Pilar Tuason 09-28-2006, 09:30 PM I was planning to go out today and shoot in the rain. One step out the studio and I was right back in!! There were at least 5 trees knocked down in Rada st. The damage that this tyhpoon has made is unbelievable.

I was in Edsa at 1130am and there were tree branches, "yero", slippers, umbrellas, pilons flying everywhere... pasig river was in full swing... most of the billboards were ripped... a lot of shanty houses were roofless now... along ayala ave, it was like driving in a slalom of tree branches and uprooted trees mixed with fallen street signs... traffic lights were just blinking yellow. We just had to slow down to avoid the flying objects and really stay in the leftmost lane for fear that the billboards might fall on us.
http://static.flickr.com/99/254917950_4b41f96c09.jpg
By 12:15pm, we were on the skyway. now, don't ask me what made me decide to take that route. Our vehicle was practically being blown to the right. My hubby was fighting it back by turning the wheel to the left. All sort of things were flying everywhere. yes, on the skyway. By this time, only the BDO (Edsa-Magallanes) billboard was up.
it was dead scarey!
And, that was just the first half of the story. When we got home, we had to make sure the water wouldn't go in. We sealed the aircon and the windows. It was frightening because the wind was whistling and the kids were worried. Looking outsidethe window, I can see all the trees swaying in two directions... bent to their full capacity, fighting for their own existence as well.
Home safe now... and lucky to be online...
P.S. Didn't even bother taking more photos after Ayala Ave... the skyway adventure just freaked me out...
Fherdy Tiongson 09-29-2006, 12:55 AM Brave shutter triggerman!!!

Putting things in perspective... The earth has a unique way of cleaning itself up... After a storm, the skies just clear without a trace... Yup, today is another day. :)

so true. walked home from glorietta yesterday, not only in Rada were trees knocked down and uprooted, but also in salcedo, etc.. I think all streets had at least 5 trees / branches knocked down.. it was horrible... (too bad I didnt have my camera, would've loved to have taken photos.. it was about 4pm, no more strong winds and rain wasnt bad.. )

Anyway, I know it's not related, but I woke up at 4:30 from the heat (no electric fan). I didn't waste the moment and took this dawn shot since the city was so dark it was eerie, it felt like I was at the beach shooting the sky!

archie_apostol 09-29-2006, 03:18 PM A few shots I took from the car (using my mobile phone only).
I was in EDSA in the early afternoon and saw the damage that the typhoon brought to the trees, concrete walls, pink barriers and those now infamous billboards.
After Buendia going North, MMDA troops were diverting cars towards Rockwell. Initially, I played good citizen and followed but decided to U-turn back to EDSA and pass by the collapsed billboard where 1 person died...
I was just right next to the wreck when I saw his body pulled into a stretcher (photo28-09-06_1351.jpg) and taken out of the area. I tried to take a pic but the shot was blocked by some onlookers. It wasn't a pretty sight anyway.

The same can be said with McKinley Road, Forbes Park. Passed by there this noon. That once shaded strech of road is now very well lit because of all the uprooted century old trees. Very sad to see all those trees lying at the side of the road. :(

louie_lao 09-30-2006, 11:40 PM You guys have very nice photographs. What happened was really sad. I hope this doesn't happen again. This is the strongest typhoon I've experienced. We still don't have electricity here in our village as well. I went around and took some pictures including the village beside us. Most of the streets have been cleared with minor obstruction except for one that I passed by...the street was blocked by the electrical post. Anyway, God bless those who lost a loved one!

alex_paulino 10-01-2006, 11:59 AM Nice pics Dindin, and thank you for sharing them. I'm glad that you and your family are ok likewise the same thing goes for some of our members here at DPP. I've experienced what Typhoon Rosing did in '95 but this is much worst. :( I really felt sorry for some of our Kababayans and what happened to their homes and cars. Sayang ang mga puno, hindi na bale ang mga gigantic billboards, they're just a nuisance to everything on the roads.
