rumors on the next Fujifilm dslr

There will be a development announcement of the S5 Pro on 25 Sept, preceding Photokina. The donor body is a D200 and all that implies.

yes earl, i also hope that it is priced competitively :D so it may be my next dslr.
looks llike this is the "another nikon dslr" to be launched this year. or maybe another one as a follow up to the d50

only photokina will tell... :)

hmmmm why is the model in the Pic S4 then???

Hi,

Forgive me if you know about this already, but I was just talking with someone from Fujifilm USA who told me the S5 will be announced the day before Photokina. He says they skipped the S4 model number because 4 is an unlucky number in Japan.
He didn't have any information about the sensor-- he said Japan has been very secretive-- but he says the body is vastly improved.

Thom Hogan maybe right, but the picture posted (originated from dpreview) is fake. It's the exact photo made by Phil when he reviewed the D200 with addded Fuji 'things'.

Aris Guerrero

yep the photo was faked. maybe s4 maybe s5, we'll just have to wait for photokina. like i said, these are just rumors. :) and of course most say that thom hogan always have inside info.

If fuji will use the body of D200 with a built-in vertical grip(ala S3pro) with all the speed and performance of D200 and the new super CCD, then it would be a formidable stance of fuji in DSLR market.

It's a very good studio camera Gil or for use on compositions which do not have much time constraints... Like landscapes... For sports, forget it... You can get away with some keepers of course but it would require alot of effort. :D

hmm.. interesting... if fuji addresses the issue of speed and they price it appropriately - say between D200 and D80... then i think we have a conteder in the making :D

Gil Penaflorida

Definitely a contender even at the same price as a D200, i tried using the S3 on 2 occasions one w/buffer upgrade which improve a bit but the write x is really bad when you shoot raw ...... I also tried the wide dynamic range function for me a little bit overkill and makes it slower ...let's wait for the photkina new product report the Fuji deserves the attention

It will utilize CF cards since Fuji just licensed the Nikon D200 body.

Hopefully it will be priced reasonably since it only has 6 megapixels. Also, by the time it is launched, it's cousin, the D200, would probably have gone down some more in price.

I read in the Popular Photography & Imaging magazine the the S5 Pro will cost above $2,000 on its launch. Man, wag naman sana! I'll just go for the D200 pag ganoon.

zandy_marantal

I completely agree Marco.

In the end, the market will determine its price. If it doesn't sell, Fuji would be forced to lower it.

You can buy a new D200 now for $1499 with free shipping. Bili na...

Thta's pretty cool! :) s5 pro looks nice, does it utilize the battery grip too?

I was reading DCmag UK, I got excited when I saw 12mp but its only 6 hehe :)

EDIT: Ohhh it does say 12mp :P but whats S and R?

It's like 2 sets of sensors, one for capturing highlights, and one capturing shadow details.

Think of it as an HDR image within the camera. Same number of pixels, but with increased dynamic range :)

You're getting sleepy :) The is no 1-1 relation between Megapixels and Megabytes. It depends on the compression used.

Just speculating, the JPEG file size would be the same as the a regular 6MP camera but the raw size would probably larger since it contains more information( 12bit or 16bit image).

Been following up on the S5 pro, its supposed to be priced at 1800-1900 usd. With 3 fps on standard dr and 1.5 fps for wide Dr. What do you guys think?

Vince_Villamin
12-08-2006, 02:22 PM
mahal. it should be priced below the D200 to stand a chance of penetrating the market. just my .02

Guys,

The Fuji S5 is already on the Fuji site, as well as on the dpreview http://www.dpreview.com/ site.

Here are some links;

Am I reading the spec right? It says 3fps for [D-RANGE] set to [100%(STD)] and 1.5fps for D-RANGE] set to WIDE (other than [100%(STD)]). Whoa! That's very sslloooww... the D200 is like 5fps. THAT is not an improvement.

I'm kinda getting disappointed here...

levi lacandula
12-09-2006, 01:11 AM
it seems consistent to the other past fuji.. in terms of speed.

what you get in colors (DR).. you sacrifice a bit of speed.

cant wait to try it out.

the next question is.... how much would it cost us?

Marco_Ingco
12-09-2006, 01:19 AM
@Levi - but can't they at least up the 1.5fps to 3fps? Or will that setting (WIDE (other than [100%(STD)])) be rarely used anyway? How do you think this would compare vs the D200?

based from the specs... it seems that the 2 cams were built for different purpose.

im pretty sure fuji would win hands down in studio/lanscape work - which doesnt need high fps... on the other hand, it would be eaten alive by the D200's speed and flash capability:) .

i love my nikons.... but im always intrigued and attracted to fuji's color:)

choices.. choices.. :D

Marco_Ingco
12-09-2006, 02:03 AM
I'm also intrigued by the many testaments of people who've used S3 Pro about its colors. I just do not know how its slow fps would fare with wedding photography. There are times in a wedding where you don't need speed but there are also times when speed is an absolute necessity.

You're right... choices... choices.

The thing that doesn't appeal to me about Fuji is that you have to use yet another RAW converter to get the most out of the camera.

I know that out of cam jpegs from Fuji's are great, but it is about the same as the RAW converted jpegs from Nikon Capture.

The D200 has just dropped to $1,299. This makes it more harder to pick the S5 Pro considering the huge price difference.

i wonder how its color would differ from the S2 and the S3. i'm no guru in color management but i barely see difference from the colors of these two (my wedding was shot by jill lejano and john ong using Fuji S2 and S3). although i'm quite intrigued with the S5's film simulation mode. :) should i let go of my S2 then? :)

Aris Guerrero

just like the s3, looks like the s5 pro is DOA.

as zandy said, the 10mp d200 dropped to $1.3k, and maybe drop a little more come february - when the 6mp s5pro will debut - at $2k.

DOA.

when the s3pro came out, the price was around 130k (if i'm not mistaken), i'd suppose that's how much the s5pro would cost (thru ykl fuji)

nice thing about it was, they(YKL) were selling s2pro's at around 60k(internally) with 6mos warranty.

i do hope that its as fast as the d200, i'd love to have one myself.
