nino_carandang 09-29-2006, 10:02 AM same question. we have no news yet.
dave_deluria 09-29-2006, 10:09 AM With the Mayor on the radio this morning supervising the cleanup, I don't think he can inaugurate Hidalgo.
I have a wad-o-cash with me to spend too but with the ATMs still iffy, I am wary of spending now on non-essentials at least until everything goes back to normal. DARN! And I really wanted to release this NAS I have!

Rowena_Clemente 09-29-2006, 06:50 PM I went to hidalgo today Sept. 29, around 1pm and the sale is ongoing until sunday according to Ramon of Mayer. The ribbon cutting and inaugaration was postponed but i seems hidalgo is business as usual. There were alot of fotog who were in his store and he said he is giving special discounts these weekend only. All the other stores in Hidalgo are also open. The canon 400D is available at Mayer @P45k with P2t cash discount coupon.
dave_deluria 09-29-2006, 06:56 PM I was there around 11am. In a sale, the early bird gets the worm!

alex_paulino 09-30-2006, 01:11 PM Here's the thread were you can get a map of Hidalgo, compliments of Randall. He did a very good job in making the map. Like what I told him before, that this would be a lot of help for members of DPP because it also includes the names of the shops mentioned in the forums. He said that he would be upgrading the map soon. More power to you Randall.:)

Tammy, if it's from Charo Nuguid, it must be true. She's such a reliable source. :)

I can't even dare myself to refute this claim! :( So sad yet it is highly possible. But for the moment, let's just enjoy the improvement they have made at Hidalgo. :)
On Monday I'll be making my last purchase of lens for this year (hopefully) at Hidalgo since I was promised by one of the store owners there of an extended discount. Kainis, so enticing! Good thing bank accounts don't swear.

royryap 10-01-2006, 10:47 PM I havn't braved to visit the place yet. I'm still new in photography. Quick question, is it really safe to bring your precious gear and flaunting it around the area? I mean, the place has this reputation, right?

i couldn't bring out my gears too. i had the same fear. I had our driver looking after me all the time para may bodyguard. hehe
the only time I found the guts to bring out my camera was when I saw the other photographers with their cameras, white lenses and all. really, there is strength in numbers!
after my short shoot, my Nikon went straight to the bag and off we go. Next time, we really should go in groups.

John Edward Taca 10-02-2006, 09:59 PM Very happy to see the open space. The design however like most Manila projects are not up to international tourist standards. not far from pasay efforts...but again im happy to see that they were able to impose some order and discipline in the place for city politicians thats a big step forward =)

Hi Dave are you sure this is Hidalgo street...the one in Quiapo??? Wow. the last time I was here was full of street vendors....I had a hard time to go to my final destination.... Nice photos BTW....thanks for sharing....
Aris Guerrero 10-04-2006, 06:09 PM not dave but yes, that is hidalgo. you can check out the Restoring Hidalgo thread. :)
Vince_Villamin 10-04-2006, 06:13 PM Wow, nice na Hidalgo! Sana lang di magbabaha na. A month ago I went there and it rained fairly hard. I got stranded inside 24K for around 40 mins, even though the rain only lasted around 15 mins. Even then my shoes got drenched and some water made it towards my socks. Anyway, it looks very nice, I will be going there tomorrow as well, hopefully they have resolved this problem by now. Just to be sure, I'll be wearing shoes that are better suited to rains :)
raymund_madronero 10-04-2006, 06:26 PM I dropped by there this morning after an errand that I had to attend to...
Columbia is selling their old inventory...
quite a lot of prime manual lenses... still kinda pricey... most of them above 25k level...
there's an F5 for about 52k... an F100 for about 32k... and a GOLD FA for 85k... (also saw one at ebay.ph for USD1,000)
SB-27 speedlight for 6.5k and SB-50 for 5.5k
didn't ask the other stores na... la naman akong pambili... hehehe

Dear Tammy,
Quiapo is so rich in all sorts of photographic subjects, There's the fortune tellers, the candle vendors with different color candles which symbolizes Love, money, friendship,
the herbs vendors that would sell you dried seahorse to bring back long lost husband ( complete with cooking instruction), and the Ukay ukay, the fish vendors. You could spend weeks and still not enough. I know you are a hobbyist and likes to write. So many articles have been writing about Quiapo and still more subjects to discover. Once a writer friend told me " In Quiapo, there are always things to sell including your redemption". May I request please go back and be patient... observe first then study them before you even take your camera out. You will find so many images worth writing about... John Chua

Hello Sir John!
Before anything else, congratulations with the success of the project. Going around Hidalgo is always a pleasure and now with the "pedestrianization" it's double the pleasure. And you're definitely right about Quaipo  I can't get enough of the place and the limitless subjects worthy to be photographed. I was even proud to tour a Polish Photographer/World Press participant around the place last month and I'm glad to say she had lots of fun. So I am sorry if I sounded a bit arrogant with my comment on the program earlier. I left early since I'd rather buy mooncake for tomorrow's dice game than sit under the sun for the Atienza show (kudos to the Mayor BTW) Anyway I can't wait to go back and take my SLR with me (I didn't bring one earlier BTW). I will dedicate my first Quiapo photo essay to you. Maraming salamat.
Tammy_David 10-05-2006, 10:27 PM Hey Tammy! Are you the one wearing black with the sunglasses on? Sorry to hear that you got bored. I was also there but went with a friend and met with a group. :)
Yup! so sorry to say that was me ;p I was with my boyfriend but he was busy covering it for PDI. I didn't have enough sleep and the beloved Mayor was late. I hope to see you guys again during my sembreak

I knew it...you look so familiar! Sayang...you should've brought your camera so that you could've taken even a few photos. Well, as you said, you could do it on your sembreak. Or maybe if there's another event at Hidalgo. :)
dave_deluria 10-05-2006, 11:06 PM Thanks everyone! Yes I was using the D80 + 18-200 mixed with some fisheye shots.
