We're announcing this early to give our readers enough time to come up with new material or to dig up their library. The topic for November-Issue 06 is

High Key / Low Key Black and White Portraiture

Issue 06 is going to be our monochrome issue so show us all what you got in monochrome portraiture.

We are going to increase submission now to FOUR photos rather than three for this month.

We are talking to a supplier to possibly donate something for this month so we may announce a PHOTO of the MONTH. Winner will take home the donation. This is not yet confirmed but we are working on it.

The Gallery for November is not yet set up so please wait for it before you start posting your photos. To our new members, it is from the gallery where we choose the photos. If we pick yours, we will ask for a hi-resolution copy that we will analyze to see how well it would print on an off-set CMYK press. If it looks good after our proofing then we use your image, if not then we don't.

Good luck to everyone. Post if you have any questions.

Nick, just curious are sepia toned and/or B/W IR portraits admissible? :)

Hi Nick, is it possible to know how many you're considering for the reader's gallery for Oct? you seemed to have included maybe close "nil" in the Sept issue after you mentioned that you will allocate more space for local images..

Nick Tuason

@Earl-Monochrome can mean toned or IR.

@John- close to nil for September issue? Is that what your post was saying? On the contrary, every photo from Low Light Landscape article was all local. Also, the entire readers gallery was dedicated to local photography. Maybe I'm not reading your post correctly. Please advise.

Nick, I was in the middle of a studio shoot at dpi when I chanced upon a copy of the sept. issue. I never really read it until today when I got my own copy. It’s a great read as usual!

I’m glad to see the images at the “low-light landscape” section/ feature which I expected to be in the reader’s gallery. By “close to nil” I had really meant “none” recalling the copy I browsed through at dpi where I only found Olympus EB images which were all off-theme. I’ll remember to pick my copy first before I write any comments about future DPP issues.. I suppose the thoughtless comment was also an off-shoot of my excitement joining the contest the first time to be "on print."

Hi Terry,

For now we scrapped the subscriber rule and the Reader's Gallery is just what it is, for our readers such as yourself. We are allowing FOUR pics this month. Please post in the Gallery. This will be open for about three weeks until we announce the cut off date. Then we browse through the gallery and choose our favorites. If we choose yours, we ask a hi-res copy for our review. We need to make sure that your file will print well on CMYK offset. If we feel it won't then we won't use it. We ask that you enter your best photos that have the best file qualities. Good luck!

Aaron,

Thank you for your kind offer. We may take you up on it one day. I'll let you know if the theme is appropriate. It may not make it out to our winner because we'll probably end up consuming it in our office! :) Thanks again.

Hi Nick,
I read the magazine but it's the UK version. :)

Are those living abroad allowed to join? If it's allowed, where can we find the rules?

Hmmm. To what extent is photoshop allowed?

Sorry I have too many questions.

Okay guys. The November Gallery is now closed. All those who have submitted photos, they will go under review from our DPP team. We will then send you a private email if we like your photo. You will have to send us the master file. Also, if we ask for your photo, it still does not mean we will use it for the magazine. Priority will go to files that are optimized for print, meaning no posterization, artifacts, etc.

Thanks again for your inputs. In seven days I will make an announcement for our December issue.

Sige NAP, i'm really crappy at reading and following all the threads. sayang, wanted portraiture BW. :( Paki PM mo nalang ako brod.............let's see what they choose and do our own yardstick...........let's see how we hold up to their choices..........it either builds up confidence, or comes down on us like the world trade center!! I saw the galleries, and I did see a lot of nice photographs. Sayang talaga. :(
