The recent typhoon caused a lot of changes in my life recently.
First, a tree from my neighbor's property got uprooted, crashed through his permiter wall, crossed the road and landed on the newly renovated roof of my townhouse. The tree has since been cleared and my roof has been partially rebuilt.
We still have no power in our subdivision. A lot of trees got toppled along with some electrical posts and lines. I think that we still have one more week of no electricity ahead of us.
The loss of power also resulted in loss of our water supply.
But the loss of power means that I can't charge any of my camera batteries at home. I also can't use my desktop for image editing. I have to go outside just to recharge my cellphone, camera and laptop batteries.
This sort of makes me miss the days when all I had was a FM2n, several rolls of Tri-x, a daylight tank and a changing bag :D
It's a good thing though that the electrical power in my studio has been restored. :D

Jo, I know it must be hard... But it will definitely make you a better and stronger person... :)
You'll see... A few weeks from now; you'll be laughing way over your head again as if all of this was but a distant memory...

My only consolation is that the skylight that the tree came landed on provides enough light for ambient light photography during the day. My photon suffices for strobe work (one of the advantages of having a battery powered strobe :D). But I still miss working on my deskotp - and it's so hard to read comic books my candle light!

I am now trying to catch up on my emails here at Figaro using Airborne Wifi. I just hope my laptop battery is up to the task :D
Was anyone else affected by the typhoon?

No water and electricity too but luckily I took showers at different "refure camps". plus our decade old genset can take the load of a few electric fans, fridge and wifi.
I pity the mall workers or people who have to go to work after a night's sleep of hangin and lamok plus no water. They really look distressed. God bless them

just had the power restored early this evening... whew!!! 4 days of no power meant 4 days of not seeing what's happening here in the forum... had occassional peaks last thursday and friday until the battery of my laptap drained out...
but it's a different story in Legazpi... it will be almost a month before power is restored... tsk tsk tsk

Jo, buy a power inverter. So you can charge your equipment in you car :)
raymond, is the entire Legazpi area out of power for the whole week?

@amiel. As of this afternoon, there is no power yet even at the city center. Normally, it's the city center that gets power first but it seems that there are problems with Transco's transmission towers as well as the distribution lines of the local power cooperative. Last summer's typhoon aftermath, it took 2 days to restore power at the city center... just the city center, another 3 more days for the outlying baranggays and I think almost a month for the other service areas of the electric coop. With more destruction caused by Milenyo, it will be a bit longer... though, I hope not...

I remember during the early 90's that the studio where I worked regularly experienced power outages. We had a batch of b&w film that had to be developed and contact printed. The rolls were developed manually instead of relying on the rotary developer (jobo). Our darkroom technician had the bright idea of opening the darkroom door to expose the developed film and 8R sheets to sunlight for contact printing purposes. We made our deadline. Somehow, I can't imagine using sunlight to process my Camera RAW files - unless I can hook up my laptop to solar powered energy cells :D
