@ Sir Ron the restau you are pertaining to is Cafe' Leona, just in front of her statue amidst Calle Crisologo.. :D (vigan)

another restau within the area is I think Villa Angela (vigan)... havent tried both but read good reviews...

but, as Sir Ron said, there are the trusted fastfood chains around... eheheheheh... Max's is just infront of Cafe' Leona...

theres a store beside Cafe' Leona, selling Bibingkang Ilocos.... yummmmyy! Tiongson or Tongson.. really cant remember... ahahahaha.. to think i was just there yesterday... ansarap eh! ++ chichacorn...

havent been to Laoag... maybe Ron will introduce me to his buddy there so i can get rooms to stay in when i go there.... ehehehehe...

Pagudpud (2x)... hmmm... havent been to Cape Bojeador (lighthouse) so i dunno where its located... Windmills in Bangui... Kabigan Falls (30min trek to the woods) be ready to have your feet wet.... (if the water in the river is a bit high, its knee high, but if its not, about ankle high).... theres also a surf spot in pagudpud, around 1KM from Maira-Ira (a.k.a Blue Lagoon.... picturesque beach i've been to... *sigh*) called Kapuluan Vista Resort.... just in case you wanna shoot surfing and if there are surfers at that time..... (as what i've heard, summer is not that of a surfing season, since winds are not that strong....) but theres no harm in checking out the place since you're already within the area....

in La Union, I bet you wont miss San Juan beach resort in urbiztondo if you wanna shoot surfing :) .... tried it once... but i thought, im better of behind a camera than being wiped out... ahahahahahaha! MidWay... yuummmyy! theres also a known Halo-halo restau within the city... forgot the name... hihihihi.... Halo-Halo Iloko?

just additional info that might help in planning what to bring and what to wear during the trip...

hope this infos help....

@ Sir Ron... your from Dagupan? enge TUPIG!? :)

props to Ron, this'll be one great getaway!!!!

On the lingua franca... I didnt say anything wrong... Anyway, for purposes of Conformity sacrificing Creativity and Understanding with a great disregard to Nationalism and Filipino Regionalism against my will-- I changed the language to English already.. (Huh... ! Just playing devils advocate: I just wonder why do we have to do this the American ways (I pity those people who cant even understand syntax, english grammar and language usage since they will look funny using English Language in this forum, huhu), I havent met any american or english anyway in this Forum....hehe.. just a piece of my mind for further evaluation --- at times rules become obsolete and need to change to cope up with the challenges of the times. I feel this forum must bind and grow the photogs not via a foreign culture but in the country's own national and regional dialects, culture and interests. Peace! hehehe)

9:30AM ETA – Vigan City
Photoshoot the following:
Old Civilization Structures
Vigan Church
Baluarte Vigan

2:30PM Leave Luna Shrine
3:00PM ETA – Currimao Beaches (Photoshoot – Pangil Shores – 30 Mins)
3:30PM Leave Currimao Beaches
4:00PM ETA – Batac (Photoshoot Marcos Heritage- must beat the 4pm deadline otherwise it will
close by 4pm)
Snacks in Batac: Must try Batac Empanada and Batac Longanisa
5:00PM Leave Batac
5:30PM Sunset Photoshoot (Paoay Church and Paoay Lake)
6:30PM ETA – Laoag City
Photoshoot of Laoag Entrance by Night
Check in
7:30PM Dinner/Fellowship – G3 Sikatuna Resto (Must try Bagbaguis and Tuna Meals)
Photoshoot – Laoag at Nightcomments lang on the itinerary.

why shoot the coral formations of currimao at 3pm? light will be too harsh and you'll end up with mediocre shots. i think it would be better if you shoot Paoay Church first and finish up your day in Currimao. i would also check the tide tables for that day and see if low tide is around sunset. you will only appreciate the beauty of Currimao's rocks from the tidal side and not from the road.

4:30AM – Leave Laoag for Burgos
5:00AM – ETA – Burgos Town (Photoshoot Wind Mills and Sunrise)
6:00AM – Leave Burgos for Patapat Location Photoshoot
Breakfast (Pandesal at Kape sa gilid ng Kalsada)

Maira Ira Beach Photoshoot
Patapat Bridge Photoshoot
10:00AM – ETA Pagudpud Beach
Photoshoot
Beach Bum
12:00N – Lunch (Restaurants Serve Lunch)
Grilling of Food (Ron is going to Grill – depende kung anong mabili dun~! hehe)
Beach Bum
4:30PM – Sunset in Pagudpud
6:00PM – Leave Pagudpud for Laoag
8:00PM - ETA – Laoag City
Dinner/Fellowship – G3 Sikatunalight makes a big difference. shoot landscapes one hour after sunrise and you'll miss the colors that'll make your photos winners. suggest that you shoot first and have breakfast after. better to shoot all the key places until around 9am and have late breakfast / brunch.

4:30pm is not sunset. sunset for march 22 will be at 6:07pm. the best light will happen at a 30 minutes around this. so be prepared to leave late. that is if you want to get really nice images.

those are just suggestions ha. from experience lang. don't mean to impose on your itinerary.

Thanks for the feedback Jay...

Itinerary is really Flexi... Its tentative awaiting for the confirmation of people who will guide us there and lead us to the places from Vigan til the rest of the destinations then we will do the shoot sequence and timing from there. This also need agreement among travelers what to pursue and not to pursue in terms of itinerary as there are really many places to go, visit whether shooting or not.

Feel free to comment and give advises-- will appreciate more input so to make this trip a great one for everybody.

BTW, should you know other places not in the itinerary but of great interest for everyone, will appreciate if you can tip it to us. Thanks again.

have a great day.

Gaya ng sinabi ni Ron, since our itinerary and timing for shooting landscapes and beaches is important, I thought we should list down what we should and should not pursue, and where we should be at what time of the day.

For me this is my wish list:

March 20, Thursday:

morning shoot
-------------
old civilization structures
Vigan church
Bantay church & bell tower
pottery making

mid-day shoot
-------------
Luna Shrine
Marcos Heritage in Batac
Paoay church & Lake

sunset shoot
------------
Currimao Beach & coral formations

March 21, Friday:

early morning shoot
-------------------
Sand Dunes of Suba
Golf Course

morning shoot
-------------
Fort Ilocandia Waterfront

mid-day shoot
-------------
event photoshoot

March 22, Saturday:

early morning shoot
-------------------
bangui Windmills
Burgos Light house

morning shoot
-------------
Maira-ira beach
Falls
Patapat bridge

sunset shoot
------------
Pagudpud Beach

Early morning shoot from 5am-630am
morning shoot from 7am-9am
sunset shoot from 530pm-630pm

Better if we shoot everything we can in the morning before taking breakfast.
All churches, cityscapes, indoor shoots we can do on mid-day.

And since our destination are very scenic places, isnt it better if we have a female model we can shoot for dramatic portraits??? naisip ko lang po, hehehe.

Ron, anong araw at oras ang alis ng van(kung marami ang sasabay) from Manila going to Ilocos? ang meeting day and time kasi natin is Thursday morning. Kung oras ng alis namin dito is just enough to make it to our meeting place on time, baka puro kami wala tulog nun. Unless napakaluwag ng van na pwede kami mahiga. hehehe. At sana at least 8 persons man lang ang makasabay sa van para hindi gaano mabigat sa bulsa

Dude renting a van with 8 passenger is definitely not a good idea... Yeah i agree with you.. its heavy on the pocket.. If that would be the case i would suggest to stick with our original plan which is the carpool.. We still have one more week to finalize everytihing.. so guys.. please sign up as early as possible.. we need your full cooperation..

@Pao,
You are right. If we are 8 coming from Manila, It would be better if I just bring my car which can accommodate 4 and another one from our group will bring his car which can accommodate another 4 to lessen on cost. That way we will just be sharing the gas. That was the original plan right?
The van only came out as an option because of possible dislocation on transpo incase a lot will sign up. But the looks of it, by monday afternoon, if no additional photo buddies will sign up, we are better off finalizing car pool, as I have to confirm with the rent a van owner also if its a go or not. hehe.

@Mike,
Should Leave Manila Thursday 3am to catch up with schedule:
7am in La Union and 9am in Vigan. Get a good rest starting Monday until Wednesday so the 3am is okay. Anyway, You will enjoy the shoot all day and will be able to rest well in Laoag on nights that we are staying there (3 straight nights) unless you will go drinking with me til around 3am. haha.

any other suggestions on transpo? If we were planning to chip in for 1T worth of gas, i think the 2500 per person for the van is worth it, considering the long travel, etc etc. It would be easier for us to get off and shoot where ever we want as well.

Even if i bring a car, we we still be short on transpo. Any other suggestions?

Hopefully other DPPers will join as well. Btw Ron and the other guys have been working their asses of to get us special shooting privileges, hopefully it pushes through. And our Guidemasters will give us a tour not like anything else. So hopefully other people will join this trip.

what if we all just ride with the van so if there's ten of us, that's 2,000.00 pesos each. That's already a good deal since none of us will get tired of driving. We can all afford to take a nap inside the van while on the road :)

And Leslie's right, it would be easier for us travelling the whole trip.

actually necessity kasi talaga ang CPL at ND pag landscape shoots, especially sa mga beaches, mountains, falls, skies.. that's if you want your shot to really look good. I hope it will be, hehehehe.

Another option for you ann is the cokin system. Filters will range from Php300 - 1000. The Holder and the adapter ring will be less than Php 1000. It does have a circular polarizer as well for i think Php1000.

Island Photo along gamboa sells this.

Okay Ann... See on the road trip...

Our Meeting Place is MC DONALDS In San Fernando City, La Union at 7am. From there we proceed to Candon, Vigan, etc.. If you dont have anything to do in Dagupan, I would suggest you stay na lang overnight in San Fernando La Union. Dagupan to La Union is roughly around 65kms drive. Travelling from Manila to Dagupan vs. Manila to La Union is the same. haha. Cost of Hotel is the same, unless you are staying overnight with your friends or relatives in dagupan.

Relax ka pa in the morning.. hehehe.
Hotel suggestions in La Union would be the following: Sea and Sky Penthouse rooms. You can get it at 1,200, to 1,500 overnight. Overlooking the beach and the pool. Cozy place to stay and relax.

But if you want to taste the World's tastiest Milkfish, by all means visit dagupan and I will tour you and your husband around.

See you.

VI. Transportation:
Initially it was suppose to be a car pool.
1) Wilson Brings his car with a Side Trip to Baguio
2) Ron Brings his car from Dagupan
3) Ann Tolentino Brings her car with the Husband
4) Leslie, Francis, Conrad, Paolo, Mike N, Mike DR, and Noel are coming from Manila and should be accommodated in 1 Car.
5) Ron Catalan got a proposal for Van costing 20T for the whole trip. Assuming 8 People, it is 2,500 per person (if Ron is joining the van)

Proposal 2: Ann, Ron and Wilson will bring their Car… all meeting up in La Union.
For the 7 People who will be coming from Manila, lets kindly give each of us this day to check a Revo or an Innova that is self driven for us to rent. We might be able to get good rates from our Friends, Relatives, Neighbors, Officemates on this especially if it’s a family members’ Innova. (ideally we look from among our friends a Revo or Innova car for around 5-6T for the duration) Gas will be at 6T and everybody rotates in the driving. The 7 people can comfortably fit in these kinds of vehicles so there will only be 1 car to bring you guys. Once you reach La Union, there should be no problem because I can accommodate either your luggages or 2 passengers in my car. With 12T total cost, it is 1,700 per head.

So Lets check if we can – EACH OF US get a quote on one revo or innova and post it here. Then we get the best rate.

Will await for your replies so we can finalize things.

Again, this is going to be an exciting Caravan. Enjoy the trip as much as you will enjoy the destinations. See you all and Im so excited to shoot with all of you..

Til later….(need your input everybody so we have choices)

Ei, the one I recommended is owned by a friend here in Dagupan: Van 20T including Gas, with 2 drivers. We just have to handle the cost of the TollFees and feed the drivers with us of course. Presyong Kababayan and Presyong Kapatid.

Ei Guys, my share for today as I was really trying to see if we can get a good deal pa more than the above:
Today, I got another quote for a Van (choose Super Grandia, Grandia or Innova)
5T for the first day, and 4,500 for the succeeding days. Excluding Gas.
Quote from Jun Mejia - 09228700208 they are in Van Business also in Manila.

Hehe... Let me take a look at your share today... Post in your canvass.

Guys,First - Im having difficulty accessing this site... in case it failed all the details are also in my blog at www.roncatalan.comSecond - The Agenda:Van leaves at 3AM of Thursday (kindly buy your food na and eat at Mc Do before you leave. The Van can take brief stop overs along Expressway, Tarlac Gas Stations, Urdaneta Gas Stations for wiwi break but should not take long so that you will reach La Union on Time (15mins on a stop over should be good enough.) Meeting Place is MC DONALDS (24 hours) along Edsa Cor. Quezon Avenue. (Near MRT Station) The van will be there at 1AM. WILL POST THE PLATE NUMBER, COLOR AND DRIVER NAME HERE TOMORROW NIGHT. Angkas na lang sa van then i will meet you up in San Fernando City, La Union. Ann Tolentino will be there also with her companions so with Wilson Co and companion. The Van is 18Seater including the driver. But as you can see you are all 11 in the van (plus the driver) unless you will bring last minute companions.. which seems okay as long as you will enjoy their company. If that is the case, some of you might transfer to Wilsons Car or my car upon our meet up in La Union.Things to Bring:1) Your Photography Gears2) Clothes for Swimming (In Pagudpud and In Currimao)3) Your Medicines if you are taking some maintenance plus some for Fever, Colds, Headaches4) There are pillows there but if you cannot sleep without that Special Body Pillow that you always embrace... feel free to bring that with you.. check in bagage in my car once you reached la union.5) Bring Cash to Pay Accommodation and Food. Credit Cards are acceptable in selected few high end restaurants, hotels and gasoline stations.6) Bring your SunBlocks, Shades and Hats. 7) As much as possible travel light so you can easily move around.8) Sa mga Byahilo, be safe ... take your medicines and bring a pouch bag. hehe9) Shorts paired with a pair of shoes is quite acceptable there. You are tourists anyway.Other details will be announced tomorrow. Thanks.(for the lightcatchers-- nice to wear your uniform on the first day..)

The Team will be back in manila in a few hours and will be ready to share to the world the beauty of Ilocos.

Our gratitude goes to:

1) Mayor Eva Marie Singson-Medina of Vigan City and her Tourism Officer Mr. Edgar for the endorsements and for supporting us in this Activity. The tourist office of Vigan City really did a great job in showing us around.

2) Governor Michael Marcos Keon and his Provincial Tourism Consultant Mr. J. Jimenez for the warm welcome and assistance extended to us in our trip/tour in various places in Ilocos Norte. We had a great time visiting places in Ilocos Norte.

3) Jackie and Florence who helped us secure our booking and stay at Casa Fulgencia, sacrificed a lot to entertain us and for supporting us in our needs in our entire stay in Ilocos Norte. Thanks for the assistance all the way and for the sumptuous "Ilocano Dinner". Will surely miss the drinkings.

4) Ariane and Kit who assisted Jack and Florence in providing support to our needs there in ilocos and by being with us for the satisfaction of our inquiries about ilocos.

5) Special Thanks to Doctor June Orosa (my schoolmate) at the Jo Avila Photography University (Magaling Din Kami) for selflessly volunteering himself to help, assist, tour and host us in Vigan up to Pagudpud. Thanks for that Doc June, The Dinner is great. I love the malaga.

6) Frederick and Driver Dors for understanding us so much and for bringing us back and forth to all those beautiful places featured in our Ilocos Photo Caravan.

7) Wilson, Ning,Ann, Ramon and James for the Convoy and for giving some of us a hitch in the duration of the tour.

8) Villa Del Mar Beach Resort (for accommodating us in Pagudpud). That beautiful sunset has been the fulfillment of our trip.

9) DPP for allowing us to exchange our communications here in the forum.

Meantime, lets wait for the guys to post their pictures in the next few hours. Overall, it was great to meet new friends, continue nurturing the old, learn from everybody and being able to share oneself in this one / common passion for photography.
