Im trying to find out what is the conversion ( if there is any) of the GN in flashguns, Specifically my Sigma 530 DG super, versus its corresponding WattSecond output.

Sorry i could not find any real answers so far, so i hope you guys could help me. I'm asking this because im trying to decide whether to buy a 180w strobe studio lighting package or go strobist. ( or of course get a 300w studio package).

Thanks ahead!

It is my understanding that wattsecond only measure the amount of electrical charge that the capacitors of a flash/strobe system can store. It doesn't take into account how efficiently the flash/strobe system converts the electrical charge to light.

GN, at the very least, is a measure of output (distance of strobe to subject multiplied by aperture needed).

However, some would rather use lumensecond as a better gauge of the output of a flash/strobe.
