View Full Version : Dry Spell
Parc_Cruz 10-01-2006, 09:12 PM I am currently in a dry spell. I have a hundred of photos taken recently but I cannot seem to create something interesting for me.
This is my latest batch taken in Bataan, which took me awhile before I was fully satisfied with the results. I still do not think it's up to my own standards. So I let you be the judge.
What these photos reflect though is my current mood. The colors are broody and downcast. I was trying to steer away from this and I took a long route to processing but I still ended up with this feel (warm & over saturated).

nap_alcedo 10-02-2006, 05:26 AM Hi Parc, I like the feathered look. It puts emphasis on the composition and not on the sharpness aspect. There's a shroud of mystery in it. :)
pio sugay 10-02-2006, 01:48 PM i like how warmth of the pics.

Parc_Cruz 10-02-2006, 03:18 PM Hi guys!
Thanks for the appreciation.:)
I wasn't exactly bored. But rather, I was probably burned out, no concept no ideas. If this was writing, it's writer's block. I have to find a new inspiration, something to wake my senses again.

Just a thought, no offense meant ha? I'm a big fan of your photos pero parang sa tingin ko overused na yung pag-add mo ng araw sa mga recent works mo. Gives me the feeling of deja vu especially seeing most of your old works.
Hope to see you explore more uncharted photographic territories and come up with new and mind blowing photos just like before. Thanks for sharing your works and inspiring newbies like me. :)
jose_deluna 10-02-2006, 04:24 PM Hi PARC,
Is it really in your style to re-interpret reality? Naitanong ko lang, kasi I'm almost sure the real scenes are far different from your post-processed photos. Tatlong approaches lagi ang ginagawa nating mga digital photographers... 1) representational; 2) impressionistic; and 3) abstract. Tama bang sabihin ko na number 2-impressionistic and approach na ginagamit mo? That is... you're trying to blend-in your own taste and views to re-interpret a scene... thus, also introducing your own emotions.
And by doing so... you are introducing excellent photographic arts that I greatly appreciate (and I am also learning a lot from your style). Great works PARC!
Parc_Cruz 10-02-2006, 04:57 PM @ sir Orlando - yup I have to agree with you, no offense taken. I think the sun effect needs to rest, tumataas ng talent fee with modelling for my photos. :) Yes I do agree, there's a certain deja vu --- that's exactly it. I'm stumped and uninspired.
@ sir Jose - thanks! I think you could say I am an impressionist. That's what I do with my photos lately, to make my own world. I was advised by my wife (non-photographer, non-artist) today to maybe stay away from photos where I have to re-create the setting, and see if I can find my groove again. And a friend of mine noticed the pattern of this gloominess in my pictures, and I'm now backtracking where this started.
This is sort of a soul-searching/therapy session where I am trying to figure what's going on in my head right now.
Thanks for your inputs and comments.

I can emphatize with you... And sometimes this forces me to do unconventional things just to find the strength or pool where to draw my creative energies... :)
Pilar Tuason 10-02-2006, 10:49 PM Parc,
I have not seen all your images on line. Mostly I have seen the kids. I have not seen your environmental shots or anything having to do with the sun. As a first impression, I like these photos especially the third one. It looks like a painting to me. I love the warm glow of the image. Oh and about the dry spell, we all go through it once in a while. Perfectly normal:)
Parc_Cruz 10-03-2006, 09:59 AM Thank you very much Ma'am Pilar! :) It's reassuring to know that.
@ sir Earl - exactly. You and I have so many things to share about. We have to meet sometime! :)

mykl mabalay 10-03-2006, 10:15 AM great images as usual fafa parc...
you know i'm one of your biggest fans but i miss the 'shock and awe' feeling that i get when i see something new from your portfolio. baka kaya 'dry spell' ka kasi sobrang sanay ka na sa mga ganitong shots, compo, and PP at wala ng challenge sa iyo ito dahil na-perfect mo na.
why not try a different area of photography... i'm sure you'd be very interested in fine art nude :)
looking forward to the new chapter in your photo journey! more power!
