Given that I would am in the market for a mid range lens, can you guys give me your opinion on the tamron lens?

I am getting mixed feedback on it. that is a good enough replacement for the L series at a lower price, but of course, the canon purists there would rebut this claim.

Can you guys enlighten me?

Sam,

Mel Enriquez shared his insight and experience with Tamron on this thread:

http://www.digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=710

Hope this helps.

I'll be purchasing my first Tamron lens today at Hidalgo so I'll just keep you posted of its pros and cons base on my experience soon.:)

Konting hintay pa guys... 3rd party lenses are going IS or VR already... the Sigma 18-200mm with Optical Stabilizer (OS) is already out... konting panahon na lang at ang Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 at 28-75 f2.8 ay magkakaroon na rin ng OS-IS-VR-versions.

thanks for the posts guys.

great that it is ok to post up here without people getting mad.

I can't wait for the OS-IS-VR versions ng cheaper lens.

I am actually not in the market any time soon. I just wanted to get the research over and done with.

I am ok with the lenses that I have. I should and must be ok, because i have no more money to spend :(. Just spent a lot on the 580ex, which I still need to fully master.

any tips?

uhm, with flash photography, the aperture and flash strength determines your subject while shutter speed determines the background.....

=)

what that means is that the shutter speed is not an element in properly exposing your subject because your flash is faster than your shutterspeed, so the amount of light being recorded would be based on the aperture and the subject to flash distance. the shutter speed in this instance just determines how much ambient light you will allow into the phot and thereby exposing your background. if you want more of the background showing, use a longer shutter speed, this is called dragging the shutter.

OK Jon, thanks. :)

Sam, I only had time to test the lens (Tamron 17-50 f/2.8) this morning since I bought it last Monday. I'm not good at reviews and all so kindly bear with the real world tests I did, ok?:D Most of the shots were at Marikina River Parks but the last two were shot at home. The only modifications made were size reduction and auto level.

IMO, this Tamron lens is slightly sharper than my Canon 50mm f/1.8 II but not as sharp as my 70-200 4L.

Hope this helps. :)

Sam, I think for 25K this Tamron lens is a good buy. It has the sharpness, well, almost the sharpness of a Canon "L" lens, the constant aperture of f/2.8, and when converted to a 35mm format, this lens covers the same angle as focal lengths of 26-78mm. So it's like I have in my possession a Canon 24-70 f/2.8 (since I'm using an APS-C or a non full frame sensored 30D), minus the more durable build quality, the USM (AF is slightly noisy but VERY FAST!), the macro feature, and the extra weight.:)

Hi I found one for P15K here at Makati. Is this a good buy or should I be worried for the build quality of this lens at this price range?
