I, too, went to a number of camera bags. As I acquire more gears so does the need for bigger bags. I'm currently very happy with my Kata R102 backpack.

Got bitten by the Camera Bag bug too, due to the accumulation of a lot of gears, i was able to find a bag that fits my needs, a CRUMPLER $7m home, hopefully this cures the deadly virus hehehehehe

Think am starting to have this syndrome as well. Am currently looking for an everyday/camera bag as well as a travel/camera bag in the next few months. But not from camera bag manufacturers.

i had a tamrac velocity 7 but sold it when i got my d200. i am currently using a 7 million dollar home but i find it too bulky for everyday use. i am thinking of an alternative. any of you guys want to sell me one of your bags? i need the smallest most compact one that will accomodate a d200 w grip and 17-55 lens and flash???

Ruel-

By far, the Kata R102 is the best bag I've own (I went through Tamracs, Lowepros and a Crumpler in the past). It fits 2 camera bodies and all the lens I have listed on my signature and plenty of space films and other clutters I usually bring along. Plus, it doesn't scream "Steal me, camera inside!".

ruel, long time dude..

speaking of camera bags, currently am using the lowepro computrekker AW with rollers, and the crumpler december quarter as the two main work horse.

also have the lowepro dryzone 200, some nikon camera bags, lowepro SF belt system, lowepro toploader AW 75 etc..

yet, am still looking for another camera bag that will fit everything hehe

The only thing about Lowepros are their foam, it varries from model to model. case in point: my Nova 4's foam padding can hold its form much better than my Stealth Reporter... any body noticed that? or am i just stuffing too many gears in my bag? =b

I have a cabinet full of them. Some are 5 to 6 years old. I don't know why I still keep them. It seems everytime I buy a camera before, they tend to sell you a camera bag too, and you end up buying one anyway for no reason. I'm currently using a Velocity 9 but it makes me look goofy. I look like an overgrown high school student if I wear it. I stopped wearing it ever since my own wife laughed at me. :D

I have a bag syndrome too.. I have at least 50 bags.. not for my camera though...:D

for my camera, I started with a caselogic toploader but then sold it after 2 months, then got myself a Lowepro Nova 2 AW. I still want the stealth reporter though. Crumplers look good also.. (very tempting, i should say) but then so far my Lowepro serves its purpose still... No "itch" yet to get a crumpler or the stealth.. After my most recent bag purchase (Nino knows the brands I got) I told myself my next bag purchase will be in 5 years. :D

Got infected too. Have 5 camera bags (Tamrac, Lowepro(2), Expedition 5 and a 5 mil crumpler) + a lot of computer bags from hard case to backpacks. My wife has been complaining that our bedroom is already filled up with my bags that is why I did not show her my newly acquired lowepro slingshot bag (he, he, he). Good thing now that I was able to find some use for my camera bags. My lowepro nova now houses my canon selphy.

well i've used my old bags before,

i still actually use an old 'vivitar lens case w/ strap'
a Holden hardcase w/ padded interior ( for travelling, very bulky its like i'm making a ransom delivery)
my old dlsu bag w/ a vivitar camera bag inside

and my recent purchase a 7mill, w/c in my case just the right size for me since im used to carrying big bags just as long I can put my 30D w/ grip, flash and 3 lenses.

if theres a bag out there w/ a shoulder strap, padded interior, 3 lock mechanism (zip, vel and buckle type) waterproof shell and exterior, good frame and lining, lightweight, a little smaller than a 7mill, and looks discrete but hip that could fit a 30D, 3 lenses flash batteries and CFs and tripod sling. let me know. hehe

After getting my new Road Runner and selling my Stealth Reporter 650AW, I've finalized my bag inventory. At least I hope I did.

I love my Road Runner, it fits all my gear inside and the built-in trolley is really a big help. Can't imagine shouldering everything now.

Let's see,

My main bag is a lowepro Toploader 75 AW.
I have two stealth Reporter bags (one 650 and one smaller which was donated so at least I didn't buy that one).
I have a Nova AW
Another toploader (the smallest one)
and several lens pouches.

Oh yes, my latest baby is the Pelican 1560 case (padded with lid organizer) which fits everything in it (except my laptop) so I expect to be selling the other bags (except for the toploader 75) soon.

I bought my Donke Shooters Bag way back in 97...at thatvtime it was around Php. 4,500.00 to around 5,000.00 bought it from the legendary Beth Chiu. I was probably the best bag i ever used. Still alive today and still use it if I do Photojourn style shooting where the gear can be quickdraw style. But since i work with two bodies i have to use either my Tamrac Cyberpack 9 or my Tamrac Pro 8 all of which does not come close to the Domke durability. My tamrac zippers are broken and had to change the shoulder strap of my Pro 8 with a Lowe Pro strap so as not to slip off when I run. I also have a Yellow Pelican 1450 if take my gear over bodies of water for med missions shoots just to keep my babies safe and dry...Planning to get a Pelican 1510 roller bag so i could still carry it on as hand carried luggage on plane trips. All in all Domke by far has been the toughest and most durable of all bags that i owned. Planning to get the Domke bag that Avenue still has. there is a black ballistic nylon one and a brown canvas one good for two bodies and accessories all in the 8k range. For now i make do with my cyberpack...hoping to own the cyber side of the pack....hoping and praying for a laptop soon. haaay!

i think they have an F1-thingy (pardon the name, i wasn't sure about the exact model name).. =) nice strap, sturdy foam padding, very slim profile compared to the designed for digital bags. although i'm not quite sure whether it could accomodate a DSLR with the grip attached! =)

tok: in mountaineering, may mga unwritten rules kami :-D the bigger the bag, the more the temptation to fill it up, even on short photo trips. i guess that's where the bag accumulation syndrome starts -- buying bags to suit different occasions (short trip/overnight trips/multi-day trips). i'm a hiker-mountaineer kaya i'm applying my learnings from climbing over to photography. it's really tempting to bring a lot of stuff pero on hiking trips, even an ounce can seem like a ton hahaha

Thanks for the suggestions guys and I checked them all out (red wagon and sacks included) and am zeroing in on the Lowepro Pro Trekker placed inside a Pelican 1650 case without the foam/dividers.

I'm thinking the Pelican will give me protection against water, rough handling, theft (locked), and getting run over by a Humvee. The Pro Trekker can be used to carry the stuff around where tiny plastic wheels don't work and likewise add better padding/protection than Pelican's foam/padded dividers.

Has anyone done this?

That Brazillion looks really humongous! Perfect to fit most of your gear... transport rather, but not to lug on your shoulder for a long period of time!!!

HEAVY LOAD... if full.

yeah, i bet it's gonna tear your shoulders if you carry it even for just an hour (fully loaded ah..). but if backpack naman kasi, you'll look like a member of teenage mutant ninja turtles naman! you have to lay it down pa in order to get something! haha.. oh well :)

@Ros - Iraq? Just kidding, actually Xinjiang? Tibet? in the not so distant future. I guess I just like packing all my gear in one bag only - whether I use it or not.

Likewise, it doubles as some sort of dry cabinet that I can place under the bed? Perfect also for long expeditions wherein I don't have to agonize what to bring and what not to BEFORE the trip - just load it up and go.

Just thinking pa lang naman hehehe if it turns out to be a bad idea, then we're back to smaller bags and a cabinet. :)

What would be the right bag to use for 3 pro bodies, 8 lenses, 3 flashes, and the supporting gear for it? Assume that you need to bring everything for a shoot - 1 giant bag? Multiple hard cases, backpack?

hi jerry, will you be travelling? if you would, get a pelican (for check-ins, tawid dagat and etc) and big camera bag for the actual shoot :D and don't forget to bring an assistant to lug them all around :)

It's interesting because various visitors were nice enough to upload pics of their fully-loaded bag, such as this:

For how long a period a time do you intend to carry this load? Or are you just planning to use this bag to transport all your stuff?

That load will surely kill your shoulders and back!!! Even with the best paddings... ;-)

Hi Dindin. I don't intend to carry it at all, hence the need for a Pelican with wheels. The only carrying I'll do for that entire pack is from house to car, car to airport checkin, airport to taxi, taxi to hotel... :)

There's a $60 difference between the Pelican with dividers and without so I thought I'm better off getting a well padded lowepro backpack-cum-divider instead.

The Pelican for your complete gear... then a big backpack for carrying?

Or a smaller backpack to house part of your gear?

jerrytieng
02-09-2007, 02:13 PM
@Dinzie

All gear inside the big backpack. Big backpack into the Pelican (no dividers). Pelican cable-locked inside the car. :)

I'll stick to my Toploader 75 and a couple of lens cases when shooting - I like it for the ability to 'quickdraw' the camera when street shooting.

jerry, do you plan to check-in the pelican or hand-carry with you? if hand-carry, the pelican 1510 is the only one that fits your needs (with wheels, max carry-on size) but you wont be able to fit a backpack into it. i've tried.

another option is the lowepro omni pro (http://lowepro.com/Products/Hard_and_Soft_Shell/classic/Omni_Pro_and_Pro_Extreme.aspx) and the omni traveler (http://lowepro.com/Products/Hard_and_Soft_Shell/classic/Omni_Traveler_and_Traveler_Extreme.aspx). yun nga lang.. both have no wheels.

Hi Kai, thanks for the heads up. Yes, I've read about the 1510 being the maximum allowable size for carry-on baggage.

I'm contemplating between a 1650 with the giant Pro Trekker in it or 2 1510's with their standard padded dividers.

I read earlier that you just got one recently, do you mind taking a pic of it fully loaded and sharing it here? :)

@jerry,

Another thing you may want to consider is how much your pelican case will weigh with all your gear in it. I recently bought a 1560 and it barely made the local cut off for Philippine Airlines with all my gear and of course the clothes and other stuff I bring along.

I think it's worse with travel within the US (which has a lower limit compared to travel in and out of the country) which limits the weight per bag.

But if this is not an issue, my rule when it comes to bags is bigger is always better, at least we have room for any additional gear we may buy in the future.

Joey Zaballero
02-10-2007, 06:57 AM
My 1560 will fit;

In the main area (with padded compartments)
2 camera bodies with lens attached (30D / 350D)
100-300mm Sigma lens (hood reversed)
50mm lens
Flip strobo frame
ST-E2
2 flashes (550EX/580EX)
2 omnibounce
Filter case (square) with polarzing filter and UV filter for lenses
portable hard drive with CF card reader
separate CFcard reader with USB cable
Charger for both cameras (sharing single cable)
IR trigger for studio shoots
Visible Dust cleaning kit
universal adapter (bulky rectangular one)
Radios

On the lid organizer
Lens pen
Ballpen
E2 Flashlight
cleaning kit (blower/liquid/lintless swipes)
Extra tripod mount plates
assortment of cables
etc.

Before I installed my lid organizer I fit everything into the main compartment and then put my computer on top also (small 12.1 inch laptop). Everything must have weighed slightly over PAL's limit for domestic flights of 20kg for check in baggage.

Yes, I checked it in. If you ar going to hand carry it you don't need a pelican, but I made sure I insured the contents first.

Bags everywhere in and out of the house. It starts like a syndrome. When afflicted, it's just hard not to buy a new one. Even if we have tons already. My bags are kept inside of what? Of another bag of course. Just so I can save space in my cabinet. Hilarious isn't it?
But this gave me an idea. Why not have another cabinet so I can buy more bags?!!! Wahaha. I think that's what I'll do. Hmmmmm.

ah yes, from generic brand shoulder bags, to tamracs, to crumplers...my cabinet is getting filled with bags.

@edilbert

I've been using a customary barge for months now. The upside is you can fill it with so many stuff, I've tried camera, accessories and a laptop in one trip. Then a camera and grip, flash, battery, extra clothes and toiletries and enough room for a cap and towel. The
camera compartment can also be removed for added space and comes with a removable
belt strap for the support. And tons of padding (which is good and bad)

Now the downside, the bag alone already has enough weight that added equipment
makes it even heavier. And when its full, it really is full and screams I'm a big bag.
Another thing is you can't use small pad locks on the zippers as there are no holes
to latch the locks.

HTH :)

I can have 3 bags which i use according to the type of gear I am going to bring. Most of the time, two of them are just kept in plastic to avoid dust from accumulating. One thing that I can say is that it is better to buy branded bags than unbranded ones if you ever decide to sell them.

I guess the reason for this is on the purpose of the bag itself. I myself have bought quite a number of bags but it's not because of craving, but rather due to necessity. In my case, I started out with an entry level camera with kit lens, so I don't need a big bag for it. But as I develop my skills and focusing on a particular style of photography, I realize that I need a bag that can fit all my gears in, as well as other personal stuff that I need for that shoot. Thus, I end up buying another bag.

People buy bags as their needs change. Throughout your photographic career / hobby, you'll find that your needs would change as well as the applications you will use your cameras for. These along with your personal preferences would dictate your requirements for a bag. For some people though, collecting bags by themselves become a pleasant hobby. I have a few myself but I have never bought a camera backpack. I find that before you're able to access your camera in your backpack, the photo opportunity has passed as you have to take off the bag from your back, open it and take out your stuff.I can imagine a backpack would be quite useful if you had to run with all your gear inside.

I used to have more than half-a-dozen bags, all of them Lowepro, about 4 backpacks and a couple of shoulder bags. Until I realized that I actually hated carrying a camera bag, and the only time I really needed one was when I was traveling out of town.

Now I only have two, a Lowepro Fastpack 350 for traveling with a laptop, and a small Tamrac shoulder bag. Though I'm looking to get another shoulder bag that's slightly larger than the Tamrac I have, when I want to bring all my gear, yet leave my laptop.

From the video's I saw on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nB0-AaTH9hA), I thought the Tenba Messenger was the one, until I dropped by Digital Walker earlier today, and I saw it in person - it's waaay too big for what I wanted. Sayang.

The Tenba website lists a 'small' and 'medium' version, but the sales guy says they only carried the one size, and they weren't sure which one it was.

I might have to take a look at the Lowepro Nova series or something similar.

I have a freebie Shoulder Lowepro bag from the camera store and last year I bought a Lowepro FastPack 350. I've realized its only good for overnight and has only a few dividers. So lately I decided to buy a Lowepro AW FlipSide 400, more dividers, more packets and its good for a day shoot, even my 14" laptop fits in. I'm starting to have this Camera Bag Accumulation Syndrome just like you guys. hehe..

Just got one of the new Nat Geo Africa bags - almost the same size as my Earth Explorer pouch
