I was at the EOS400D launch earlier tonight and somehow I managed to wrangle an EOS 400D off someones hand. It so happens that the lens attached to it was an EF 50mm F1.2L.

So I took off the guys 580EX flash from the camera, as well as his CF card and replaced it with mine. I then ran off to the models ( him running after me, realizing I just took off with his baby  )

I managed to fire some shots. All available light. 50mm F1.2 full open. ISO200 (the ISO100 images were on his CF now I realize. )

Post processing: minor levels. cropping, and USM with A:100, R:1, T:0 @ 2100px by 1500px then reduced for web with no further sharpening.

That 50mm is sweet - backlighting sans the flare. Now where did I put that piggy bank...

:X :X :X

Hahaha...I knew it! I shouldn't have asked. :D No switching for the moment. Got to get me one of those 18-200 first! I know you're enjoying it so far Sir Dave.

And that's wide open. With the 85 and now the 50 joining the ranks at f/1.2, what's next, the 35? :D Think am postponing my son's preschooling next year  Not! But am already tempted to rob a bank for the 35 1.4L :)

Those pics are awesome Randy, you should have them printed!

Of course meron ang NIKON... AIS-mount nga lamang, paki-check nga ninyo kung meron pang matitisod na ganitong lente in the Nikon-AIS manual lineups. I did tried one here in KSA with a friend's D70, disabled ang metering, but low-light capability is simply awesome, and the viewfinder suddenly became brighter. I guess it will meter well with the D200, manual focussing nga lang... but who cares if it provides you with a very bright and clear viewfinder.

O s'ya... request na sa Nikon na i-convert and old-time favorite na 50mm f/1.2 AIS to an AF-VR lens. Much better if they can make it similar to Pentax's new 70mm pancake lens...

Yan na ang dream lens! I was able to play with it too last night, AF was fast and accurate even in very loooow light! Sige lahat sila nakaflash, no need for this one! This was the highlight for me, more than tha 400D itself :)

Say all you want, but aren't you just a little bit peeved Canon users have more lenses in their line up?

Ok Cheers!

Somebody just bought my 70-200 F2.8 IS USM lens so I'm in the market again. I will wait for this lens or settle with the 70-200 F4 IS because I've had it with the hefty glass. I think I got shorter carrying this bazooka on all the ops just to take less than 10 shots out of 200 in a typical outdoor shoot.

How much will the 50/1.2L lens cost? -- so that I know which of my body parts to sell...

And Canon's history includes the legendary 50 1.0L

Some images from the full-frame 1Ds Mark II (http://www.pbase.com/image/49869309) and 5D (http://photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=635539). Online they say it is available in November this year for 1600USD - (dashboard > calculator > 1600x50= ~80000 add to that 12% EVAT + reseller markup + import duties + stocking cost + local tax...) :D
