jerome cruz 05-15-2008, 11:46 PM Chicken Curry from Singapore is prepared differently from what we are used to here, first all spices are mixed together in a blender and is then allowed to cook first before adding the chicken. it usually takes a whole afternoon to prepare this chicken curry

ian_santos 05-18-2008, 01:35 AM We had a blast this afternoon. Not only did we learn a lot on how to prepare different asian dishes, we also tried out the different specialties of the restaurant. I would like to thank Mr. HK Tan for being such a gracious and unselfish host. Too bad not all the people who signed up came. :) Here is our group pic:

There are four other guys (Diego, Abu, Franz and Edilbert) who listed, but do not appear in the Group Hug. I hope they able to make it.
Ian, your food shots are mouth-watering. Exif data does not show that you used a flash -- was that the case?
I can't wait for my turn this afternoon.
ricky_ladia 05-18-2008, 10:10 AM Ian, those were good food shot, sayang you can't make it on the food photography workshop next saturday.:)
Dan, don't forget to post your shots later, will try to drop by.:)
ian_santos 05-18-2008, 10:35 AM Dan, yes I did not use a flash. Only light coming from their front window setup by Dariel. Thanks for accommodating me on this EB. It was well worth it! :)
Ricky, thanks for the affirmation. Coming from you, it's such an honor. :) I was really looking forward to attending your seminar. Unfortunately, I already made prior commitments before the post of the class was made. So I guess I have to wait for the next session. Count me in already. ;)
cathy.quiogue 05-18-2008, 02:03 PM It's hard to top the pics posted here already, so I'll just post evidence of how much we enjoyed this food trip. Here's the popiah rolls *after* the Saturday group went through them:
http://bp2.blogger.com/_p3LJO3qMcI0/SC8bRjQrJcI/AAAAAAAAACc/46_XkqKd9Ig/s400/%21popiah-aftermath.jpg
I actually feel we underpaid :-). Mr. Tan brought out no less than fourteen dishes, plus free beer and a dessert drink called bandung that was flavored with rose syrup. (Ian, confirm my count?) Plus, there were multiple servings of the kuah pai ti (which he also calls the lahat), the honey-glazed pork, and the curry. So to make up for it I'm pimping the place to all my friends and relatives :-).
Too bad the light was gone by the time we started eating - we weren't able to shoot the dishes that came out later.

Alvin Agustin 05-18-2008, 09:17 PM i've eaten there 3x already and the food's really authentic! hahaha! look's like nasi lemak's going to be the unofficial HQ of QC Shooters. What you say Dan?!
danpagulayan 05-18-2008, 09:30 PM Alvin, I think we can do that.
We were talking about wine and cheese tasting as a possible "Lazy" Saturday or Sunday afternoon EB, where we can also do a C&C of pictures (very much like what the SSPS regularly does). How about doing this in June or thereabouts?
Here's some work in progress that wash shot a while ago: Onion slices in Dhahl batter, cooking in virgin olive oil.

Right you are Dariel! The Saturday session was more like a banquet than a cookfest. Food was literally flowing like honey. Now I know how a bear feels like after gorging on a bee's hive.
Nice shots Wilson. I'll definitely go back there with my friends to try out the Crab and Laksa Noodles. Looks so yummy!

danpagulayan 05-20-2008, 11:08 AM ej, lets set an EB i'm sure HK will gladly accomodate us
Based on my discussions with HK, I am of the understanding that he welcomes the idea of making Nasi Lemak a haven for photographers. The place offers wifi, and is conducive to meetings, such as C&C, discussion of club/group matters, and the like.
HK would like to adorn his walls with good photographs, which can be offered for sale. For the next EB, I suggest that the theme would be a C&C or photo selection session, for the purpose of displaying your photos there.
ricky_ladia 05-20-2008, 12:00 PM Hmmm might be a good venue for another workshop!!!
Do the honor, Dan! hehehehe!

For Discussion in Meeting:

Alvin, we'll take your lead. :)
Alvin Agustin 05-21-2008, 11:36 PM as much as i want to do a model shoot inside the premises, time is our enemy. our window is just 1 to 2 hrs and 3 hrs max. besides, if there are a lot of shooters, it will be a riot... mabubulag mga diners ni hk from all the strobes sabay sabay ang putok! so most likely it will be a food photography session shooting hk's yummy dishes. then hk and 1 or 2 more judges can pick a winner and the chosen photos will be displayed on the walls
cherryparaz 05-22-2008, 03:54 PM i think the food shots will be a good way to reciprocate mr. hk's generosity. if ever, can i just watch the food photog pros do their thing? i want to go back and try the iced kachang! :)
mhaan_san_roque 05-22-2008, 04:37 PM can i tag along too... promise to just watch food pro photogs & i'll be there to just try our their dishes... i looovee asian cuisines... pleaseee... :):):)
