first, congratulations on your new camera! :D

the second picture of your niece is my personal favorite. good pose, good catchlight in the eyes. if you're using the kit lens, try to go for a "bokeh" effect which would effectively melt away the background so the focus is on the subject.

though this is my favorite pose, i like the natural skin colors you achieved with the first and third picture. if you can work out an angle where the fingers holding the baby are not seen, that would be cool. :)

yeah, haven't tried the bokeh effect yet... and i'll surely note that one...

and i'll try to experiment with angles too...
