View Full Version : Endemic birds at Philippine Birdfest
Romy Ocon 09-21-2006, 07:55 AM The 2nd Philippine Birdfest whose theme is "Endemik: Dito lang sa Pinas!" will kick-off tomorrow (September 22 until 23) at the Crossroad 77 Convenarium, Mother Ignacia, QC. Among the many activities is a photo exhibit of endemic birds, featuring the work of many local bird shooters (including DPP regular Tina Mallari and I).
Admission is free and for those interested, here's the link to the details:

Gil Tuzon 09-22-2006, 12:52 AM Love those shots esp. the 1st one. I would give 1,000 egret shots for one of those :~). Would be a blast to attend that bird fest but I won't be traveling this year in Asia until late Nov. or early Dec.
Saludo ako sa iyo idol,
gil
Marton_Benitez 09-22-2006, 01:07 AM Wow these are really nice :) Again :D haha
You always have beautiful shots :)
Romy Ocon 09-22-2006, 08:57 AM Thanks, everybody.... we had a hard time trying to devise a way to hang heavy 12x15 frames in our booth whose walls are not that sturdy. But trust a Pinoy as far as gagawan ng paraan is concerned.....
Tina, why didn't you exhibit the Rufous Coucal pic? That's the first capture ever of this bird in the wild, and I was looking forward to see the historic image in print :) . Very nice Luzon Hornbill and Philippine Ducks!
Will post some snapshots of the birdfest later....:)

Here's a couple of quickly processed snapshots on the first day of the birdfest, both with the 20D + Sigma 10-20....:)
Congressman Miguel Zubiri of Bukidnon views endemic bird photos exhibited by the Philippine Bird Photography e-Group (PBPeG), as bird shooter Nilo Arribas looks on and Lydia Robledo shoots some pics in the background.

Thanks, TJ.... most of the PBP gang were there yesterday, except our muse Tina who I believe would grace the affair today.
Subic would be your best best on endemics, and Doc Joey (he was at the birdfest yesterday too) is the authority on the prime locations here.

Jimmy Rosaria 09-23-2006, 09:05 AM nice gallery sir romy... and congrats to all participant
what is the size of each picture and how much for a single print that big?
thanks
Reyno Rosete 09-23-2006, 09:07 AM From what I see in your photos, I can assume that the event was a success. Best of all, I'm really glad to see the youth getting involve as they will be the ones who'll continue to make others aware of the importance of conservation. My hats off to you Romy and the rest of bird conservationists in the country. Congrats.

Thanks, Jimmy and Reyno.
My pics are printed to 12x15 inches. If the capture is pixel sharp, I can use a crop as small as 4 MP to print to that size and feather detail is still very good even when viewed from 10 inches away. I had these pics printed at JT Photo, using Kodak Pro Endura matte paper. They list a 12x15 for PHP 160.00 per piece, but if you're a regular customer, some discounts may be possible.
I avoid using glossy paper now - this has a larger color gamut but it tends to stick to the frame glass and light reflection is worse.
