It's a very sharp lens Louie... And from what I've heard, it can pick up minor detail from a subject or scene over a mile a way...

However, though it's sharp; it's still a poor performer at 400mm and the use of a teleconverter is not advisable for this lens. :)

I do not personally own this lens, but comments/opinion on the web seems to categorize this lens as so-so. It's only redeeming factor seems to be it's 'reaaaaach.' - tt's 'cheap' for that alone.

@Louie

I noticed that you have the Sigma 70-200, the Nikon 80-200, the 55-200, the 70-300, and the 170-500.. you're a collector of lenses in that range, an avid birder, or still *looking* for that perfect telephoto zoom? :)

Im using this now for some sport and amateur birding. It's really sharp and the VR really helps. Most of the time I use this handheld and I get quite a lot of good pictures at 3-4 stops slower than my set focal length. Although this has a reputation of being slow to AF....it serves my purpose for now. Will try to post some pics soon.

You're right Jerry, still looking for the right lens that will fit my needs. I'm just a hobbyist whos craving for more (ADDIK) hehehehe. I want to try everything, i recently purchased the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 HSM and i'm impressed, it's better than my Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 D. Now i'm going to try Nikon VR Zoom 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED L (http://www.digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=1395) and compare it with my Sigma 170-500mm. :)

I'm so curious to try this lens as well... is it good enough for birding?

First saw this in Superman... ;-)

This is the lens you brought to the 1st EB, right? So you bought one for yourself, congrats! :)

Yes....this is the lens I brought with me on the 1st EB. Nope its not yet mine....my friend is actually letting me use it kasi he's not using it anyway and let's me indulge in it hoping I would get it from him eventually. :D No congratulations yet but I am enjoying every moment that it's with me.

Sorry if I haven's posted any pictures yet. All my images are on my desktop computer and sad to say up until now, we don't have electricity yet. :( Will post as soon as we get power....hoping it would be really soon.

Cheers!
