I find the subjects too soft in both photos. There is no separation between the suject and the background.

For the 2nd photo, there is too much dead space on the left side of the photo. Cropping the photo would have had better impact.

Hi JM,
To paraphrase something I remember reading somewhere, Painting is about adding (to a blank canvass), photography is about taking out. The simpler the photo, oftentimes, the better. Try simplifying your backgrounds so that the focus is clearly on the subject, without distractions.
