It was one quiet Saturday morning and I called a friend to go out and shoot. His question was 'where?' I said, anywhere.

Four souls made it. We were already at a gas station in the South Luzon Expressway and we have yet to decide on where to go. With a map bought about an hour prior, we practically flipped the coin to set the destination - Caliraya in Quezon.

We had to go through horrendous traffic jams; half-tire deep mud flood; silt-laden roads; fallen trees, electric posts, billboards, houses, mountains; traffic re-routes; blackouts; chasing the sun; and rain to get a few shots of the place.

Going there was a third of the fun. Shooting takes the other third and getting back home wholed it up.

"Have you ever tried finding your way in total darkness equipped with only a topographical map, a compass and a flashlight?" A 'new and upcoming photographer' showed us how it is done. Phone rings.

Companion: 'Hello...'
Voice on the phone: 'May kuryente na ba sa Makati?'
Companion: 'Ehrm... Di ko alam, pero dito sa Pangil, Laguna, wala!'

And to finish it off: "Ok folks, from this point onwards, this map is practically useless..."

Here are a few shots:

saturday lunch time. no electricity at home. i was at the office, charging my cell, my mom's cell, that of my sister's...as well as the camera's battery. syempre dito may internet...read dpp as usual... read the "bored" thread....

and after a flurry of text messages...i found myself in a car with three other photographers (a tekken-crazed magazine editor, a so young-looking media personality and a gorgeous marketing whiz from canon!), speeding down SLEX towards laguna for some impromptu shoot. it was canon all the way. we had a Mark II N, a 400D, a 350D, a 30D and even a medium format with some wicked b/w film! me being unprepared, didnt have a tripod....so kawawa naman yung hiniraman ko...nagimprovise na lang sya...hehehe.

thank you for bringing me along. and thank you for that camera holding tip...that's really something :)

Very good shots guys! So where's Niņo's pics? :)

yeah...we're all very excited to see them! he was himself very anxious to have those rolls developed and scanned. midway thru the shoot his medium-format's back developed some glitches.

which was just in good time because it started to rain...and we had to run about 200 hundred meters to get back to the car! hehe...

hey jay, you forgot to mention... mahirap tumakbo sa ulan with your gear pag malayo ang parking!!!:D

i just did! hahaha. and you guys better remember to bring some flashlights if you want to do some low-light stuff! hehehe.

didnt you notice that while we were running back to the car, i was laughing and laughing...para tayong mga sira! hahaha...we rode all the way there for about 5 hours, tapos 40 minutes or so of shooting lang...

but it was fun, sobra, nonetheless. kahit walang electricity when i got home, i was asleep kaagad...lowbat and exhausted!

1. Bring a jacket to keep you dry
2. Bring plastic bags to keep your gear dry
3. Bring umbrella to keep both you and your gear dry..
4. No more last minute planning. (pwede siguro day before..)
5. Bring something to read / ipod - esp when you're the only girl and the guys you're with talk about guy stuff (I won't go into detail na... )
6. Food and water always a must (kahit snacks lang..)
7. Slippers
8. oh, i almost forgot, flashlight... not only for low light shots, but also for "no light" destinations.. mahirap na, baka maaksidente pa dahil hindi makita ang dinadaanan..

Now that I look back at it, it was fun. I almost got sick coz of the rain but buti na lang naagapan.. and it was kinda nice to have 3 "bodyguards" with me... at least I felt safe. :)

Nice pics guys! I can imagine your drive there right after the storm hit. It must have been quite a challenge. The next time you go, you can picnic here in Surfkamp, a few minutes from the tower.
