I just bought a 1.4x II canon extender few days ago for my 70-200L 2.8 IS. I check the unit before I left the store and everythings was okay. The salesman & I check it by lighting it with a white led torch. I also look at the lens front to rear with a white paper at the background. Evrything was pefect. So, I brought it home & can't wait to try it.
At home when I was about to start, I tried looking at it on a halogen desk lamp for last check for dust & smear etc ... I discovered one glossy round dot (like flare of a lens). Tried to clean it with my new lens pen but no success in removing it. So, I when back to the shop the next day to change it. So I got a new unit. Did check it out and again everything is fine. Tried it the whole afternoon & enjoyed it very much. At home I did check it again with halogen desk lamp. I discovered same dot but now its two. So , I learned that it more effective to check it with a halogen light. Then I did check all my lenses, the rest is okay except I made a new discovery on my one month old 70-200 L 2.8 IS. I found a internal small dust or fiber look a like inside the lens.
I brought it to the shop and show them the two glossy spot inside the 1.4x II Extender. Luckily, they got me a new from the other branch. I check it with my small Maglight torch, both sides are clear. But with regards to 70-200 L 2.8IS they advise me to bring it to canon for cleaning or replacement. Hoping they will replace.
My question are :
1) This small fibers inside the lens will affect quality of the photo ?
2) What is the standards ? How Clear is Clear ?
3) Is it safe if they open the lens ?
4) Will it affect the functions or mechanism if it has been opened ?
I will bring it to canon tomorrow for warranty service.
Pls.. Advise and share some experience regarding lens service. Sorry for I have to many questions. :)
Thanks .....
