I'm using a Plustek Opticfilm 7200 right now. Scans fast, but dynamic range is a bit low. My older Epson Photo Perfection 4180 scanner does better in this aspect.

D-max isn't too great at 3.3- so there may be difficulty in scanning negatives or slides with extreme contrast or high densities. A touchy issue when scanning traditional BW (but not chromogenic) negatives.

But as far as the scanning goes, it does rather well. Makes really large files- a full jpg at full 7200 resolution goes to around 40mb. Resolution is superb. Grain is well defined. Great value for price.
Don't expect your scans to come out perfect right out of the machine, so to speak. As with almost any scanner, some pp tweaking will improve the image.

Bad news is, this is hard to get locally. Compex is supposed to have it in their shops, but they don't seem to be interested in selling any. None of the shops, and even the main office is helpful.... they will give the impression that they are not interested in selling any. Compex will give you a hard time buying this scanner. In some branches, they're not even aware of the product and will say they don't carry it, even if the item is on their fliers. The one I got (thanks to a friend who found it) was from a store who said that they didn't have it even if the unit was on their display shelf!
