I would personally choose the S3 IS. It is newer, and has a lot more possibilities for accessories. Althought fujis are also great cameras. I had some Fujis also, user friendliness, lamang ang canon.

Another great feature of the canon is the fill-in flash for backlit subjects.

Another point to consider is the memory card. It would be much cheaper to use the Canon, kasi mas accessible yung extra memory. Ilan lang gumagamit the XD Card.

Bonus features ng Canon yung flip out LCD! It will really help you compose your shots!

Good luck!

Eric, are your options limited to these 2 only? Have you considered the Sony R1? :)

Get a prosumer DSLR instead then, IMO.

I would suggest that also. A lot of entry level DSLR with about the same price of highend Compact Digicam (like Canon S3IS and Finepix S5200). If you have the budget try olympus E500, pentax k100D, canon 350D and a lot more. Suggestion lang naman, it's always better to research a review like you did. I am an Oly E500 user by the way and I'm no advertising.
