paler 05-19-2008, 04:06 PM Okay... i've composed my thoughts and here's my pitch!
Hi,
My name is Tok Paler and I am pitching myself to be a member of OA 4.
I believe that i can be an asset to the group because i carry some experience and know-how from previous OM's. Shooting with some of the finest photographers here in DPP has its share of pressure to produce stunning images and really capture the essence of the place. Though i may not be the best photographer from the bunch, i bring a fresh approach on the usual subjects.
I am willing to sacrifice school and other obligations (yeah, right!) for this trip, and i believe that this shows my dedication and my willingness to participate.
Once again, i am Tok Paler, willing and able to give myself (life, limb and camera system if need be!) in pursuit of our passion
Ronald Suello 05-19-2008, 04:12 PM I need to take up this challenge as these are my dream places in Luzon. So I'll be juiced up 24/7 and will do everything creative to make DPP proud of its decision in selecting me.
I never fail ;-) and I'm available on those dates!
raul_echivarre 05-19-2008, 04:22 PM ah, what a waste. i would've wanted to see pinatubo again. last time i was there, i was with dave deluria and company. while we had lots of fun, my photos sucked as i was new to the hobby then. lotsa blown highlights :)
i would've wanted to make a pitch but my itbayat trip next week has eaten up all my leaves. i'm down to like a day of vacation leaves :(
to those who'll be chosen... freakin' lucky :)
Larry Monserate Piojo 05-19-2008, 04:33 PM Okay... i've composed my thoughts and here's my pitch!.

what number do i dial to vote for your pitch?
Fat Deriquito 05-19-2008, 05:37 PM Pick me! Pick me!
I’m a seriously excited DPP newbie.
I'm a super-newbie in DPP and a slightly-newbie to power techniques in D-photography. But my passion for photography is, uhm, moderator level!
I want to experience shooting with a group.
I’ve shoot in some events like weddings, parties, and corporate events as a tag along. But I haven't had the chance to shoot with a group with more than 2-3 members yet - only the official photographer, the video guy, and me, the tag along.
I’d love to go farther than Los Baños and Makati.
I haven't gone literally far with my slr - not anywhere farther than these two I mentioned. But I shoot what I see and a lot of things interest me. The forest in Makiling, parade in Makati, sunset and people along Manila Bay, even spring onions at home make pretty good subjects for me. Ubos na ang onions sa bahay... I’d really love to shoot out of town naman – new places, new things, new people, new route!
I grew up walking, hiking, and swimming in Los Baños - physical activity is a daily for me. Lastly, my boss is in the US so I can take a leave.
Pick me! Pick me! I want my MTV.
otep_benavides 05-19-2008, 06:03 PM one hell of a canned thought :D

Tok, did you need to pitch to be part of the 7 others? You should be Team Leader already!!!!
God luck, folks!!
Gid Ferrer 05-19-2008, 08:44 PM Here's mine... Hope it works this time.
Ive been a DPP member for 1 year and a couple of months now... And im an addict! Ive been addicted to the forum ever since that is. My passion is growing, and my hunger for shooting is even more, specially for travel photography. For the last 6 months, ive been with the best photographers of DPP. Learned from them, shot with them, Broke backed with one of em.:D (just kidding!)
I know im still continuing to learn the craft, but i can assure you i will give my best to produce the best images i possibly can. Ive had several experiences shooting at different locations, on different weather conditions.
Ive learned a lot in the past year, and im more confident now than my other pitches on the past O.A's.
I have my own business so no worries about the time schedule. I love MTV, but i love Anne Curtis even more.:)
What im trying to say is, DPP should choose me because i know i can do the job right!
Go Vortex! Cheers!
Regards,
Gid Ferrer
Erick Dantoc 05-19-2008, 08:46 PM I could say that I fit very well in this assignment because of my 3 major hobbies namely Music, Mountaineering and Photography.
MTV is one of my favorite channel because MUSIC is my life. I watch music channel a lot especially when I want to update my ears on current music. I miss playing with my band back in college but I never miss good music because of MTV. Rock On!
I love to shoot the beauty of churches here in the Philippines. There are lot of stories behind the every church that photographer should capture. My most memorable church tour was in Iloilo. They have the most beautiful churches here in our country. Ooops! Not to mention my 1st church tour in Central Luzon (Bulacan, Tarlac, Pampangga).
Mountaineering will always be my number 1 sports. I lost count on how many times I climbed various mountains here in Luzon. I always wanted to go back in Mt. Pinatubo because of it unique beauty. I can be a help in any member of OA4 because trekking / camping is my forte.
Baguio? Sigh! I have lots of memories here in my favorite city. I visit Baguio twice a year to give myself a good relaxation. I almost got a job in a semicon company here because I always wanted to stay here. Baguio is the entry point whenever I climb Mt. Pulag (I trek Mt. Pulag every year since 2004). I can walk in Downtown Baguio eyes close without losing direction. Hahaha! Right now, I am currently busy with my own travel blog. Tour and shoot once in a while with 2 of my favorite travel / landscape photographers (one is a member of previous OA and one is famous for his travel blog). I am ready to take a leave on those dates. :)
Aly_Reyes 05-19-2008, 08:51 PM If I may, my pitch for possible participation in this OA:
In humble retrospect, having organized some memorable EBs for DPP (including the fabled Church Tour 2007 and the last crusade in Angono Rizal EB), the journey of this never ending quest for adventure can be continued in this trek to the north. Perhaps a chance to participate in this assignment can fulfill a dream of forever painting one's immortality in the pages of DPP history.
And to hope that I have not fully consumed my VL for this year after spending 6 weeks in America.
Alas, perchance to dream...
Princess Jarlyn Young 05-19-2008, 11:40 PM let me also give this a try.. :)
Recently, i've been to Zambales with my good friends, survived climbing on the slippery slope, didn't injure myself too much and my camera. hihih... got some good shots out of them. but seriously speaking..
Im very much interested joining this OA, first, these places has been photographed several times.. most especially Baguio.. So it would be a challenge to me on how i would show all of you that even if a place has been photographed a billion times, the beauty is still there..
Second, I'm looking forward not only photographing the landscapes but the VJ's as well. Since they will be part of the team.
Third, being able to learn some tips about lighting and pano.. i would be able to apply them here.
Fourth, probably another challenge for me is, how i would incorporate Caltex and MTV in my shots.
Challenge is what brings out the creativity of a photographer. :)
GOOD LUCK to ALL!!!!

michael_cawayan 05-20-2008, 12:25 AM here's my pitch:
1. It's my birthday on the 7th, so this would be the greatest material gift that i will ever receive(seriously).
2. I've only been into one EB and photoshoot here in DPP, so this will be my greatest photoshoot of all time!
3. I'm a musician and I would really love to tell Andi, Kat and Anne that MTV needs to play real music again. (no offense to those who love MTV right now)
4. I'm not a catholic but I've always admired the physical beauty of their church buildings.
5. Did I mention that it's the greatest gift that i will ever receive for the rest of my life? ;-)
Lloyd San Diego 05-20-2008, 12:35 AM ehem ehem...
test mic!
1 - 2
check check!
here's my pitch:
Ever since I started this hobby, I have been fortunate enough to shoot, learn and develop my skills with the best landscape photographers in this forum. Photography has fed my hunger to travel. I have been to places I never imagined I could visit one day. From the east coast to the west coast of Luzon, to jaywalking across a busy interchange during a night shoot, to standing on the ledge of some skyscraper and almost getting myself blottered and jailed on further night shoots around the metro, my passion for this hobby has grown (and continues to grow). Mt. Pinatubo is at the top of my list of dream places to shoot. I have no trouble when it comes to hiking and sweating it out in the outdoors.
Having the opportunity to bond/mingle with a celebrity such as (insert name of VJ) will definitely make the assignment rewarding and worthwhile for me.
I have risked shooting under rain and furious rogue waves, three days of not taking a bath and surviving a trip with only chocolate flavored magic flakes as for nutrition. I am used to difficult and tedious shoots (a veteran of the various OM trips I’ve undertaken). I have never won any contest or award for photography and I neither refer to myself as a newbie nor a pro. But if you guys give me a chance to join this trip, I will definitely deliver the best photographs I could.
ryan_tanganco 05-20-2008, 01:04 AM \"Pitch\" watching is fun:D
*nods* hehe pitching has always been half the fun
jiggie.alejandrino 05-20-2008, 02:15 AM According to Nino, "This fourth Assignment will be tough and it will take a special breed of photographer to handle the challenge."...
am really up for it! Getting down and dirty is what am craving for. This would be the perfect opportunity to experience that, and learn what true photography is all about and kick this nasty spoiled habit! (as pictured below) :) :) :)

This OA#4 really struck my attention when I read the second part of the mission! PHOTOGRAPHING CHURCHES IN LUZON. A few years back, during my college days a group of friends and I went from Manila to Ilocos Sur, stopping at every distinct church we saw and just taking in the sites. Too bad at that time I was only armed with a digital video camera. I've been yearning to do a that trip similar to that all over again, only this time, I would have in my bag a DSLR.
I would like to take on this challenge by simply saying, I am not trigger happy. I love to take in the sites and get a feel for the mood of the place before I try my best to capture it.
This assignment is something I would desperately want to be a part off.
A little OT, To the mods... in case am not chosen would it still be possible to tag along? Hahahaha! Wouldnt mind paying my own way, bring my own transportation, and I can bring my boy to carry all the stuff and make us payong! hahahaha! :) :) :) (desperation is definitely in the air!) Good thing this is not face to face or I might have to resort to getting on my hands and knees, begging! hahaha!
Tok Paler 05-20-2008, 02:24 AM Okay... i've composed my thoughts and here's my pitch!
Hi,
My name is Tok Paler and I am pitching myself to be a member of OA 4.
Once again, i am Tok Paler, willing and able to give myself (life, limb and camera system if need be!) in pursuit of our passion
if you like Tok Paler to join the OA, the numbers are 1-866-DPP-01, that's 1-866-377-01. Remember, these are 1-866 numbers not 1-800 numbers so please dial carefully.
Stay tuned after the break!
.....yes, i've been watching the American Idol season marathon for 3 straight days...
denmark dolores 05-20-2008, 03:18 AM Here's my pitch --- straight like a 98mph fastball from the mound to the homeplate, caught perfectly by the backstop. :)
- When I started photography, they all changed --- skyscrapers and buildings looked different on every angle, a kid's eyes is not a simple stare anymore, people on the streets are not just passers-by, rallies are not nuissance, bridges and flyovers are not for vehicles only, studios are not for ID pictures and passports alone, a simple smile means the world to me and the darkness of the night is the light I enjoy.
- DPP addict. Totally. I just joined last Jan 2008 and already I'm reaching 1,000 posts. Not because I'm wasting posts in useless thoughts but most of them were dedicated in setting-up the organized and the not-so-organized EBs and shoots, see The Lakbay Bukopie (http://digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=14369) and Team Renegade (http://digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=14549) threads and etc. I'm a major player in setting-up our group EBs. Loving every bit of it.
- I once envisioned myself a sports photographer but after seeing the works of Sir Jay Jallorina and the rest of the crew, I started investing in gears suited for landscape photography. I may have 0.01% of his talent but I know I can get there, on top of game, with continuous learning and the unending passion for taking photographs.
- I'm still a newbie but I know what it takes to capture great images. It will truly be an honor, just like being knighted by the Queen, if I get the chance to join the master photographers of DPP in this OA #4. I represent the whole newbie community, I bring along the pride and joy of each one of us, knowing that whatever I learn from this experience will be shared with them.
- I'd like to show the world how a camera they call an entry level dslr (Nikon D40) can perform like those high-end cameras. With the right attitude, composition, imagination and willingness --- I believe I can pull it off.
- Already filed VL for these dates. I am willing to beg for my manager and my manager's manager to permit me to join if needed. I can do an alay-lakad from home to office just to show my sincerity.
- The physical demands of this shoot won't be an issue. Basketball, baseball, gym workout and doing fitness boxing too. (Pacquiao! :D) Already experienced trekking Mt. Banahaw and the wild rivers of Daraitan. I eat a healthy diet, well, sometimes.
- Lastly, I gas up with Caltex everyday before going to work. I watch MTV coz I prefer watching the video only with no lyrics below the screen. :D
Sorry if it's too long. I just had an overflow of thoughts here. :)
Thank you Sir Niño for this thread, sure helps us to strive for more in this passion of ours.
John Jolbe 05-20-2008, 04:36 AM \"Pitch\" watching is fun:D

Naks...
Aly_Reyes 05-20-2008, 08:31 AM ehem ehem...
test mic!
1 - 2
check check!
here's my pitch:
Lloyd, I think rather than the shoot, its more of the mingling with the VJs that motivates you to join. hehehehe....:Dum::D
nino_carandang 05-20-2008, 10:19 AM http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3067/2505392853_b6558232b4.jpg
on a side note, this was what otep, spam, the paler brothers and i were talking about last night when shooting golf tournaments for The Punk.
i'm actually trying to back read, where's ka pepe's pitch?
I want to join! **NOT**
Uy mother, my cousin works for MTV. Have you met her!!
mother, no haven't seen anyone that looks like you in MTV.
danpagulayan 05-20-2008, 10:20 AM Nino, Ka Pepe's short pitch is here:
http://www.digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showpost.php?p=404374&postcount=49
"Can I pitch-in?
My reasons...
- I want to try how good the D3 and D300 combo for an OA Trip
- I'm ready to submerge my new lenses underwater (if necessary)"
kencarpio 05-20-2008, 10:38 AM wow, this one's for you, KEN... this is the one you've been waiting for: VJ's, churches, the streets of Baguio, etc...
i know you can free yourself on that dates! so go for it! GO Ken! GO KEN!!!
bring everything you got: YOU and your cheap camera!
make your pitch na! everyone's rooting for you here (silently)...
jerwinsanjuan 05-20-2008, 10:38 AM Sir Nino, I have two lines for you:
1. How are they gonna feel good about themselves (photographers) if they don't have a noob around?
2. They (photographer) could use my luck.
I hope this is entertaining. Not serious. Not ready. Maybe on the next OA mission. Cheers!
chrisbanez 05-20-2008, 10:40 AM Dear DPP Members,
DPP has partnered with Chevron Texaco (Caltex) and MTV Philippines to bring you the fourth installment of On Assignment.
OT: whoah andi :) she's my churchmate!

joelhgarcia 05-20-2008, 03:29 PM If I may, my pitch for possible participation in this OA:
In humble retrospect, having organized some memorable EBs for DPP (including the fabled Church Tour 2007 and the last crusade in Angono Rizal EB), the journey of this never ending quest for adventure can be continued in this trek to the north. Perhaps a chance to participate in this assignment can fulfill a dream of forever painting one's immortality in the pages of DPP history.
And to hope that I have not fully consumed my VL for this year after spending 6 weeks in America.
Alas, perchance to dream...
Eto pala Pitch mo si Aly! - This OA4 is tailored made for you. Weve been into various EBs before, your the first DPP member ive met in Ayala Westgrove. Hope we could shoot in this OA together.:)

Fat Deriquito 05-20-2008, 05:52 PM I'm extremely hesitant in posting another pitch because I'm a newbie here. But I want this. So here goes another pitch:
I'm not geared and I'm no pro.
My camera bag simply carries a D80, a lot of creativity, and real passion for photography.
Why me? Why not?

Paul Quiambao 05-20-2008, 07:30 PM Here’s my pitch:
At a young age of 17, my passion for photography transcends the boundaries of maturity and experience. I believe that age does not matter to be good in photography. Because photography is not just a hobby, it is my life.
With my camera, I am at peace. With it, the natural marvels of living are captured by my eyes as if it is the air that I breathe. With it, the world is like but a small playground wherein I am safe and free from troubles. It is the most rewarding experience and gift I possess.
Photography brings me to places beyond my imaginations and dreams. Being a photographer for roughly just a year, I have learned that pictures touch people's lives carrying me right at the heart of every action and moment. Most importantly, I have met people which I consider my friends for life.
I believe I have what it takes to capture great images and pull this tough challenge. Traveling to Baguio, photographing the churches of Luzon, climbing Mt. Pinatubo and meeting the indigenous people residing in the area, and being with the MTV VJ’s and great photographers of DPP are all but just icing on a cake, for the real challenge lies in what I can offer and do. With that in mind, I am ready to give my all for this challenge because of my passion and commitment.
With my ability to look in different perspectives, I, Paul Quiambao, am ready to gear up for this challenge with my digital eyes on June 5-8.
P.S. I watch MTV to catch up on the latest music with no disturbing lyrics on it, and my family relies on Caltex because of its efficient fueling of our car's engine. Thanks MTV and Caltex.
Here’s my Portfolio: http://www.parq17.multiply.com :)

wow! almost everyone's rooting for me! woohooo :) thanks, guys...
i would love to shoot with all of you guys, but unfortunately, it's not possible.
let the judgedredds fill-up the other slots....
kencarpio 05-20-2008, 07:53 PM I could say that I fit very well in this assignment because of my 3 major hobbies namely Music, Mountaineering and Photography.

sonnyadriano 05-20-2008, 11:57 PM Here’s my pitch:
With my ability to look in different perspectives, I, Paul Allyson Quiambao, am ready to gear up for this challenge with my digital eyes on June 5-8.
P.S. I watch MTV to catch up on the latest music with no disturbing lyrics on it, and my family relies on Caltex because of its efficient fueling of our car's engine. Thanks MTV and Caltex.
Here’s my Portfolio: http://www.parq17.multiply.com (http://www.parq17.multiply.com/) :)
I vote for Paul Quiambao!
The Wonder Boy! in such a young age his achievements are astonishing.. Passion of Photography is like a burning fire! Good luckl to you bro!
Jay2Cenon_Tarun 05-21-2008, 12:26 AM Is there a requirement for this.. I mean an UWA and filters etc?:D
I only have the basic.. ahahaha..
jay jallorina 05-21-2008, 12:40 AM Is there a requirement for this.. I mean an UWA and filters etc?:D
I only have the basic.. ahahaha..
gear requirement? somebody went on assignment using a kit lens. t'was in boracay. during OA1, i didn't have any filters.
what's important is you have the correct mindset and expectations. make a good pitch, something that speaks of what you can concretely bring to the team, why you think you're the particular photographer who can make this assignment a success. be specific lang.
goodluck!

Living “independently” from the beginning when my Father demise in this world at age of 5.
Challenging the world by working as a Layout Artist in a Printing Press with P75.00 a day as my first job and relocate after a year in Manila; to create a new path as a Graphic Artist in a Photography Studio.
God is good as He open the world of Photography to me by giving a chance to be a Back-up Photographer in my Company as a Wedding Album Artist.

Larry Monserate Piojo 05-21-2008, 11:17 AM I guess I should give this a try as well... :D:D:D
errr...
Ok here goes! Goodluck to me! :D:D:D
I had been shooting for quite sometime now. And I had been through some dangerous places and difficult situations just to capture stories in my images. When asked what would be my ultimate destination if given a chance, I would honestly say, somewhere where there is chaos, or war, or tragedy. Rather weird, but I wanted to show people how these situations affect everyone especially innocent ones and maybe, just maybe there’s something else we can do about it for a change. And I think, with this characteristic I have, I am up for every single bit of challenge this mission is about to offer. And this OA4, I'm sure, would be the best tool for me to test not only how I bring life stories to a single frame but how to develop my own character as a photographer as well.
I have no other special abilities to prove and not much special accessories to bring with me, just me, my camera (I lost my cheapo tripod in HK :D), my love for bringing life stories in my images, and my DPP friends for inspiration. And if given a chance to be a part of the team for this mission, I can’t promise you anything but meaningful and heartfelt photographs.
Thank you very much.

Nice pitch there Master street photog Larry
benjietiongco 05-21-2008, 11:36 AM Please delete.
benjietiongco 05-21-2008, 11:37 AM before the pitch. what time on june 5? (i hope it's after lunch because it's my last day of class - 9 am to 12 nn - and then i'm free after that!) - if not possible, there's always a next time. c:
any light shed on this? c:
but anyway. here's my pitch.
I don't have the best gears here but I can maximize the use of a single camera and one lens. Speaking of the assignment - I'm confident that I can do it as I already experienced hiking for hours just to get a perfect shot of a waterfall, spelunking with gear to take a shot at the heart of a cave, living in an island for a day without any modern human facility just to shoot it. I think I uploaded some shots here.
And the shoot in Pampanga and Mt. Pinatubo - my edge is I'm Kapampangan. I speak the local language and talking with the locals is somewhat a plus when you're a photographer. Both parents are from there and other than the honor of shooting my homeland, it will be meaningful for me to share to my people the shots of the now silent volcano that destroyed a lot of properties and lives before.
This is Benjie Tiongco, more than willing to face the challenge.

lally_eleazar 05-21-2008, 12:42 PM okay...
pitch? i'm going to give it a try... nothing to lose just a few minutes of my posting time :)
i'm interested.
i'm very new in photography.
i'm very stong-willed.
i'm quite strong and tough - breastfed my babies, raised them on my own until now that i started photography.
i've travelled a lot.
i make failing at something a difficult task.
very competitive.
very limited gear just my sony A700 and a couple of good lenses.
i live just once, so i better write this one pitch who knows i might just get the cut.
Allan Barredo 05-21-2008, 02:24 PM Oh high and mighty (and slippery) Banana King, pick me! (I read somewhere we have to pay tribute to the Banana king first)
I have never:
1. been to previous OAs
2. met in person the big names in DPP (but I know some of them online, enough to laugh at the “banana jokes” :D )
but I:
1.am a seasoned traveler.
2.know what it takes to travel and shoot for several days while maintaining quality of output.
3.know how to shoot with variety, not sticking to a single norm.
4.want to give back to the magazine where I got most of my magic from, granting that I have it. :)
Please feel free to take a peek at my blog and my gallery.

My pitch ^_^
Iam Ansbert, fun to be with lots of jokes and story to share in my few adventures in life. trans("Makulit :D"). and Lovable person :D
Iam a traveller before being a Mountaineer and now Loves Photography...
You can judge my feelings thru my photo ^_^..
I can stand and endure any challenges and burdern hehe, cuz I was born poor .. trans ("Mahirap pero may kaya :D dahil sa tiyaga").
My passion for photography can be called camaraderie and frenship...
But my real Intent is this "I shoot, I travel, to capture Images that I want the world to see, What I see"
Thanks,

:D:D:D
mic_narra 05-21-2008, 03:17 PM uhh...
here's my pitch..
Travel, Landscape, Portrait and Events. These are the kinds in photography that I love.
All these 4 are in this "On Assignment 4"!
Passion is what I have inside of me and this what keeps me going in this hobby... need I say more?!
I'm not a pro or master in the world of photography but I'll try to bring out the best images and stories behind the photos if I'm chosen. I'll dedicate myself and do whatever task is given. Documenting this event will sure not be easy as we would know it... this is a very challenging assignment and I have prepare myself to take this challenge.
During our Ilocos Trip Caravan, I was able to test my strength and stamina... so trekking and hiking is not a problem for me. Mt. Pinatubo is one of my dream place to shoot, as well as, the strawberry farm in Baguio (I already went there last Feb but I didn't have the chance to shoot the farm).
Shooting with some great photographers from DPP is a great experience too. Learning new things in photography from them is a great opportunity. Meeting new friends is also what i love. Building relationship with fellow shooters and the whole staff will sure be an experience to remember. As well as, sharing the same passion, insights, experiences, stories and laughters (and tears?).
Having a celebrity in this assignment would make this event more fun!
My thanks goes to..
DPP, for opening this kind of opportunity.
MTV, being one of the coolest TV station in the planet. :) "Music is love. Love is MTV. MTV Rocks!"
Lastly to Caltex, for believing in us and sharing the passion.
More power to you guys! God speed!

Tantin Tolledo 05-21-2008, 04:19 PM pwede ba magpadala ng link to a Video of self promotion to be included in this run of On-Assignment?
If yes, my GF is raring to fire up the DV cam to record one (also as a practice for the video audition for ARAsia)
Thanks
edwinbejer 05-21-2008, 06:24 PM Hi,
I haven't tried doing a real pitch before, this'll be the first time and I don't really know how to do this. So here goes...
My name is Edwin Bejer. I've started photography way back March 2007 but had my 1st DSLR last June 2007.
My reasons why I should be chosen:
-I love landscapes ! I'll climb mountains, cross rivers and seas, just to get my shot. I'll wake up early before sunset to capture the beauty of the light. I'll stay up even after sunset to have a glance of the fading light. Every destination, I try to think of ways on how to improve my shots for I want to be really good at it.
-I believe I represent the D40 users and prove that even an entry-level DSLR can come up with great shots. That the camera we possess can be at par with the higher-end ones
-I have been to Pinatubo before (unfortunately, I wasn't into photography yet that time) being hiking as one of my hobbies. I would really love to go back there and capture the scenes which I have dreamed of capturing since I started photography.
-Baguio is one of my most frequented places outside of NCR. But I haven't found the time to capture its beauty yet. I would love to be given the opportunity to show the world the grandeur of Baguio.
-I'm a low profile and goal-oriented photographer. Once I have set my mind on a shoot, nothing will stop me (not even a typhoon nor a landslide). I can also set aside any distractions and will always keep my eye set on my viewfinder.
Hope this will be enough to convince you guys.
Thanks and goodluck to the other applicants !

i don't mind tantin.
Spam Jalandoni 05-21-2008, 06:56 PM Here's my pitch:
I'm spam, some of my friends call me spamy and i can be all that you want me to be. i shoot sports
and portraits primarily but having this opportunity to shoot churches, strawberry fields, and pinatubo will be a blast. being able to shoot with the creme dela creme of dpp pushes me to be the best in my shots.
I can be a life raft when we need to cross deep rivers :D
trekking pintaubo would be one achivement for me.
plus i can easily go down the slopes of pinatubo. i just need to roll down :D
i haven't been to baguio for the longest time. i think i can give a different perspective on the place.
with either andi, kat or anne around the oa will be a blast. they add meaning to a beautiful photograph :D
oh and with me around, nobody gets left behind (coz i'll be at the end of the pack :D)
salbabida at bodyguard all rolled in one :D i'm your guy :D
danpagulayan 05-21-2008, 06:57 PM Now, we're seeing more pitches here. Lots of talent to choose from.
Good luck, folks!!!!
Nino Estrada 05-21-2008, 11:43 PM @ winston and dan - i miss you guys already, thanks for the support yeah i just wanna feel involved even if it's just on this thread.:)
@ aly - you're the most qualified photog who gave a pitch in here! i guess im still waiting for it to sink in, that....:Scared:
guys keep posting why they should pick you... this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and all you have to do is to let them know why you deserve a slot.:)
CARLOFONCECA 05-21-2008, 11:45 PM creating and reading a good pitch is already half the fun. what more if ud get lucky enough to be chosen. cant wait to see who'll be the chosen few and their promising ouputs. for now, this thread will be the nearest i can get to be a part of an OA team. i know someday, when time is ripe, il be ready, il be outfitted but for now i'll take the back seat and wait. best of luck to all!
mhaan_san_roque 05-21-2008, 11:47 PM Here's my pitch --- straight like a 98mph fastball from the mound to the homeplate, caught perfectly by the backstop.
Thank you Sir Niño for this thread, sure helps us to strive for more in this passion of ours.
wow..what a winning pitch CAPTAIN DENMARK DOLORES! ... i especially love ur quote on this one....

go CAPTAIN!
mhaan_san_roque 05-21-2008, 11:54 PM Here’s my pitch:
Here’s my Portfolio: http://www.parq17.multiply.com (http://www.parq17.multiply.com/) :)
i'm voting for paul too... great photographer at such a very young age...
go WONDER BOY!:Grin::Grin::Grin:
kentamayo 05-22-2008, 12:01 AM Here's mine:
Megapixels? Who needs them! I've got 4 but I still manage to take beautiful photos.
I like going wide where i shouldn't.
I like going long when it's not needed.
I like thinking outside the box even when I'm on the outside.
I like doing my own thing even though everyone is doing it.
I like bending the rules to acheive my objective, but not too much to my own benefit.
When I have an opinion I make it heard, I can compromise even if you don't agree with me. People think I'm no one pretending to be someone, or someone pretending to be no one.
But I only have to please the most Important person, myself.
Why pick me? I dunno... because I am me.
Ken T.
erwinjasonmendoza 05-22-2008, 01:36 AM here's mine :)

4. i love to travel, the outdoors (been to pulag, halcon, pinatubo).
5. i'm willing to learn from my team mates.
6. i'm ready to face the challenge.
7. i would consider this the greatest adventure before finally tying the knot in 3 months :)

nino_carandang 05-22-2008, 08:00 AM Isnt Caltex also responsible for the Star Photo thingy???? are we sure that no ones being abused here???
that issue has already been resolved a few days ago. we sat down with caltex and revised the rules and FAQ. and besides, we won't allow that to happen.
the shooting star contest is just for a 5x7 desktop calendar. it wasn't crafted to replace the commercial photographer.
nino_carandang 05-22-2008, 07:53 PM anyone else who's up for the challenge?
Jeff Vergara 05-22-2008, 08:20 PM anyone else who's up for the challenge?
if i'm joining, can you cover my plane ticket expenses? :D goodluck to all!
Bong Tan 05-23-2008, 01:25 PM Hey, this is a very good opportunity and challenge to take. I'd like to volunteer and join too since I'm free on those dates. I have a lot of experience with regards to photographing people (including celebrities) which could come in handy for this trip. You may check my website: www.photoartist.multiply.com (http://www.photoartist.multiply.com). I've been to Baguio a couple of times and have experienced photographing churches here in the Phils.
Jay2Cenon_Tarun 05-23-2008, 05:14 PM WOW! :):Grin::D
This is a great opportunity so might as well try..
Here it goes:
We all have the passion, the desire to be good, if not excellent in photography.
Most of us are in good physique for the trip. Others have the gears and experience while others don't.
I want to be part of the trip because
1. I want to learn
2. I want to see my limits, if not to where I can extend my skills with this trip
3. I intend to give my best or exceed it
4. and simply because I enjoy challenges!
Jay Jay Cenon B Tarun, GO AHEAD MAKE MY DAY! :D
nino_carandang 05-23-2008, 05:44 PM keep em coming.
Vic Rosales 05-23-2008, 08:00 PM This looks like an interesting trip. Good luck to the participants and more power to DPP.
MonicaCalimbas 05-24-2008, 02:34 AM hmmmm... i've been reading through this thread since the very day it was posted and for the past few days, i've been mustering up the courage to make a pitch.. so here it goes..
i'm monique calimbas from davao city. i just got serious in photography for just a few months now (i know! still very new) but i can really say that i've found myself through photography (that comes from someone who has taken ballet, piano, dance, etc lessons).
I find a deep sense of calm every time I try to capture the beauty that surrounds me.
I want to be part of the trip because:
it's a great learning opportunity i don't want to pass me by.
why you should pick me:
1. i'm new and raw. I will learn a lot from this experience.
2. i'm available on those dates and very much willing to fly to manila just to join.. :D
3. i'm young and healthy. i can take the physical, emotional and mental stress of this challenge.
4. i'm a trooper.. i mingle well with others.
5. i love travelling and the outdoors...
come on come on DPP! make this summer, one of my best ever! hahahaha :D
John Jolbe 05-24-2008, 02:45 AM anyone else who's up for the challenge?
I really love too... maybe Bella Luce can cover airfare ticket...

JohnLeonardBatongbakal 05-24-2008, 03:23 AM Dear DPP Members,
DPP has partnered with Chevron Texaco (Caltex) and MTV Philippines to bring you the fourth installment of On Assignment.
As always, to all our members who want to go ON ASSIGNMENT with DPP let us know why you want to take up this challenge.
just reposted this so new posters will see without going back to the last/first page.
MonicaCalimbas 05-24-2008, 12:32 PM haha... aww girl.. hehehe... ur so cute!

Franz A.D. Morales 05-24-2008, 02:09 PM With nothing to lose and everything to gain, here's my no-frills, straight to the point pitch...
My name is Franz A.D. Morales. I have long wanted to travel just for the sake of taking photographs, but time and resources have held me back. My shooting has always been restricted within the confines of the metro, save for a handful of out-of-town "business" trips. But these trips prove too short, all-work-no-play affairs that leave me with just a handful of snapshots, no photographs.
Enter OA: a once-in-a-lifetime chance to partake in a whirlwind tour of Northern Luzon, where the purpose of it all is to take photographs. Lovely!
If chosen, I don't promise to outdo the other photographers, (which is really impossible since the names who have pitched are some of the finest photographers around), but what I do promise, is deliver - to the best of my abilities - quality photographs of places and people I have long since wanted to take that my person can produce.
My name is Franz A.D. Morales. I am a photographer, musician and driver to my wife. DPP, MTV and Caltex? Perfect.
kencarpio 05-24-2008, 02:34 PM go Franz!!! perfect!!!
we can shoot together....
Franz A.D. Morales 05-24-2008, 02:40 PM Hahaha nice ken! but let's not count our chickens til we get there.... hahahaha
Erick Dantoc 05-24-2008, 02:44 PM Ken,
OM nalang tayo let's include Franz. hehe!
kencarpio 05-24-2008, 03:11 PM @ erick:
uu nga! OM na lang...
@franz:
let's count our eggs, instead.... :))
Marlon Adsuara 05-24-2008, 09:17 PM Whew! This is cool! Someday.... I'll pitch also...
Good Luck to all DPP members to be selected... make us all proud!
JonDexterTan 05-24-2008, 10:18 PM oh this would be great if i can join the team. i desperately need a good excuse for a break from work and um... where is mt. pinatubo again? hehe seriously, it would be an adventure to shoot for DPP. :D
danpagulayan 05-24-2008, 10:52 PM My name is Franz A.D. Morales. I am a photographer, musician and driver to my wife. DPP, MTV and Caltex? Perfect.
Vive le Franz!!!!
Good luck to all who made a pitch!!!

bernard billedo 05-25-2008, 12:20 AM I just canceled my flight today and the rest of my gear is on its way here. :D
Paul Quiambao 05-25-2008, 11:12 AM I'll just ask..shoulder ba ng DPP ung food, travel and lodging accommodations? :)

Nice one Franz...perfect pitch
Good Luck guys....
bernard billedo 05-25-2008, 11:30 AM These are the reasons why DPP should pick me as one of the photographers for this OA:
I don't need to apply for a VL, I just quit my job!
The prospect of being able to shoot with Nino is just too hard to resist.
I can take the rigors of traveling (I recently travelled to Dinapigue, Isabela in 20 hours- -- 12 of them in bumpy and dusty roads across Quirino and Aurora provinces.)
I can hike for miles without breaking a sweat.
I'm not only a photographer but I can also a porter and a yayo (for the VJs of course)
If Lloyd will be chosen, I'll bring a sun dress, make him wear it and he'll be my model.
And for the record, I'm only joining because of the shoot.
jay jallorina 05-25-2008, 11:39 AM ok bernard.......
you just, how do i say this?
"ginulo mo ang listahan!"
hahaha
JonDexterTan 05-25-2008, 07:05 PM pitch: having no old churches good enough to photograph where i live, it would be something else to have a point of view of someone with no or little experience in photographing churches -- imagine the excitement and enthusiasm and the spontaneity of the photos you'll get. i've climbed mt. apo. my hiking shoes are on it's last breaths, but up for one more hike (besides, i need the exercise). getting in the team would also mean a break from being holed up here in tandag (surigao del sur) alone (luckily with my macbook). i also am an early riser (however that much counts) :D in in in!
danpagulayan 05-25-2008, 07:32 PM ...
I don't need to apply for a VL, I just quit my job!
....
:D:D:D
As they say in the vernacular, "ang trabaho, istorbo sa pag-kokodak!!!" (trans: work gets in the way of photography)
Wow. with the variety of pitches I've seen, it must be getting tougher to choose the team members.
Paul Quiambao 05-26-2008, 01:31 PM Sir I already have my parental consent, do I need to post the scanned paper here?

Momon Baula 05-26-2008, 08:01 PM Its nice to see big corporations like Caltex giving back to its customers via experiences like this and i've always admired their support of the International Coastal Cleanup day, its what I call corporate sensibility.
My pitch--
1. I'm from Pampanga and i've never been to Mt. Pinatubo (though it did cover our house in ash). This will also be an opportunity to see & photograph the old churches in the region.
2. I always go to baguio city but have never been to a strawberry field and the only mine i've seen is mines view.
3. I enjoy road trips!! Call me kaladkarin..:-) and I've never been on a trip like this. I've been wanting a trip like this and it will be fun with a group of like minded photographers.
4. To hopefully share as much as I will take from this experience.
5. I want to be on MTV!!
6. My photography skill has been honed by having a camera with me all the time (as in, ALL the time) having started on a 2MP Kodak P&S and slowly moved up to a Fuji DSLR, and taking in all the lessons & tips from people whose work I admire. Hopefully you'll give this DPP newbie a chance.
Nono Felipe 05-26-2008, 09:37 PM Here's my short but hopefully meaningful pitch:
I've never shot churches, I've never shot strawberry fields. I've never been up Pinatubo, and I've never been on MTV. Fact is, for the past five years I've shot nothing but sports. From basketball to football, from fencing to body building. I'm itching to shoot new subjects and the opportunity to be in the caravan is much welcome. My Aperture library does welcome the change in subjects too - it is already bored with basketball photos.
Who knows, maybe I can lend my sports-shooting expertise to the horses in up in Baguio or to the 4x4 drive up Pinatubo. ;-)
nino_carandang 05-27-2008, 09:23 AM How I would love to, pero
1. If I join, and my GF sees me with the beautiful VJ's ---- I'm DEAD.
2. If I file a leave for other reasons and they see me on this show, then my boss will make sure that I'm --- DOUBLE DEAD.
3. My life without photography would be so dead anyway, so sign ....... me ...... (waiting for VL approval)
tantin, where's the video?
nino_carandang 05-27-2008, 03:23 PM OK BOYS AND GIRLS!
Caltex has increased the number of participants to 13. We will be riding Miguel Vecin's Digiprint Bus to our destinations also. The announcement of the final 13 will be made tomorrow afternoon.
Ronald Suello 05-27-2008, 03:28 PM yey, lucky 13!
congrats in advance!
denmark dolores 05-27-2008, 03:52 PM We will be riding Miguel Vecin's Digiprint Bus to our destinations also.
Congratulations in advance to the Lucky 13 who'll get selected! (Hoping to be part of it. :))
You're in for one comfy ride on that bus! We rented that during our Lakbay Bukopie EB and it was sure fun! The lounge at the back is something to look forward to! I hope the driver is Mang Fellie as well, uber talented driver. :D
jay jallorina 05-27-2008, 03:58 PM 13?? hahaha....its going to be a super long OA article then! :D
