true true but i love using the bulb mode. the self timer is a hassle to use especially if you are estimating your shots. with the cable release+ bulb you got full control

i too am also looking for a cable release for the d200...

i also use the timer but when i want to make bulb exposures, the self timer wont definitely do the trick...

so mainly i'm on the look for a mc-30 - may it be the original or a 3rd party one.

there are a lot of 3rd party mc-30s on ebay...if your thinking of purchasing one, can i also "hitch" into your purchase? :)

thanks! hehehe

First I got one of the "clone" remotes from Ebay. It works - most of the time
I then got an MC-36 but realized that I don't need it's other features(it's big and fugly too:) not to mention expensive) since the D200 already has a built in intervalometer so I sold it. I am expecting my MC-30 to arrive this week and will will report back as to how that turns out.

One other option is to use your laptop along with Nikon Camera Control.

i compared shooting using timer (20s) and using a cable release and i noticed a slight blur on the timer-shot. i guess there's still a slight shake?

oh, and with the cable release, you can go beyond 30s.

I use the MC-30 which I also use on my F100 and it's working aboslutely perfect. There is an MC-20 at Wells Edsa cor. South Superhighway now just bargain cause their prices are a bit expensive. Most of their items now are on sale.

Hi Dindin,

Did you try turning on shutter delay mode(option d5) on your D200 when you did the test? This mitigates the effect of the mirror slap. Of course, using the mirror lock-up function with the remote is best but sometimes it's such a hassle to fiddle with the remote (I guess I am lazy )

tried this but Nikon Capture Control won't allow you to do bulb exposures. It will insist that you use a cable release!
