View Full Version : What is the Secret to Success in Digital Photography here in the Philippines?
tonymagdaraog 05-09-2008, 10:42 AM Aside from the skills and creativity, I think the big factor is character. I always admired the humility of most successful people here, they even make it to the international market and made it to the top and yet they don’t spend their time bragging, lecturing like some do…. Although they are very much ready and generous to share, help and give us inspiration.
You Guys what do you think is the Secret to success?
David Tong 05-09-2008, 11:08 AM Output consistency....
Peter Jaena 05-09-2008, 11:12 AM Keep on learning... even if one thinks he/she knows alot... we can still learn alot more, a whole lot more from others... :)
riancastillo 05-09-2008, 11:16 AM connections? p-r skills? :)
dr.mark.dimalanta 05-09-2008, 11:17 AM like rian says... social skills.
jasonmiraples 05-09-2008, 11:18 AM Social Skills is right but Connections (Palakasan) is always presents.

vicoyrisma 05-09-2008, 11:37 AM Assuming you've already got a consistent output, you'll have to be either famous or have a steady stream of good paying customers, to be considered successful by others.
If you're the kind of person who puts little value on fame and fortune, then I guess your self-actualization as a photographer is already considered a success.
jasonmiraples 05-09-2008, 11:43 AM As what David said... "Thread Subscribed!"

Hahaha... Yes that is correct... Me I'm happy with what I am. You can never bring your fame and success when you are 6 feet under. Besides all of this things is not forever.

In this competitive world of arts and with the technology we have now the world is within reach, you cannot just aim for a steady income and be happy.
I have a high regard on Filipino talent that they can compete globally, like in music there’s Lea a world class talent, there’s Pempenco a raw talent discovered thru Utube, there’s Jason Magbanua who bag the top honor in video.
Whatever, as long as you love what you are doing you’ll be happy and you will have a positive output, opportunities come, you’ll be successful, thnx Vicoy.

EARTH_DEL_MUNDO 05-29-2008, 09:24 PM Newbie thoughts: Secret to success is in within you. in our own state of mind... As for me.... SUCCESS is not when your in top of what you do....(it is you'd become!) But how you overcome challenges, obstacles, hurdles, roadblocks, and self limiting belief. that's what I call success... ( I believe it is not just for DP in Phils, but for a life as a whole...):)

By knowing yourself you will know your capability, you will know where to stand, when to fight and stop.
About consistency, i think consistent on product quality thats given, but i do believe you have to adapt to the trend to stay long in the arena because through time everything changes. Thank you po Ka Pepe. :)

In addition to all that's been volunteered on this thread - passion, skills, contacts, persistence, quality of work, location etc. - I would like to add... self-respect.
It is self-respect that enables the photographer to assert his rights over his creation - whether that means his right to reasonable compensation, fair treatment or proper recognition, without which he cannot continue to exercise this profession.

Very much agree, to be able to be respected in your work and as person you have to respect yourself first.
Thank you po Mam Harvey as always your word is an inspiration to me to pursue my dream, i've been in DPP for a while lurking and learning from your words specially in the business side. :)
