View Full Version : SONY AA Nimh Battery suck!!!!
noeltan 05-09-2008, 10:16 PM I wont recommend SONY AA Nimh Battery, ang Bilis self discharge niya, 2-3 days lang without using drain na :( mga 20 pcs + binili ko sa sony store sa kalaw, first I tot factory defect lang yun unang pack na binuksan ko, sa I open again another, ganun pa rin ang bilis ng self discharge using sony charger pa, so I try to complain thru sony websites kasi nandito me sa province , at First nag reply pa nanam sila agad the next day, asking where did I bought the battery, akala siguro nila fake yun nabili ko, so I email them the scan invoice, after that wala ng reply, na asar ako pinadala ko thru courier all the batteries, some of them still in sealed pack sa main office nila , attn: ko sa president, but sad to say after 10 months na ata or more , until now walang reply ang SONY  better use ENELOOP brand, the BEST!!!!!
reyrreyes 05-09-2008, 10:44 PM the sales lady at battery specialist (farmers) told me this is generally true for 2500 or higher (2700) mAh batteries. I had a set of kodak (the green ones) that discharges 2 days after charging, even if I use the Sanyo quick charger (with refresh function). those did not last 6 months.
I read a thread here that cdr king sells economax Ni-Mh batteries that work like eneloops -- at 350 pesos per pack of 4! those who used them already swear they're every bit as good as eneloops. took out a pack this afternoon but won't really know until i've used them for about 2 weeks. abangan.
Alain L Aw 05-09-2008, 11:24 PM Same with energizers 2500. I have two sets of them. Sasakit lang ulo mo. You have to charge them when you are about to use it, and you should charge them the least amount of current, so when you want to use it wait for 8 hours charging before use....grrr

Weird. I didn't have this problem with my last set of energizers.
I bought a set (4 pieces) of 2500 mAH energizers with a 1 hour charger. Performed pretty well when it was new, then after 2 months (Can't recall), they do not last 3 days. Did a little research, and found out that charging method has a lot to do with battery life.
Fast chargers offer convenience, but tend to shorten battery life because of the process involved.
I got another set, and a new charger (one that controls charging). I set it at a charge rate of 500Mah-- which would take around 5 hours. After they're discharged, I apply the same process. And after a few cycles, do a refresh activity. Charges lasted longer, and the battery lasted longer before starting to malfunction.
It's just a trade-off between fast charging and longer battery life.
I don't use energizers anymore. I use eneloops. Good investment for me since they discharge longer, I keep an extra set. And when I'm not sure of my battery requirements, I just have some disposable energizers as backup.

Out of curiosity:
1. What's your sony's mah rating?
2. Is your charger a fast charger?
3. Where did you acquire them?
And lastly, don't forget forum rule number 2.
MichaelLangner 05-10-2008, 12:28 AM Remember that the traditional rechargeable batteries and the eneloops use totally different technologies. It's exactly like in cellphones... The old cellphone batteries would not hold a charge for more than a week, the new li-poly batteries can hold a charge for ages...
Same basic thing. Bad idea to blame Sony when you're comparing apples to oranges.

I agree with you on this one.

I guess my energizers were killed by its charger that came with it (15 minute).
These were just a gift from my dad after he used it :) Maybe that's why he gave it to me....they're already dead :)
I bought a lacrosse charger that came with 4 AA's and 4 aaa's. The AA's were magnificent its been almost or more than one month on my wife's digicam and it still functioning very well (never recharged it yet) and to think of it we use it most of the time.
I also bought two eneloops now. 1 batch is still in its pack. I heard good reviews from it, I just used them for back-ups. The energizers are still with me. one batch for my flash after i charged them and some I used them in my household, remote controllers and my kid's toys.

i have the same set of batteries. though i didnt get the same problem as yours. i bought mine at camerahaus in glorietta. i got it for the lame reason na kulay orange sya...peborit color! :D
all i can say is that, i used to work with sony. and there really are "some" units that don't carry with them the "sony" quality anymore.

Aaah, those are the orange ones. They're pretty weak imho. I use the blue/orange "stamina" ones and they're lasted for many many many shots on my old H1 and are now in my 56AM flash. Very happy with them. :)
