yup. asked him and he said that the 35k 400d body only comes with the 10k gc and canon selphy printer.

sorry but I didn't, but afaik, Avenue doesn't have a 12mo. 0% interest. and most of the shops in Hidalgo charge 6% if you use a CC:)

did you get the local warranty for that? Henry's is well known for selling grey units without telling it to the customers, unless the consumer is aware of the grey supplies.

but if warranty and security from Canon does not matter I think many will be happy of the grey prices!:Grin:

Why should you buy grey when there's already a sale?

the price difference is still more than 10K, and for a "regular joe" like me who earns a measely pay. it means a lot hehehehe pwede na pang sigma 70-300mm, just add a few more bucks

@marche, grey is only covered by store warranty-repaired by in-house store tech normally in 1 yr period. Local warranty means the parts & repair services is done by Canon Phils w/ their certified techs if your gear broke w/in the warranty (normally 1 yr).

For bodies, I would go local warranty as camera bodies are more susceptible to problems. More parts = higher probability.

Lens using the discount coupon (-P2000) came up to approx P30k 6mo/0%. Not bad since Quiapo price for the 17-85 is approx P25-26k. Since this is my first (and only) lens, I figured the extra P5k was worth it... plus I get it on 0% installment so it's a bit easier on the wallet.

Just so you know, the 30D with the 17-85 EFS comes up to P79k. P10k more than the 400D. But it was only on 6mo 0% and that was a bit heavy.

Mine became worth it since I got to sell the free printer (30D doesn't come with a free printer AFAIK) so the price gap was worth it.

Hi Drew, gray market means Canon Phil will not honor the warranty. Any repairs (even if it's the next day) will have to be paid for. They will still fix it, it just won't be free.

Other than the kit lens, I opted for the 17-85mm EFS lens. On the 400d, which is a 1.6x crop camera, this translates to the popular 28-135 on a regular film or 1.0x camera like the 1D

from what i know the kit lens is 18 to 75 or something like (better than a 18mm to 55mm) kit lens.

its always nice to have an 18mm to 55mm or 75mm. but i personally like having the sigma 18mm to 200mm as my walk around lens. (I know that this is 3rd party, but it works as a walk around lens and photo quality pretty good)

i got my 350d at 51k. more than a year ago, I think the prices of 400d are very good these days, but there is always a room for improvement :) , like 25k for a 400d B-new Hhehehehe. baka next year.

@Christian: I am just thankful that I've learned so much about photography by having that camera. So far I have "mastered" shooting in low light without flash and I think when I get a prosumer camera (30D onwards), perhaps, there will be less trial and error when it comes to shooting. Hehehe.

Hi! I happened to chance upon a Canon sale while I was in Malaysia this past weekend. I really wanted to buy a dSLR for the longest time, so I took this sort-of sale as my opportunity to upgrade from my point-and-shoot IXUS800. Got myself a 400D kit for roughly about Php36k (RM2650), and it included the following:

Body
18-55mm kit lens
SanDisk Ultra II 2GB CF Card
Generic Tripod
EOS Bag (can't really describe the bag: it's big, black, and looks like it was made by Canon and not a third-party manufacturer)

Oh, and it's covered by a one-year international warranty, too.

I guess I just wanted to know if the price they offered for the package is competitive enough, or if I would've been better off going to Hidalgo instead. Appreciate your feedback... Thanks!

I heard that JT Photo was offering the 400D kit for 35,000 pesos (for cash purchases). But I'm still having second thoughts if I should buy now or wait for the new Canon DSLRs to come out (which hopefully will be in the coming months). Its because the price of the 400D will most likely drop once a new one is introduced to the market by Canon.

@felix: I think that's a good deal already. If I am not mistaken, CMP's price (those at DZones) is still 39,950 with the kit lens only. I don't think it has a CF card to begin with. The previous promo they had for the 400d is that it comes with a Selphy Printer.

when you buy in hidalgo shops, say mayer or henry's and only a 1 year store warranty was given instead of canon local warranty, will canon philippines acknowledge this warranty when brought to them if something goes wrong within 1 year without additonal cost?

or do you have to bring it back to mayer or henry's and they will be the one to do the service/repair/etc.?

You have to bring it to the shop where you bought it since they only gave shop warranty. If i were you get the one with local warranty, its usually a few thousand peso difference only and you even have a unlimited sensor cleaning for one year!:)

I don't think this is true! have you checked with Canon Philippines th legitimacy of the Serial Number of your camera. as long as the serial number is registered to them, they can honor the warranty, however, even if you have the Local warranty card and you lost the original receipt from the store, it will be useless. this is according to Canon Phil.:)

If the peso gets stronger, it may. Otherwise, it won't as the 400D is still currently the latest model entry-level Canon DSLR.

I dont think it will fall to the 30k and below price range, if im not mistaken, even the remaining few units of the 350d last year had only reached 31-32k before it was phasedout.

Canon EOS 400D with 18-55 mm lens.

Together with the accessories such as the spare battery, hard casing, flash memory, lens filter, LCD cover, card reader, lens cover and hood, total costs is 1,035,000 Korean Won (~50,000 Php) using a credit card.

In JTPhoto, it's around 33-34k, if I'm not mistaken.

hmmm... i'm not sure about the procedure on canon's "international warranty" but my sister-in-law was able to utilize it well. my husband bought her a canon a510 in singapore 2 years ago. when it broke down a few months after purchased, she brought it to the local canon service center along with the receipts and warranty documents. when it was determined unrepairable, she was given a new a610 instead. the process took a while though because the replacement unit came from abroad.

Got mine for Php 39,950 @ canon Marketing in SM City Cebu.

okay.. was able to buy it for 33,050 at 24K... heehee..

He was probably able to get it at 0% 12 months, that's why it's priced higher at 39,950.

Sorry for the late reply... I got mine at 24K Fotohaus at Hidalgo, Quiapo with local warranty. Cash basis lang po yung price na 33,050Php.

Canon has a booth in SM Southmall and they're selling the 400D kit for 37,500. Is this price ok considering that I can use my credit card at 0% interest?

I would appreciate your responses since the booth will only be there until Wednesday.

@ hans, i'd say go buy it. regular stores sell it for 39,500 without installment. the price of 37K is actually the most affordable ive heard of for a credit card. 400d was 48,500 last march. does it come a bag though? if not, ask for it.

yeah, people are speculating (expecting? anticipating?) a 450D to come out around february 2008. I honestly remember seeing a Php24k body only 350D in a mall (yes, mall) a few months after the 400D was released. But to be safe, it'll probably go around to the Php30-34k levels. :)

Given this, are there "side-effects" of using 580 ex II in 400d? I am planning to get one this Christmas and I think 580 ex is no longer available in Canon shops.
