Hi Guys,

I just got this message from Western Digital. They will launch the second wave of their hard drive sale tomorrow at Photoworld Asia. All you have to do is present Issue 18 (18 only!) or your Digiprint Pro card to the booth of Axis Global Philippines to avail of the 20% discount on the hard drives. The sale will commence tomorrow and will end on February 5, 2008. No magazine or no card, no discount.

Just to let you know, the prices are cheaper than the previous sale. Enjoy and happy shopping!

hmmm, i bought from PCX a 160GB 2.5HDD for the regular price of P4.2K + P350 for the enclosure. Its still cheaper than the discounted price of WD for the 160GB.

i'm loving my 2-month old 500GB WD! so elegant, so quite. i expect to buy a 1TB WD by 4Q this year... for i'm not comfortable with DNG yet, so NEF (RAW) for now....

They didn't know jacksh1t when we were there this afternoon. Idiots at the AGT booth even told me to go to Camerahaus to inquire there because they don't sell in their booth daw.

the bigger they come, the more files you lose when they crash. i think they should have some mirroring built in or RAID. Big drives are scary for me.

Same thing happened to me yesterday, people at the booth didnt even know about the DPP discount. anyway, il try to dropby camerahaus before the 5th.

Don't bother to go to Camerahaus. They don't sell hard drives there camera lang. Bobo lang talaga yun mga tao sa booth ng AGT. They don't know anything there. They can even answer product questions there. They should hire competent people to man their booth, not people who have no knowledge of the product.

But the prices in the sale are the same or more expensive pa than the prices in V-mall. So no point in rushing din talaga.

Really?! then where can you get the HD's? is it just the same price in V-Mall? the SRP or the discounted price na?

In Greenhills kasi shops don't usually follow SRP. They sell lower. As for the models available, they're not too complete nga lang. Sometimes you have to order pa.

how is the reliability of WD hard drives? well compared to Seagate and Maxtor?

back in the early 1980s, WD was the OEM hard drive of IBM PCs ; Maxtor on the other hand was known for being aggressive with big storage - they were producing capacities of 100 meg plus while others were doing only 40 - 60 meg (yes, at that time, those were whopping storage space) ; as to Seagate, their strategy was to sell cheap since they were still starting and making a name for themself... and eventually did!

all of them have survive through the years and known for their reliability; as to which is more reliable is really hard to tell; remember, the "achilles heel" of any hard drive or disk, big or small, is just one sector - "Sector 0" ... for it contains the addresses of all your files ; if it gets damage for whatever reason, then "kapooofff" to all your files ... (will need a real computer wizard to get this fixed). Scary isn't it, that is why the "golden rule" is to always back-up our files.

I think Western Digital is one of the , if not the most dominant manufacturer of Hard Drives, heck they torture test their drives four days continuous and even hit it with a hammer every ten seconds!!!

Hi,

got a little concerned with my WD mybook 500gb, lately it doesn't start up right away when I plug the power cord in even if I leave it alone for about 5mins. I have to plug and unplug the cord several times before the HDD starts up. Any views on this? the mybook Less than a year old.

Is there a service center for Western Digital hard drives in the Philippines. I bought a 500GB Premium Edition way back when I was yet in Qatar. It just simply died on me last week. Even the light at the front just go up anymore. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

It takes a while for it to be detected. It's pretty normal. But just in case, bring it to the ATP office in Jaltan, Davao. (since you are from davao)

ATP is located in Eastwood, Libis. I'm thinking that you're base board might be the culprit.

Here's the exact location:

3 Economia St. Bagumbayan, Libis, Quezon City, Philippines

Look for Ryan Ting.

depends on your definition of big discount. so far, they've always made the prices cheaper than what is available in the market.

Went to Acenet in V-Mall and bought a 1TB My Studio for 11,300p (11,600p at DPP EB) and a 500GB My Book for 4,900p (5,300p at DPP EB, if I remember right). But since there were WD prizes at the DPP EB, ok lang. :)

Recently got a Western Digital Passport 250GB external drive for $120 including tax in Bestbuy (US). Not much difference if its only P1,000 more here (at today's exchange rate).
