View Full Version : EB expectations
Princess Jarlyn Young 02-20-2008, 10:32 PM Hi there guys!
just thought of doing this thread to see/ hear what your expectations are of an EB.. just wondering.. :) probably next time, we can do what you expect/ suggest in the EB's that you would be attending.. who knows. :)
so list them down. :)
diegodanila 02-20-2008, 10:58 PM lots of SHOOTING...SHOOTING...SHOOTING!!!
Can we also organize an EB for a photoshop tutorials???
cedricvalera 02-20-2008, 11:05 PM It would be great to have some photographers give short lectures on their areas of expertise.
Ron dela Luna 02-20-2008, 11:22 PM I would like to play with everyones gear. Hmmm, that didn't sound quite right. Let me try again...
It would be great if Members / Canon / Nikon could sponsor an EB and provide all the exotic lenses, accessories, etc so that we can "test" out the gear before we buy them.
Or another idea is to have a EB Tiangge. Since we're not allowed to post items for sale maybe during this type of EB we could bring our gears for sale or trade.
Chris Palma 02-21-2008, 12:25 AM To Meet Beautiful Models! hahahaha.......Lots of Shoots!...
Edilbert S. Corsame 02-21-2008, 10:02 AM I think there should be a constructive CC, assessment or whatever you call that after the EB. I find it unfortunate that after an EB, people will just post their shots and everyone else will just say "oh nice shots.... galeng... ganda ng model, here's my share" , etc. when in fact they're not (read: not a nice shot, awkward poses, not-so-good-looking models supposedly for glamour/fashion shots (without a hint of modelling potential, sorry)). I'm also guilty of this crime, hehehe.
I think, more than just the enjoyment of spending time with fellow photographers, learning should be a primary objective in EBs... and what better way to learn than by commenting objectively and constructively on our photos.
Just my 1 cent worth... hehehe.
ciao!
Jeruel B. Ibaņez 02-21-2008, 10:14 AM I agree with Edilbert. :)
One way to enhance our skills and knowledge is when someone or somebody would honestly point out the things that need improvement in each of our images [let's say three from each member].
However, it is also taken cared of by the DPP magazine, but during EB's could be a different one.
Part of the EB that should not be missed out is the getting-to-know-each-other portion.
A lecture on certain subject of interest is always a much expected part of the EB for learning purposes.
Ronald Alarcon 02-21-2008, 12:02 PM EB is supposed to be sharing of knowledge and not payabagan ng gear... it would be meaningfull to all members if we learn something from that EB.
WilsonCo 02-21-2008, 12:43 PM Camaraderie :)
Cezar H. Zarate, Jr. 02-21-2008, 01:00 PM Photography lectures
Shoot! shot and shoot!
Sau_Potonia 02-21-2008, 01:12 PM Itinerary would be nice before any EB should take place...
Darryl Ong 02-21-2008, 01:15 PM would be a lot better if we end it with a drinking session...
Paul Julius Arca 02-21-2008, 01:28 PM i second sir darryl! :)
seniors/masters to have a little talk and guide newbies...knowledge/experience sharing...
ryan_saldua 02-21-2008, 01:33 PM how about EB camp? ^_^
pau bengero 02-21-2008, 02:02 PM - Meeting new friends, widen your network
- I agree that a C&C should always follow an EB shoot, so we can all learn from each other and at the same time improve in this craft.
Aly_Reyes 02-21-2008, 02:17 PM I want an EB where I will just participate and not organize.
Lorenzo Diņo Jr. 02-21-2008, 02:51 PM Good Itenerary,
Good Company,
Good Clean Fun.... (but, will always be better if BEER is involved just to loosen up a bit.. haven't been to an EB with booze eh.... ) :D
Roland R. Roldan 02-21-2008, 03:27 PM EB is supposed to be sharing of knowledge and not payabagan ng gear... it would be meaningfull to all members if we learn something from that EB.

True, I remember during the early years of emails/internet, the old ph-photo forum/group organized an EB at Shangri-la EDSA and it was a total success! Why? All topics are on compositions, how-to's, how to improve pictures I took and getting-to-know the photographer. Rarely are camera models mentioned. We had lots of fun. But the following EBs, it became, "this is my latest DSLR/gear, what's yours?" "Mine costs P100,000.00 and look at my L-lens" The people with only point and shoots/analog cameras were isolated and it spelled doom for the succeeding EBs
MarkVillegas 02-21-2008, 10:46 PM A photography, Lighting and photoshop workshop from Pros would do ^_^
Oh! and something like the Cool Hats of South shooters last christmas party is nice. maybe it would be a lot easier to remember fellow DPPers that way.
Princess Jarlyn Young 02-21-2008, 11:48 PM interesting inputs guys.. noting them all down! :)
erwinjasonmendoza 02-22-2008, 01:24 AM i second sir darryl! :)
i third!
giancunanan 02-22-2008, 01:55 AM My expectations in an EB are
1. Meet and chat with fellow photographers
2. Learn tips from the vets/experts
3. Practice shooting
4. Learn from the experience
5. Have something to show afterwards
basil carating 02-22-2008, 04:54 AM I want an EB where I will just participate and not organize.
THEN, IT'S ONLY HALF AN EB! what's an EB if not organized by the CEO (Chief Eb Organizer). accept it-it's your destiny..
jake_amora 02-22-2008, 09:02 AM would be a lot better if we end it with a drinking session...
as expected, you are the one to suggest this... heheh...
i agree, this will solve the whole getting to know portion.
Anthony Olazo 02-22-2008, 10:13 AM probably EBs set as party, no gears just food and booze
Winston Baltasar 02-22-2008, 12:39 PM THEN, IT'S ONLY HALF AN EB! what's an EB if not organized by the CEO (Chief Eb Organizer). accept it-it's your destiny..
Amen!
Winston Baltasar 02-22-2008, 12:40 PM would be a lot better if we end it with a drinking session...
I second that emotion!:D
abumagbanua 02-23-2008, 04:35 PM expect it to be fun and fulfilling. shoot shoot and friends, be it old or new!
edison.sia 02-24-2008, 01:37 AM i expect an EB to be something fun and lots of learning.
1. Its a place for newbies, amateurs to meet up with professionals and shoot without any pressure.
2. Learning for newbies to see what other photographers shoot, how they shoot, and why they shoot that specific subject. (I know a lot of newbies are shy and afraid to meet other photographers for fear of criticism).
3. Its a place to meet new friends.
4. Its a way to go out and shoot without fear of being robbed. There is strength in numbers.
5. Its also a way to enable lurkers to start posting in the forums.
6. Its a way to practice your skills.
7. Its a way to have fun and relax and also relieve your stress.
8. To get to go to new places.
9. To test out other peoples gears.
Aly_Reyes 02-24-2008, 07:02 AM THEN, IT'S ONLY HALF AN EB! what's an EB if not organized by the CEO (Chief Eb Organizer). accept it-it's your destiny..
Amen!
Thanks for your vote of confidence, Unkol Basil and Koya Winston!!! I better come up with an EB on how to organize EBs so that I can spread my destiny. nyahaha....
Derick_Gamboa 02-24-2008, 07:15 AM I want an EB where I will just participate and not organize.

mark_imbong 02-27-2008, 08:10 AM sadly, i've never been able to join a DPP EB since i signed up for the forum here. but with all the suggestions that have been coming up in this thread, i feel that do have to start meeting the people who make up this fun group.
while i do see the intention behind others' suggestions of having gear-sharing, i'd have to agree with what a couple of people here said when they expressed their concern over having those who don't have DSLRs (or those who have them but aren't as well adept in using them) feel just a little bit left out.
i think that at the bottom of it all, an EB is meant to really allow people to meet others who share in the same hobby/passion they have. in my case, i'd really appreciate meeting more seasoned photogs who can candidly and openly share their tricks-of-the-trade with relative photo newbies like me.
it may not come in the form of "what's your gear?" or "what's your next upgrade?", but more of "when it comes to (blank) photography, here are some things i can suggest for you to improve..." or "i heard you're interested in getting a (blank), here are my thoughts on that idea...".
right now, i guess i'll be pretty satisfied with getting-to-know-you type of itinerary, partly because i haven't been able to join any EB yet. later on, i can see EBs where veterans share their knowledge and give critiques to more rookie shooters.
i see EBs as a "retention strategy" to the DPP group. if you manage to build a network for yourself, then the less chance for you to decide to "leave", and the more value you are able to add to the hobby in the long-term.
hope to meet you all (or as many as i can) in one of our future EBs!
donna_lee 02-27-2008, 10:47 AM so you guys want a DRINKING EB! hahahahah :) hihih.
Just in time, they opened up a Beer Photography thread. LOL:Grin:
rommel rivera 02-28-2008, 01:27 AM eb for me is to
1. meet new friends that share the same passion "either photography, cars etc"
2. learn and share things "ideas, techniques etc"
3. test new gears

Beer would be nice :) food too! Beautiful women? why not.
RameloGusilatar 02-29-2008, 08:21 AM Learning --- sharing experience and actual shoots --
allan apungan 02-29-2008, 09:25 AM EB that doesn't need to bring camera like EB for gun shooting or a large dinner for everyone just to make it different one.
Bon Salinas 03-01-2008, 02:41 AM EB connotes for (E)njoy it with (B)eer! :)
WilsonCo 03-01-2008, 12:41 PM @bob,
Hahahahaha!
Dohn Nalumen 03-05-2008, 12:24 PM EB is supposed to be sharing of knowledge and not payabagan ng gear... it would be meaningful to all members if we learn something from that EB.
I agree. That is why newbies like myself tends to shy away from the EBs kasi pag nag labasan na ng Camera feeling ko na oOP na ako. Kaya nga sabi ko rin kay winston sa Masskara EB, I choose na dun umattend para 1> may home court advantage kung baga and 2> medyo less ang angasan sa equipment.
On the other hand, if you want a lecture time EB na may masarap na food, especially sa QC area, I can offer our place for venue (www.kapetasyo.multiply.com). Free ko na ang venue at may kasama pang free flowing coffee. KKB na lang tayo sa food. :D
Ronald Alarcon 03-05-2008, 12:54 PM Let's set an EB na as per Dohn free flowing coffe daw!
Princess Jarlyn Young 03-05-2008, 05:19 PM wow dohn! that's a great idea :)where's your location? probably we can do an EB at your place.. i hope it is in metro manila.. hihih
mitzpicardal 03-05-2008, 05:21 PM .. i hope it is in metro manila.. hihih
Thats in Freedom Bar Anonas so i hope free flowing beers too :D.
Princess Jarlyn Young 03-05-2008, 05:26 PM Thats in Freedom Bar Anonas so i hope free flowing beers too :D.
hhahahaaha!!! how can we share ideas if we get so drunk? :D
Barbarra Lee 03-05-2008, 06:08 PM Picnic!!!
A BIG BIG picnic!!! Maraming CLOVER Cez ha!!!
Jeff Vergara 03-05-2008, 06:10 PM san mig beer flowing and lots of crispy pata.
Barbarra Lee 03-05-2008, 06:16 PM Why not do something that will make GOD smile, since Holy Week's just around the corner. Something that will not hurt anybody's belief and religion on this matter. (Oh ayan, serious ha). Can be a medical mission, or a feeding program for the less fortunate area. We dont actually have to go out of town. In MM alone there are so many children/families who need our help. Assign those who can document the event so that the people who'll be giving away the "in kinds" (food or medicine, used clothing, etc) wont have to carry their gears with them, thus might only be cumbersome.
This will put ourselves into the picture and will create a deeper meaning into it; in the same way that it will make us feel how it is to be in their shoes for a while, and be grateful for how blessed we actually are.
I thought this would greatly involve the DPPers while a co-DPPer is shooting the act. It's such a serious involvement and encourages social awareness, too. I've nothing against eating and drinking EB's, but we can do that anytime, can't we? There are those who are starving and also need to be clothed, and will be immensely appreciative of what we have to share.
At the end of the day this will surely leave everyone a smile on their faces. Alot better than the picture-worthy smiles. Don't you think?
Rj Olaso 03-07-2008, 06:26 PM True, I remember during the early years of emails/internet, the old ph-photo forum/group organized an EB at Shangri-la EDSA and it was a total success! Why? I agree with you Sir Roland.:)
Dohn Nalumen 03-08-2008, 04:45 AM hhahahaaha!!! how can we share ideas if we get so drunk? :D
Actually, It is a bar by night, Coffee shop by Day.Though we have beers too kung gusto nyo. Free flowing brew coffee lang yun ha. Not the fancy once *blush*More info: www.kapetasyo.multiply.com
Reydian_Tianero 03-08-2008, 05:04 AM I think this is one of the reasons why a brand and even model specific EB at that happens. which has some pros and cons, but that's for another discussion.
I guess EBs just have to be specific on its purpose.
Photo EB
Sharing EB
or Just plain... EB more friendship have been formed because of these EBs.
So I would expect participants NOT to shy away from other participants and approach and introduce yourselves. :)
I agree with you Sir Roland.:)
marley manongtong 03-12-2008, 01:05 PM lots of SHOOTING...SHOOTING...SHOOTING!!!
Can we also organize an EB for a photoshop tutorials???
this would really be awesome... :)
Henry_Anima_II 03-13-2008, 03:08 PM knowledge and technique sharing are to be expected too. Gaining friends is a huge plus.

ciao!
i agree... maybe you guys can suggest or indtroduce a standard outline or criteria that we could follow on how to comment and at the same time some how make it as a guideline for future compositions...
just my two centavos...
mon mamaril 03-20-2008, 09:15 PM aside from tips and c&c's, i suggest for a swapmeet... so that more enthusiasts could get a hand of "cheaper" hand-me-downs and others may dispose off their used stuff... thanks!!!
alov.a.capati 03-21-2008, 12:49 AM of course meet new people with the same interests..
learn a lot from the masters.. guru... experienced...
new techniques... different approach in certain situations...
more importantly...
hope you guys (pertaining to the pros, gurus, masters, gods), would be gentle, accomodating, open... to newbies like me.
expected naman na mahihiya kami... but nevertheless.. sana youll give us a chance...
thank you
Lei Sarmiento 03-21-2008, 01:41 AM Call it weird but I love shooting with my 2 prosumer cams better than my SLR and DSLR.
On the few camera club meetings I've joined, I liked seeing people bring their PnS cams during EBs so I can chat with them with techniques and the likes.
It kinds of equalizes us because we don't have to focus on the lenses and the cameras but more on the techniques - composition, lighting, metering, exposure, cam modes.
RameloGusilatar 03-21-2008, 01:41 PM This seem interesting, hope to have an EB then and bring my PnS as well : )

RameloGusilatar 03-21-2008, 03:03 PM Discussion or presentation of techniques or principles of photography. Constructive, motivating evaluation ( vs. criticism ... ). There should be points in constructive-evaluative and "building" comments, and no points on un-constructive and demotivating feedback. Welcome commendations and recommendations.
The string: "Lecture - demo - practice - and - evaluation" and add in-between. Just my thoughts : )
Henry_Anima_II 04-01-2008, 04:06 PM For the past EB's I've been to, I am amazed by those more experienced photographers who willingly shares their techniques... Make newbies feel more comfortable.... I admire them for that...
Melwyn B. Alamag 04-01-2008, 08:06 PM how bout an on the spot photo contest if we can a printer to sponsor the event. maybe first 20 entries :D
