Try levels? I was able to do this before... now I forgot. I'll try again.

There's a bit of unsharp masking perhaps and dodging and burning (probably minimal on the legs of the lady).

The rim-lighting was probably adjusted using replace colour or hue and saturation - lightening the reds.

For the overall tone, can be done by color balance or an overlayed monotone layer.

Just guessing here I tried to remove the red light by using color range under select menu, but you will be needing the high res file to make an accurate selection.

i tried isolating the rim light via levels (ended up with all of the image black except for the red rim light, then turned that to black and white image...then i changed the blending mode to screen...that turned the rim light to some extent, white but there were still some reds along the edges...:(

how do i increase the size of the light that is isolated by the levels adjustment? i seem to lose some of the edges when i do this step...

sir ronnel, ma'am lei..will try those other color isolation techniques..thnx for the tip..

my first guess would be a combination of extraction, duplicate layers and/or layer adjustment curves. i'm not a guru either, but that's how i'd probably approach this challenge. :)

i was able to change some reds to orange by using a selective color adjustment layer and targeting the reds. i subtracted magenta from the reds and added more yellows. as for the red turning to white, my guess in my 3 minute edit was she killed the red's saturation and increase the red's lightness turning it to near white. she then proceeded to mask the areas that need not to be affected.

Duplicate layer
Convert mode to LAB color from Image>Mode>Lab Color
Adjust Curve by setting up the channel
Set channel A to your desired adjustment like input -92, output -128
Set channel B to your desired adjustment like input 92, output 127

Thats all folks!

lets try

I'm guessing selective color + levels.

ken, nino, tracy, thnx for the help guys...:D you've all been very helpful..i tried selecting the red via select color range then reducing the saturation of the reds then increasing the lightness...than seems to work...thank you again..

using selective color seems flat ;)

I guess you're right. It only took away the red light.

Has anyone tried channel + selective color?
