Photoshop Gurus,

How do you do batch resizing? I usually do mine via the Web Photo Gallery function but it came to me that the files produced are just too small. Also, how do you put the copyright text via batch as well?

Look forward to your help guys/ gals! :)

Adobe Bridge.

2. Select the files you want to resize
3. Go to TOOLS>Photoshop>Batch ( or Image Processor),this will open a dialog box

sir Dino,

don't forget to set the CROP area first before doing the batch process. You don't wanna do the cropping after the images have been resized. :)

in resizing images for web use, i use the Image Resizer from Windows Powertoys. it works from the explorer, select the photos, right-click then resize to the desired resolution. btw, no cropping can be done, just plain rescaling. HTH :)

For Canon users, use DPP for batch resizing images.

For Canon users, use DPP for batch resizing images.

I use the Digital Photo Professional, as well, for batch resizing... It's way fast and you can save the pics under new file names in another folder without messing-up your EXIF data.:)

here's a post i made from peyups.com forum, you can also use this to put watermarks and batch resize in PS

how to automate in photoshop

if you already have a generic workflow that you want to apply to a large amount of images then automating in photoshop is a must

step 1: open PS and open any image
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/7692/11681049zd6.th.jpg (http://img201.imageshack.us/my.php?image=11681049zd6.jpg)

step 2: in the ACTIONS PALETTE create a new ACTION, upon creating it will default to RECORD ALL your actions. in my example i have made a PEYUPSACTION and made a bunch of image manipulations such as levels, layers, sharpening, resize, etc.
http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/218/92539618is1.th.jpg (http://img182.imageshack.us/my.php?image=92539618is1.jpg)
http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/8574/31754317ry1.th.jpg (http://img166.imageshack.us/my.php?image=31754317ry1.jpg)

step 3: click on STOP RECORDING button on the actions pallete to FINALIZE your ACTION. close the image then go to FILE > AUTOMATE > BATCH
http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/2201/22108176mf7.th.jpg (http://img245.imageshack.us/my.php?image=22108176mf7.jpg)

step 4: select your action that will do the batch processing and choose your target folder as well as the destination dump folder of the process. your target folder MUST contain the images that you intend to be processed.

http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/6227/89839169vp3.th.jpg (http://img201.imageshack.us/my.php?image=89839169vp3.jpg)

in the event that you want to cancel the batch processing just click on PS and hit ESC button, PS will ask you if you want to cancel the processing and just hit yes

i automate in PS when i want to PP (POST PROCESS) a huge amt of images, usually by the hundreds, when i cover events. though be careful with your automation, no workflow will fit ALL images so you still have to PP some images manually

hope this helps :)

I use the free version of "Picture Resizer", It does both enlarging and reducing.

It has 6 steps:

1. Choosing between resizing a single or multiple images
2. Choosing the Original Image Location
3. Choosing the Save location
4. Choosing the Output size, by percentage or by pixel (it also has other settings for format, DPI, etc)
5. Confirming
6. The actual resizing

Wow. I sound like an advertisement for the program. I do find it really useful though, since i'm not that well versed when it comes to Photoshop, automated programs like these come in very handy :)

how do you usually resize images? i just change the pixel size (through 'image size..') to say, 50% of it's original. the problem i have here is that it's inconsistent.

whenever i load all my photos through adobe bridge -> ACR, then do some cropping from here - the cropped images come out smaller whenever i run it through the batch i created. i would think putting in a more concrete value would be much better, but how do you set it when your source folder contains portrait and landscape oriented images.

i hope this makes sense. hehe..

Hi newbie here, I would like to ask is there a program which would automatically resize the pictures? I have problem in resizing my pictures, if I view it in some software programs they would display the best desired size and picture quality but when I will access it through clicking the folder, the images is somewhat distorted but when you will zoom it, the picture become clearer. Please help how to resize and also list of user friendly programs to resize photos without distorting the image.

Thanks in advance.:)

Hi there Michelle! When you load images like in Photoshop, it is automatically fitted the screen of your monitor depending on what resolution you use. You can still view its actual size just clicking on the actual size button (Photoshop/Windows Picture Viewer). You may use Photoshop, in resizing your images. You can also do it in just 1 click if you want by using "Actions".

Hey! Btw, welcome to DPP!!

To resize images correctly, be sure that the "Constrain Proportions" checkbox is checked.

irfanview is my friend when it comes to resizing. It will identify sides depending on which is longer.

So if you want to resize to 640x480, all you need to do is type 640 as size for the longer size. It wouldnt matter if the photo was in portrait or landscape.

Thank you Jhay!:) I am actually navigating adobe lightroom, picasa and gimp, really tough for a newbie like me:(. I think I have to install other photoshop program or navigate the software provided by canon. Btw, how can I save the picture size and resolution of the picture that is appearing on the screen? Sorry I am really a newbie with this kind of stuff.

No problem. Well, it depends on your screen resolution. For example, if the image is 3872x2592 and it looks like 800+ on your screen then you may resize it to 800+. So it depends on your monitor. Trial and error will do.

Photoscape (thanks to a DPP member who introduced this!) also does resizing by longer side (or shorter side), plus a whole lot of other things like: adding borders, text (watermark), basic adjustments. All this, can be done by batch.

Take a peek at: http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/download.php

Best of all, it's free!!!!
