I just have an honest question to all nikon users. Why do most of the nikon users call themselves "the brave ones"?

mmmm maybe because thier brave enough to stray away from what the mass photographers have, a canon in which i guess 90% of the pinoys have. just like the phone of the masa, nokia.

If in a group of 10, 8 users are Canon will you be brave enough to get a Nikon & wait for them to keep on teasing you?

My idea why Nikon users are called "the brave ones" is related to warranty issues. We all know that one reason photographers buy Canon systems is the availability of a local Canon service center (Canon mismo). I believe Nikon doesn't have one... well maybe an authorized service center which is Columbia ba? (im not sure about this), though I heard some horror stories. Thats why some opt to have their Nikon system serviced to Nikon Service Center HK (neareast)

My 2 cents lang po, please feel free to correct my post. hehe :)

..oh yeah it could also be about the warranty thingy since there's no official Nikon warranty in the Phil.

If i was in the Phil, i would go for local warranty, service & selections but i'm not @ the moment & i guess i would be the bravest coz i'm the only 1 using Minolta dslr even after the company had closed it's photog section hehehe

Sony surpirse us!!! ay OT na already :)

but isn't there local warranty (by columbia global) for nikon bodies locally purchased? And at the same time, canon users also have their share of horror stories with regards to canon warranty and service.

actually aly, there is. but good luck on having to have it fixed. i've heard first hand horror stories regarding the local distributor. some of my nikon user friends have their gear shipped to HK or Jap and spend a little more rather than having it fixed locally, which you might end up spending more.

with regards to canon warranty and service, i've heard some. it wasn't that bad as compared to the other distributor. it also pays to be a part of CPS. :)

I don't also agree with the "dark side", I've been using Nikon since '98 and I've actually never felt that I was on the "other" side. "The Brave", yup that's just the riske we take isnce we don't have a consistent and reliable service center locally.

As if there is no Canon calculators. :D

Back then, Nikon even provides lenses for early Canon...

To think, Nikon was an Optical company while Canon is a consumer electronics company.

But, I think Nikon shuold do something about those company that uses the same name like Nikon electric Fan. :D

It was really the other way around then when Nikon was the professionals' choice. It just came about when Canon first released an affordable entry level digital SLR and many have jumped system just to join the digital bandwagon. Well I can say that the light just dimmed a little on us, but there's still a light at the end of the tunnel. :)

It would be nice if Nikon would setup a service center based here in the Philippines.

Amen to that! Having a competent, and efficient service center and a solid marketing department locally will make Nikon quite competitive in the industry.

Again, it boils down to preference.

I love Nikon because they give me the images I want to have and I just love the way they look... so guwapo!

Again, it just boils down to preference.

Have I mentioned how much I love Nikon?

When I bought my first SLR in 1998, I didn't know anything so my only basis for deciding between Canon and Nikon then was how the camera felt when I carried it. Plus of course a few basic features a friend told me to look out for. I was deciding then between the N70 and the Canon counterpart... I bought the N70. Haven't looked back since...

I love nikon :) The D70 feels so much better than the 350d. When i was choosing a dslr, the canon felt so light in my hands. :)

you'll know it's nikon for you when you feel that magic feeling the moment you try it out... and when when you get "hiyang" with it, you're hooked forever... it's the Nikon magic... and it's Nikon all the way from that time on, baby!

I thought I had finally found a local service center for my newly adopted camera brand. Oh well, at least they service Sony's too! :D

according to my professor at Fotosoft Institute of Photography who owns and use tons of cameras including Mamiya, Hasselblad, Schneider, Carl-Zeiss, Leica, medium formats to large formats (in short, he's an expert when it comes to cameras and lenses):

Canon is indeed has an edge over Nikon when it comes to technology,
but Nikon is not that far behind and is better built than Canon.
That is why he highly recommends Nikon, and i believe in him...

i had two Nikon F80 before i switch to D70, never had any problems with them.
don't see the need of a good service center, and i wonder why the other brand do...

and i don't consider myself brave knowing that my gear is more durable,
i guess "they" are the brave ones...

its both ways...if we based it on photography clubs. canons can be teased by nikons because of the majority of users. and the same way around nikons can be teased by canons because of the majority of users.:D

If you're brave enough to take GREAT pictures, then go with the Nikon. :D

Darkside & jedi analogy... I'm a Star Wars fan, but I find it very tacky using this on the Nikon-Canon rivalries....

i know that "D70" has a very well-built body so far based from the forums that ive read and there are a few D70 users complain about anything. dont tell me that other brands dont need local good service centers.:)

have there been ideas of canon and nikon creating one dslr? (sorry if i offended any) i dunno, just the fun of it, one one time bigtime project that can probably send waves around the photography world. will it be called CA-NIK or NIK-CA or SO-NY? wala lang.

Sadly the local Nikon service does need improvement, though the recent experiences of many are showing that there is indeed improvements and the future is looking bright, its hard to say for the other brands though, where the increase number of complaints about service just means their service is on a downhill.

So its a heads up, do you want to go with something from the bottom going up or something from the top but going down.

I myself had a very bad experience with local canon service (during my film days), thus my decision to switch.

As far as "dark side" term, I remember back in the early days of PhPhoto, the term was used to refer to people shifting to digital (whatever brand).
