:) Nikon will release the D2X firmware update... (This Fall = Soon) YEY!

A number of features will be added or updated as described below:

HI-0.3 (ISO 1000 equivalent), HI-0.5 (ISO 1100 equivalent) and HI- 0.7 (ISO 1250 equivalent) options will be added between the ISO 800 and HI-1 sensitivity settings.

Autofocus subject acquisition and tracking capability will be improved.

A "Black-and-white (sRGB)" option will be added to the "Colour mode" settings in the shooting menu.

An "Image authentication" option will be added to the setup menu. Note the optional Image Authentication Software is required to verify image authenticity.

A "Trim" option will be added to the shooting menu.

The "Custom" option in the shooting menu's "Tone compensation" option will be modified so that up to 3 user-defined curves can be downloaded to the camera. An upgrade of Nikon Capture 4 Camera Control is scheduled to support download of 3 curves to the camera. The optional Camera Control Pro software can also be used to download curves to the camera.

A "Save/load settings" option will be added to the setup menu.

The "Mirror lock-up" option in the setup menu will be modified so that the mirror can be locked in the up position using battery power as well as when using AC adapter power.

The number of options available for the "Lock-on" item in the Custom Settings menu will be increased to 4: "Long", "Normal", "Short" and "Off".

"Max. sensitivity" and "Min. shutter speed" options will be added to the "ISO auto" item in the Custom Settings menu.

The "Maximum shots (Max No. of shots taken in continuous shooting)" option in the Custom Settings menu will be modified to allow a maximum setting of 60 shots.

The "FUNC. button" in the Custom Settings menu will be divided into two options: "FUNC. button press" and "FUNC. button + command dials".

A "Recent settings" option will be added to the setup menu.

 This is what's instore for us D2X owners... Really soon...

Hi Guys,

Any idea how much the firmware upgrade would cost? Still thinking on whether I will buy the D2Xs or the D2X on Sale right now and just purchase the firmware upgrade later on when I need it. One thing that the technician said about the upgrade limitation is that it cannot be used to improve the high speed cropping mode and longer battery life that the D2Xs has. Daniel Tan said that this can be done by replacing the screen sensor and buying the new battery. Kindly shed some light Sensei Earl.

Right Eric D.?

Okidokee, though I'm still far from being a Sensei (Instructor in Nihonggo), Here's my take on this firmware upgrade thing... Eric, the good news is that it's FREE... Yes! You do not have to pay a single centavo to download this firmware online. Actually it's the second firmware available for the D2X but it's the one which has major features rectified and modified that tremendously and drastically improves the D2X' performance and considerable workflow, making it actually an effective D2Xs. The only major difference now is the HSC mode's cropping screen function; the newer battery and the imprinted strap/camera badge... IMO and if I were you... I'd go get me one of those D2X bodies now on sale, if you want to get your money's worth and save major bucks; that is, if you do not mind waiting for this soon to be released update; as well as the fact that you're still really just using a D2X and not a D2Xs. :)

To add: Nothing to worry about the D2X' battery life... The stock provides excellent usage-time Eric... Actually you can shoot a whole day event with it, without having the need for a replacement... However, here's another suggestion though, if you might need a spare battery then just acquire the newer model used for the D2Xs... So viola, you hit 2 birds with one stone. :D Oooooh, and before I forget... You can always get that focusing screen replacement for the D2X which closely mimics that of the D2Xs' for the HSC mode... But the visual cues are quite different since this would be already fixed for the D2X vs. the automatically removable one found in the D2Xs.

Hope this helps Eric... :)

PS: Even without the firmware updates... IMO The D2X is still one hell of a camera Bro.

Firmware upgrade is free you have to download from a Nikon site and install in your CF then execute. There are certain things we need to watch, the battery should have enough charge and you have to do one at a time for A & B.

Earl I wonder if the D200 upgrade will come out at the same time.........

Earl I wonder if the D200 upgrade will come out at the same time.........
 From what I've heard, it's also scheduled this fall and would be a minor one. The update will only adopt the D2Xs "Image authentication" option in the setup menu. As well as support for the optional Wireless Transmitter WT-3.

I'm thinking here that most probably sabay sila for the D2X one... :)

Hi Earl,

Hai, Domo arigato gozaimasu tomadachi. I'll get in touch with Columbia today and check the availability of the D2x. If there's none well I was informed recently that the introductory price of the D2xs of Php 206k will go up to around Php 256k by end of September. How much would the D2xs cost there in Japan? I hope that I can even get the D2x at zero interest payable in one year as what Anderson Tan said will be offered soon to Nikonians. Some can afford to pay on the spot but I prefer to use the money in the normal day to day business operations. Since I am an entepreneur, I don't get a fixed salary but an income which is dependent on my existing portfolio and sales booking. It also takes time for corporate accounts to pay so I have to be liquid all the time. Anyway, Thanks for your guidance and moral support. It is greatly appreciated Oh wise one. Once a karateka, always a karateka, dewa oitoma shimasu, Bow and Ooz.:-).

Kala ko meron na eh! Nikon is porbably holding off the release of this so they would sell more D2Xs bodies. Because this update makes the D2x as close as possible to the D2xs

Don't be. The Xs is still the better camera. The viewfinder masking alone in high-speed crop mode makes it worth it in terms of usability.
